  1. Hey all. I have a 8.5' SOT Lifetime Hydros 85 Angler which has two flush mounts behind the seat and one deck mount between my legs (only adjust up and down). I want to do some trolling with maybe a spinner or crawler rig when kayaking to different spots. I've always assumed that the flush mounts were more for rod storage, so I bought a Scotty track mount holder to put either in front of or behind my seat (see pic). However, now I'm reading that a lot of people DO troll from their flush mounts (I thought the rod tip would be too high). So I have two questions for you all: 1) Should I just use the flush mount holders to troll? 2) If no, where should I mount the deck mount holder so that I don't hit it with the paddle? In front of the seat or behind (see pic)? There is barely any kayak for the mount to grab onto in front of the seat though, so part of the track would be in the air (it's all cut out there for footrests). Thanks!
  2. I have recently bought a 10ft plastic boat. I got it for extremely cheap and when I got home I discovered duct tape on the front. The hole is very small and seems possible to fix but I have no experience in this topic. I attached a photo of the damage. What would be my best bet in fixing this if it’s possible. I have some marine hoop laying around and have also gotten advice to bondo it.. would either of these work or is there something else to try? Any help would be appreciated, thanks
  3. Hello everyone, I'm a first time boat owner and I have to buy a new trolling motor for my boat. Is it possible to buy a trolling motor with the "Spot Lock" ability without having to dump another $3 grand on an Ultrex? The company/ brand isn't that important to me... I just want to know what kind of trolling motor models are out there that can do the spot lock thing, and those that are perhaps cheaper (ie Motor Guide). I know the Ultrex does, Im pretty sure theres a "power drive 2" from minn kota does as well but that also seems top of the line... What about a Fortrex? Can a minn kota edge do spot lock? Thanks for clarifying
  4. I got one of these kayaks about a month ago and I love it. Does anyone use a rod holder that fits in the rail assemblies left and right of the deck? I'm sure it can be done but I don't want to order two by trial and error. Can you recommend one? I'd be using it for crappie "trolling" or tightlining jigs. Thanks in advance.
  5. I am getting an inflatable boat (an Intex Mariner 4 to be exact) because I need something that's portable and will fit in my car. So I was looking for a trolling motor to go with it and I happened upon these https://www.walmart.com/ip/Costway-New-55lbs-Freshwater-Transom-Mounted-Trolling-Motor-36-Shaft/161810241 and https://www.walmart.com/ip/Costway-New-46lbs-Freshwater-Transom-Mounted-Trolling-Motor-36-Shaft/140915089 According to some research the brand is Apontus. Anyone have any experience with this brand (or know who manufactures it)? Also, if you're in the Fort Worth area, would a 2 or 3 blade prop be better for the lakes around here? Thanks in advance.
  6. I'm 19 and been fishing most of my life but am now wanting to get into specifically bass fishing. I have a 12 ft Jon boat and have been trying to fish with a 35 lb trust minn Kota trolling motor. My problem is even on the lowest Speed I'm going too fast to fish the shore line really and I am constantly adjusting the motor direction so I can't even get a complete cast in. One last thing if I turn off the motor the wind or something just spins my boat around and pushes me to the bank pretty fast. Any tips or something on how to fix this.
  7. Hello. Today I purchased a 10 foot Jon Boat for 75$. It came with a Minn Kota Endura 36 trolling motor and a 10-15 pound anchor. I have several questions. 1. will 36 pounds be enough to propel this boat(converted into a bass boat) and me (I weigh 140 pounds)? 2. Will a transom mount work on a level deck, if so how? 3. Is the anchor enough weight for small current? 4. Front or back for motor? THANKS A LOT!
  8. I am going to be fishing in a rowboat with my girlfriend and the lake we are fishing is known for good hybrid striped bass fishing. I want to fish them when we take a break. I can row the boat while she relaxes and still have lines in the water to possibly catch a great fish. Lake Shabbona, IL. I have the appropriate rods/reels/line just need to know how I rig the live shad up so it is in the strike zone. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!
  9. Heyo I just got a new trolling motor and have a quick question about the wires on the unit. My battery is in the rear of my boat for my lights, depth finder, and transom mounted trolling motor. My new motor is a bow mount and I have 2 choices. One: I could splice the wires and extend them to reach the rear of my boat. Two: I could move my battery up to the front of the boat and my depth finder's wires should be long enough to reach it. The choice I PREFER is to splice and extend the positive and negative wires from the unit to reach the end of my boat... The biggest reason I'm asking about this is because I was wondering if extending the positive and negative would make the unit lose power. It would be about 13-14 feet from the unit to the battery. That seems like a lot of wire for the power to travel through. Do I run the risk of under-powering the unit or any other risk that could devastate my battery or the unit by using wires that long? If you'd like to see a picture of the motor housing and the wires in question, you can go to my album "My First Boat" they're all in there.
