  1. On the water at 6:45 and off around 7:45. Stained water and I have no idea what the temp was, Humminbird strikes again. Sunny day with a few clouds in the sky. Rained all the way from Shreveport but stopped raining once I made it to the launch. Sprinkled a few times while on the lake as a cloud blew bye but mostly sunny. Ambient temp from high 60s to low 80s. Fished coves where all the fish were caught. Looked for underwater points, creek bed, ditches and humps near the coves but saw no fish. Also did some Auto Mapping for future reference. Threw soft plastic, crankbaits, jigs and carolina rigs. Fished banks with soft plastic and the deeper water with everything else. Caught 7 bass, 1 catfish and 1 turtle. The bass and turtle on plastic in 3 - 5 fow and catfish on crankbait somewhere between 5 - 10 fow. Set new PB with a 6-4. Woo hoo! Finally caught a Toledo Bend pig. Still looking for that hog.

  3. For deep cranking (5XDs-10XDs), do you prefer a med-hvy, hvy or x-hvy as well as mod, mod fast or fast tip?
  4. ://www.bassmaster.com/slideshow Slide 16 is a familiar face. Good luck to you @everythingthatswims Dang it link didn't work. Can someone please post a link that works, admittedly I'm an idiot! Lol
  5. I'm so excited! Going on my first real fishing trip in the morning. Toledo Bend is our destination. I'll be accompanied by my ex brother-in-law(my niece's dad) and my niece's husband. I've never been to Toledo Bend and really looking forward to being out there on it doing my best to catch some largemouth bass. Definitely gonna have to read up on the thread here about learning it and hopefully that will help in locations to fish for a potentially plentiful day. We will be in a fishing/ski boat so that should help the possibilities even more. I've heard such great things about Toledo Bend and can't wait to experience it first hand. I'll be heading there around 6:15am and will be in total confidence/positive mode that what I have learned from here and the books I have read along with my limited experience bass fishing will play a major role in a new PB. Gonna try some of the techniques I read about from Carl "Bud" Andrews to see if I can recreate a small portion of what he has accomplished in Inverness, Florida alot closer to home. Thank You Lord Jesus for this great opportunity!
  6. Thinking about taking Thursday and Friday off and heading out for some fishing. Question is, will the weather be considered stabilized? Read somewhere on here that stable weather equals 3 days of the same weather, or something like that. I figure after the cold front that came through this weekend that the 3rd day of 70+ degree temps the fishing should be good for this time of year. So, will the weather be stabilized by 1/12/17 and continue through the weekend?
  7. Nada, nothing, not a thing. Launched at Oak Ridge around 10:30am and recovered and on the road by 4:45pm. Tried jigs, drop shot, rat-l-trap, weightless soft plastic. Black and blue, smokey shad and Watermelon Red. Different depths from shoreline to 30'. Really worked over the drop offs where most the fish were holding (according to my fish finder), worked it shallow to deep then deep to shallow. Looked like most the fish were in the 10' - 15' area. Surface water was 50 to 53 degrees and saw stained and muddy water. Light breeze from the South. All in all a good day of fishing. Next time I geaux though, I wanna deaux some catching! Haven't caught a fish on The Bend in over 2 decades! Must not be holding my tongue right.
  8. After retiring from the AF 5 years ago I moved to NW Louisiana and met a great guy who got me into bass fishing. I grew up on Lake Erie fishing for yellow perch and walleye so bass was kind of foreign to me. I'm totally into it now. Living near so many world-class pieces of water has definitely helped. I spend most of my time on Lake Bistineau fishing stumps and creek channels when the giant salvinia allows it. I've made several trips down to Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn as well. The Red River didn't get much attention from me this season because of the spring floods. Maybe I'll hit it up this fall/winter. I'm a voracious reader and will read everything I can. I've already used some of the information I've gleaned from this page out on the water (drop shotting grass lines on Sam Rayburn was awesome and productive). Cheers, Tony B
