  1. Hey guys. New to the forum here. I caught this bass yesterday in about 3 feet of water on the bank of one of the main lake creeks. It’s definitely my new PB, unfortunately I didn’t have a scale. Curious what y’all estimate the weight was. Do you think it was a spawning female? Water temp was about 64. Thanks for your response!
  2. Is there one size weight that will work for all sized fish for when making your own release weight
  3. What type of line and weight is best for buzzbaits on a 6:2:1 ratio reel?
  4. So, I've had a few threads on here about getting a tow vehicle for my Stratus 186VLO. I'd love to get a pickup truck but it's just not in the cards right now. I looked at minivans but the max towing capacity is 3,000-3,500lbs. I have looked at the Subaru Ascent SUV which has a max towing capacity of 5,000lbs. I was able to get my fully loaded boat and trailer weighed today. It weighed 2,960lbs. I was told that when vehicle says max towing capacity they are also including the weight of passengers and gear in the vehicle also and not just the boat and trailer. So, if my fully loaded boat and trailer weigh 2,960lbs. and I add 2 adults, say, 400lbs. that makes it 3,360lbs. for my boat, trailer, people, and gear. If the Subaru Ascent's max towing capacity is 5,000lbs. that leaves a cushion of 1,640lbs. Would this be enough of a cushion? I know that your not supposed to tow anywhere near what the max said and that how much you tow affects your vehicle's ability to drive safely. So, what is the cushion from your max weight and the vehicle's max tow weight, 1,000lbs., 2,000lbs, 4,000lbs.......what is should it be?
  5. I just moved to Central Florida for the summer, finally had the chance to go rip some lips. I caught this beautiful fish. Can you guys give me a guess on how much it weighs? I didn’t have a scale on hand sadly.
  6. Hi guys, long time reader first time poster here, After 2 years of using my hand-me-down baitcasting rod off of my grandpa, it finally kicked the bucket and snapped into 3 peices. So im in the market for a new one. However I don’t know a massive deal about which rods are “better” or which rod to use for which specific purpose. I should probably mention that I am from Australia not America so I know it’s a little bit different. But I’m sure it’s the same sort of thing I’m not stressed about importing a rod from Japan or America I just need some suggestions. I am mainly throwing small inline spinners or small soft plastics to catch Redfin - “European perch”, smaller Murray cod or silver/golden perch. I have a heavier rod already for when I’m targeting larger fish so I’m in the market for a “finesse” baitcasting rod any suggestions would be appreciated thanks a lot ? I don’t REALLY have a budget but obviously I wouldn’t be overly keen on getting something worth $800 and preferably a 2 peice for travel purposes. I’ve been searching for a week and getting sick of using my overly heavy slow action rod haha. Thanks in advance
  7. As my rod and reel arsenal grows, I’ve been looking into some specific rods for a few of my techniques. One will be strictly a lipless crankbait rod. Looking for something around 7’3”. Nothing shorter than 7’. I mostly throw 1/4oz SK RES, but I also use 1/2oz on occasion. I also like the original trap when they like a fast paced, steady retrieve and I only use the 1/2oz. I would prefer a medium heavy action bc I like the backbone for fishing grass and submerged cover, so a 1/4oz-3/4oz or 1/4oz-1oz rating seems about right. Either a moderate or moderate fast action. Just a little bit of give in the tip to avoid pulling hooks. My main concern is the weight of the rod. I’m normally making super long casts and burning it back trying to find fish and usually once I find them I just keep throwing it bc I have so much confidence in it. Needless to say, I’m looking for the lightest rod I can get away with. Thanks in advance for any opinions. Looking forward to seeing some of y’all’s recommendations.
  8. Hey so latelay I’ve been having trouble catching bass just after ice out. Some fellow members have recommended to me to try and target panfish and I might also catch some bass along the way. At this point I’ll be happy to catch anything but I’ve never rigged for panfish. Someone suggested ball head jigs and a grub trailer. My question for you guys is, what setups do you use for panfish?? How do you rig a float with a jig?? What size/kind of jigs do you use? Do you have to balance a float with a jig or does it not matter?? Do you need a float? I’ve NEVER fished specifically for panfish, so please, talk to me like I’m dumb so I get all the details lol. Thanks!
  9. Caught this guy for a tournament and didn't have my scale! I also forgot to put my ID code in for the tournament because I was so excited from catching it! How much do you think it weighs? I just started fresh water fishing recently coming from Texas and only fishing salt water. This is my personal best bass! Other than this I've only caught a few small ones. The lure in the picture is what I used on a drop shot! I caught it about three weeks ago. I've only had luck with small presentations so far, not even regular sized. Also since I'm new to this, is this a large mouth or a spotted? How can I tell the difference?
  10. My buddy caught this fish and swears up and down the she was 5 plus pounds. How much do you think this fish weighs if you could guess. I would say 3 pounds.
  11. I'm using a 3 way swivel for an average size moving river with a casting sinker...what is the minimum size sinker I'd need? I'd be catching freshwater drum, bluegill, etc...and would a bank sinker be better so it doesn't move around?
  12. Hello everybody. I'm new here, so first, thank you for accepting me into these forums. Im in need of some help/opinions. I'm hosting a bass competition and am looking for a way to score the fish with a combination of length and weight since it won't be a tournament style total of five. You enter a single fish. I'm not sure if I'm explaining that we'll enough or not. If anybody has any ideas please let me know.
  13. I am looking for good jig weight and it's all confusing me. My fishing rod takes 1/4 oz - 5/8 oz. All I need is opinions on a fitting jig. I would also like to put a trailer on it, I don't really know if a standard trailer is to heavy, but if it will effect the jig weight, please keep this in mind when suggesting a size, thanks. Tight lines!
  14. I'm going fishing in a pond in Georgia tomorrow and I'm having trouble deciding what bullet weight size to use. The deepest part of the pond is probably around 8,9,10 feet. The conditions: it should be a bit rainy/overcast but not too windy or anything and the pond isn't that big so not much current either. The bass are consistently huge too, last time I didn't Catch one under four pounds. Now that you know all that... I'll be throwing a 12 inch ribbon tail worm with a 7/0 hook and I'm trying to decide between a 1/4 or 3/8 ounce bullet weight, any suggestions? I don't think there will be many weeds.
  15. I just bought some zoom trick worms in watermelon magic on amazon and am curious what everyones experiences are fishing these along with advice on: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005Z7S28K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1 1. Where to fish them 2. How to Fish them 3. How to rig them 4. Did I choose a productive color
  16. not much experience/success dropshotting. i know you want to use the lightest weight possible.... but, i am going to Erie for a 3 day trip in a couple weeks. i'm assuming we will be in much deeper water than i am used to fishing. a question, should i pick up some 3/8oz drop shot weights? is that too heavy? right now all i have is 1/8 and 1/4 thanks...
  17. A couple days ago i caught this guy at my local lake. There are monster bluegill there from about 10-12 inches. This guy was only 11 1/2in with 12in being my PB there. However he is the thickest and heaviest bluegill i've ever caught. I've always been wondering if there was a state record in there and i honestly think there could be. I don't have a scale so i can only guess his weight. The state record is 2.95 lbs. So how much do you guys think he weighs? (I really should get a scale shouldn't I?)
  18. Wow! I can only guess what it takes to land fish like this! http://www.anglersmail.co.uk/news/world-carp-record-rises-to-105-lb-56992
  19. Hey guys, This is my personal best by far and I was furious because I didn't have my scale. I have a picture of it right next to my shoe, which is 12 inches exactly and estimate the fish to be about 22 inches long. Any guesses? Thanks C
  20. In the market for a scale to weigh the bass that I catch. I'm looking for the most accurate scale, that wont break my bank. Accurate weights are important to me because I fish tournaments. Thanks guys.
  21. Just a little curious on bass sizes on different lakes. Also let me know what lure or plastics you used
  22. I have been using lead bullet weights on my texas rigged plastics for years. Now everybody has been telling me to switch to tungsten weights I know that they are very expensive What are the advantages of tunsten?
