  1. Been out here a few times (fishing out of a modified john boat). Did pretty well the first time using a small shad swim bait fishing submerged grass in maybe 4-6 feet of water (we don't have a fish finder). Went back the next weekend and caught one dink on topwater with no bites on the swim bait. Saw a lot of kayakers going super shallow up in the creeks. Wondering if anyone has any experience here with this fishery. It seems to have some great potential but I have yet to really figure it out. Are they up super super shallow? Hiding in the grass? Or deep? Would love to hear some thoughts/opinions/advice. This is my first time posting to this forum and I'm excited to finally become a part of it after having read so much on this site. Tight lines everyone, Ben
  2. Any fisherman/ ladies interested in joining a bass fishing club in and/or around Augusta county, Virginia don’t hesitate to email me at knicelychris@gmail.com. Serious inquiries only
  3. (1) Greetings BR members! I've been looking to get after some smallies this summer on the Upper Potomac. I've had success at Riverbend Park and Goose Creek in years past, but I'm looking for spots that I can reach easier by bike from Arlington. The Ohio C&O Canal Towpath would be my route of choice to get upriver, so spots on the Maryland side are preferred (not asking for your honey holes, just general locations ideal for shore/wade fishing). I'm sort of a newbie to bass casting for SM in a river, so I may need some technical guidance and info on specific areas / structure to target. Beyond weedless tubes, it would also be helpful to get some insight as to what bait/profile/size is best for this river. (2) If anyone would like to fish with me, I've been looking for a fishing buddy! Unfortunately, I don't have a boat or consistent access to a car, but I can ride my bike a good long way to reach the fishing grounds. I can also comp for gas or other expenses. PM if interested. All advice and responses are welcome. Tight Lines!

Hello, I am looking to join a bass club In the northern virigina area. I usually fish the potomac area. Are there any local bass clubs in the area?
  5. I am buying a house off Hackney road in North Chesterfield that has a pond in the back yard. The pond is big and shared by neighbors. Does anyone know who I would contact to get information of the dos and donts and if fishing is allowed? Would like to get a little boat to use on it but have no idea yet what the rules are. Waiting on the survey to be completed. No HOA but I am assuming it is county owned. Thanks for the help.
  6. Has anyone fished Loch Lothian in Midlothian at the Midlo Mines Park? I've looked on their website and there is no mention of fishing. It's a short distance up the road from me so I was thinking of checking it out. As a bank fisherman, I'm very limited on my spots to fish at until I invest in a kayak and roof rack for the car.
  7. Hey guys, I'm looking to find some new spots to fish in the outer Richmond area. I'm in Chesterfield and have fished Swift Creek Reservoir quite a bit, but am looking to expand my horizons. Hopefully y'all can help me out with some new spots. I fish from boat and shore. All input is greatly appreciated! Thanks
  8. I’ve been living in Virginia Beach for 10 years now and I just got into fishing heavily around a year or two ago andy I am wondering if you guys know of any good spots for fishing and if you have any tips for this area! I heard a lot about good and bad lake tmore and I am very curious about this fishing area.
  9. Hey all, I'm Rob and I live southwest of Richmond, Virginia. We recently bought property on a 1,700 acre lowland reservoir so I've been reading a lot here for a couple of months and found a lot of great info about fishing during the spawn. Looking forward to reading more and finally being able to participate.
  10. Hey there guys, I joined back in 2015 but never introduced myself or even replied to any posts. I am a fisherman out of the Richmond, Va area. I focus on fishing for bass and for every species on the James river. I have been fishing since I was very young, mostly surf fishing in the outer banks and Carolina beaches for red drum, flounder, etc... Moved to Florida when I was a teenager and we had a great pond in our neighborhood that got me into bass fishing. I can recall fishing there daily with worms, lizards, pretty much anything that was included in the box of artificals. We pulled out some great bass from there and some huge catfish as well. Moved back to NC and did some brackish water fishing with bait for awhile. Then finally, I moved to Richmond at the age of 20. I started fishing again around age 21 and have been hooked since. Get it? Anyway I love this forum and will try and post some pictures of some great catches and info I have acquired by fishing around the Richmond area. I also do a lot of Kayak fishing. I hope this post reaches the Virginia forums, and if anyone ever wants to do some urban angling message me!
  11. Has anyone fished the Annual Bass Fishing Tournament to Benefit the Children's Hospital Foundation on the James River before? This year it is on June 2nd and I am thinking about fishing it. If anyone has fished it before let me know. I would like to know what it's like and how many boats are usually in it. Thinking about taking my dad as my partner for his first tournament. Thanks!
  12. Hey all, Weather in Virginia has been all over. Has been hard to tell how far along the bass are as far as the pre-spawn goes. In my estimation, many fish are still holding to winter patterns, no? Anyway, from what you all have seen would y'all say we are closer to the beginning or the end of the pre-spawn? Thanks and cheers!
  13. What’s good? I’m new up in here. And I like to fish like y’all. Virginia bred. We got some good holes.
  14. Has anyone stopped to fish the tye river? Made a trip out to where it crosses the 29 and found some of the greatest smallmouth holes in Va. caught 60 in 2 hours with 6 fish larger than 16 inches. Just wanted to see if this river is worth investigating a little more or simply a lucky hole or day.
  15. New to the Washington DC area, college student from Fairmont WV interning in DC for the summer. Looking to do some bass fishing and was wondering if anyone was familiar with the area and would want to do some fishing. I don't have a car so would have to uber.. Should be interesting with all of my fishing gear lol. Cant go this summer without wetting a line. Let me know if you're interested in doing some largemouth or smallmouth fishing in the DC area. If you have instagram feel free to check out my fishing page @1340anglers
  16. I'm heading to Moomaw for the first time on Friday. I've read the historical posts about this lake, but they're from a while ago. Anyone been there lately and know recent water temps, whether spawn is over, etc.? I haven't found info on whether or which boat ramps ever close or have fees to use them. Does anyone know or have a preferred ramp? I might want to look for smallmouth, since I don't usually get to target them. I've read that the smallmouth fishing up the north end creek arm can be good. Can anyone confirm good smallmouth spots? I'd also welcome any tips on good spots for largemouth, although if they're still spawning or recently post-spawn, I assume they'll be on or near the flats around the mid-lake islands or what look like flats near shore to the north and west of those islands? Thanks for any tips!
  17. Hello all, I am new here but any help that could be given to me would be greatly appreciated. I am a James River local and have a tournament next weekend on Smith Mountain out of Parkway Marina. I went to the lake on Friday and it was not easy. It was beautiful, but i tried fishing some long points and nothing was going on so I switched to what i know best, skipping and flipping docks and shallow wood. We could not find a pattern to save our lives. If anyone has any pointers or locations to catch them I could really use it. And I am no opposed to making decent run. Thank you for your time and help!
  18. Hey All, I moved from northern CA to the DMV about a year and a half ago. I've fished for years all over northern california, but have yet to fish on the east coast. I've got a good all-purpose smallmouth pole (the rest of my poles will be coming this summer), and I'm looking to get into some good fishing. I do not have a boat, canoe, float tube, pontoon, or any type of fishing / floating device. So I'm limited to shore fishing and/or boat/kayak rentals. I'd love any tips on spots to get into later this spring. I'd appreciate any and all responses! Thank you!!
  19. Hello, my name is Kendal. I've been fishing most of my life but have really picked up and become more serious. My dad has been a bass fisherman for as long as I can remember and I guess it rubbed off. I am also a female, so I am quite the minority. I work at GreenTop in Hanover and I love it there it is such an amazing place. I'm still just trying to find my place and I guess I do bank fishing the most since I can't afford a boat. I do have a kayak I've been out on the James river and caught some nice fish. I've also fished an old golf course private pond which is really awesome but the hike is rough. Hoping to learn a lot of info now that I will be able to read all of this information! Kendal
  20. Hello all, I've been out to Lake Orange 4 separate times, 3 fishing from the bank, and the 4th I took my boat out. All 4 times i've goose egg'd. Everyone I talk to before leaving usually says they have trouble catching fish there too. Is it just bad luck, or are the fish just not biting? I've tried everything except live bait. I've tried everything from finesse fishing to carolina rigging and everything in between.
  21. Does anyone have any experience smallmouth fishing around Bell Isle? I feel like it would be pretty good I remember there being some decent size holes to the left of the foot bridge as you are walking to the island and I have seen some large fish over towards the walkway to Browns Island as well as in the Canal there. Whether they were largemouth or smallmouth I'm not sure.
  22. I am looking to get a nice bass. I have only caught one little one all year. I am new to bass fishing. I live in Suffolk, VA. I have been to Lake Prince, Lake Cohoon, and Western Branch Reservoir. I want to use my time wisely. Any thoughts on a good spot to fish and which lake. Thanks in advance.
  23. I was wondering what some of the best ways to catch bass at Lake Anna in Virginia (cold side) are and what baits/lures are the best?
  24. Hello, My name is Tim Clarke and I am posting this topic in hopes that I could join someone on their bass boat in the Northern Virginia, Maryland, and/or Washington DC areas this upcoming Summer. I don't have my own bass boat yet and usually rent jon boats at the local marinas that allow. If anyone has an open seat and wouldn't mind some company on the water, please message or email me at tsclarke30@gmail.com I'm pretty knowledgeable for a 26 year old and am eager to learn as much as possible. I'm willing to help with expense cost or any other requirements. Thanks! Tim Clarke
  25. Hello all! I am new member from the Richmond, VA area (Midlothian to be exact). I have fished on and off for the past few years, but have recently fallen back in love with it. I'm 26 years old and work from home in the I.T. field. Needless to say, I enjoy the flexibility of being able to fish when my schedule is clear for the day! I don't own or a boat or kayak (though I do plan to buy a kayak soon) so I am limited to bank fishing. I look forward to meeting and fishing with others from the area! P.S. for those with boats in the area, I will exchange beer and gas money for trips out to fish with you! I've found that some of the best fishing is done by boat in the area.
