  1. Hello, I was simply curious about the specific differences between these two P5 rods. I'm trying to decide between the two as my jig and Texas-rigged soft plastics. For anyone who has it, what would you say is the ACTUAL lure weight range in which each of these rods excels (if you could please say the total weight, i.e., jig + trailer, etc...). I am also planning to purchase a P5 Bait Finesse and a P5 Windbuster, so the baits that this can cover may also have to be taken into account. I plan on using the BF for all around finesse plastics and finesse jigs, the WB for drop-shot/free rig/small jerks and small cranks/light topwater, and the TS or X-Bites for jigs/Texas-rig soft plastics. I will say that I plan on fishing cover, shallow water, docks (skipping*** and pitching***). Lastly, I do everything other than punching, throwing large swimbaits or glide baits, and heavy top-water (mainly finesse plastics, fb/compact/finesse jigs and other bottom-contact like drop-shot and T-rig). Will these 3 rods cover all those techniques? Thank you in advance, I apologize for asking so many questions. I tried to be as concise as possible, but I have been looking for answers to these questions without much success.
  2. Hi guys, my curado 200i just broke so I'm in need for a new reel. So far, I have a: topwater/jerkbait/weightless plastic rod (6'8 M/F St-croix bassX) paired with a daiwa tatula 100 frog/punching/swimbait rod (7'10 H/F St-croix bassX) paired with a daiwa tatula 200 and my jig/chatterbait/texas rig (7'1 MH/F st-croix mojobass) which used to be paired with a curado 200i I already looked up on Daiwa website and the Elite, Elite P/F, Tatula 150 as well as their tatula sv tws all look interesting but can't figure out which one would be more appropriate for the use. I really like Daiwa's breaking system but I'm still open to suggestions.
  3. Hey BR, Sharing a little trick that can help you save some money when rigging soft plastic baits. Thanks, James N
  4. Does anyone have a specific hook size and brand for wacky rig without weed guard and texas rig hook that i can get a lifetime supply off
  5. What is everyone’s take on using bass jigs or creature baits with casting or spinning set ups? I know casting typically reels faster but what advantages/disadvantages do you see with both type of setups? Im setting up both using braided line with leader. #2 question is I understand the advantages of a fluorocarbon leader, but why not a mono leader with mist green line?
  6. Hi all was about to buy my first set of tungsten bullet weights and saw the reaction tackle weights on amazon and they seemed like a good deal. Does anyone have any experience with these or can offer any suggestions on good bullet weights? mainly fishing retention ponds in Florida. Would tungsten be the right choice or should I stick with lead? Thanks, Steve Reaction Tackle Bullet Weights 3/16 Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MF9M4FO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_mkDgEbXV6S10H
  7. Hello everyone! I am trying to find a good Texas Rig/jig rod for under $100. Also, I would maybe buy a reel if it convinces me (also under $100). I would use it for open water casting, dragging football jigs, and other basic jig and Texas rig applications (no flipping and pitching). Thanks for the suggestions!
  8. which catches more fish, a weightless t rigged senko or a texas rigged ribbon tail worm?
  9. Looking at the 7’1 MH X-Fast Kistler Helium 3 and the ALX Zolo Deputy for Jigs and T-Rigs. Fishing open water and relatively light cover, 3/16 oz t-rigs and 3/8 oz and 1/2 jigs. I know people like a heavier rod for 1/2 jigs, but I’m looking to be able to throw 3/8 oz and 1/2 oz in the same rod. The He3 is on sale for $221 right now while I would probably get a custom Deputy (change colors and grips) for around 240-250.
  10. I'm currently using a 7'2" MH Zodias as my jig/worm rod. I live the feel of it, but I've noticed it isn't as sensitive as I would like for bottom contact lures. I think it would serve better elsewhere. I'm looking for a rod to use strictly for jigs and worms. I'm really looking at ALX, Tatula Elite, and iRod. My budget is $200. A little more or little less doesn't matter. I'm waiting for Black Friday before ordering anyways.
  11. So I was fishing a texas rigged trick worm today and every few casts, I would feel a little thump, or it would stop moving or something, but when I set the hook, there was nothing there. I assume it was just getting stuck on the bottom, so does anybody know how to differentiate bites from snags/rocks/wood/etc. Thanks!
  12. I usually throw my T-rig on straight 30# braid, but my areas have been getting quite a bit of pressure so I’ve decided to add a “finesse” T-rig setup to my arsenal. I have a 7’ M-F with a Daiwa Tatula 100 7.3:1. Weightless Senkos (sometimes with 1/8oz or 3/16oz bullet weight), trick and finesse worms with 1/8-1/4oz weight, and a 1/4oz craw or creature style bait. I’ve tried 15# and currently have 12# on, but should I be using something a little lighter?
  13. Hey guys! I was wondering which lake or pond have good vegatation and lining of lily pads. I’m planing on punching them with a bunch of soft plastics over the summer.
  14. Hey all, I really like the look and functionality of a punching rig but honestly think it just takes too many steps and pieces to put together. I am looking to purchase a pre-made punching rig with this kind of setup, from the top to bottom of the lure: ~3/4oz Weighted Head w/ line eye connected to a Jig skirt connected to a Swivel or ring connected to an EWG worm hook If they sold these pre-made it would just be one knot, texas-rig up your soft plastic, and start punching. I know this setup somewhat resembles a jig but in this setup the hook is an EWG worm hook so there is no exposed hook. Also, because of the swivel, the hook is free to wiggle around instead of being firmly attached to the weight head. You may think I'm being lazy but I usually kayak fish with 2 rods and have to tie-on lures often due to limited rod space. Tying on a jig takes no time compared to a punch rig for me, but I like the weedless-ness and wiggly-ness of a punch rig more. Does this type of a lure exist? Thanks!
  15. Hi all, I'm looking for swimbaits with a belly slot for texas rigging. In the past, I have used Zoom's Swimming Fluke, but I am interested in finding out about others. I want to be able to Texas rig swimbaits so that I can throw it into rip raps without having to worry about snagging them often. I personally wouldn't Texas rig full body swimbaits because it has too much plastic for the hooks to go through, and I believe it lowers the hook up ratio. I'm looking for the 5" (and up to 7") sizes specifically. I'm also don't want a skinny swimbait like the Keitechs. I want a full bodied swimbait similar to the profile of a Big Hammer swimbait but one that has a belly slot. My friend showed me some P-Line Kick'r Minnows he bought, and they looked great. I see a lot of swimbaits in the market and have tried filtering them on sites to find the ones that have a split belly to no avail. There is no feature to filter out swimbaits that have a split belly, and the descriptions don't always say they have them even when they actually do. One more thing, I'm looking for a decent quality swimbait, but at the same time, has a reasonable cost. Cost is actually more of a factor in this case because I will be throwing these lures into some snaggy shorelines parallel to rockwalls and expect to lose lures. So the cheaper the better. I'm all ears to hear your guy's recommendations!
  16. I bought some Shakey heads and some bullet weights at the tackle shop because I was low on both items. Then I questioned. What is the difference of the both besides the look?
  17. im so angry right now. I usually don't get mad when i lose lures or have to break my line but this was it. I have yet to be able to fish from any location off the banks without my lure getting hung under a rock or something in the water. It doesn't matter what I fish with if it is not rigged weightless it gets hung. what am i doing wrong? anything? if i add a small 1/8 oz weight to be able to cast further it still happens. i think these things hate me. rigged up a carolina rig and a texas rig last night with a swivel and within 1 hour this morning they both got hung on rocks in the water. no matter the area they always seem to find that one rock and craw in it.. im not talking about right on the bank where the water stops i usually pull over that when it comes back in.. im talking about anywhere in the water that i cant get to at least 5ft away from the bank. I was so scared one day i tied on a bass jig and put a dang float on my line so it wouldnt reach the bottom (ha!)
  18. Today I was out fishing with a buddy and came across a new spot I have never been to before. It was tough to get to because it was so grown over but it was worth it. It was my first time trying out a new senko Texas rigged while my friend used a jitterbait and a popper. All together we scored three smallmouth bass. Any tips for using plastic worms? I'm relatively new to it. Thanks!
  19. What's your opinions on the perfect Texas rig rod for spot pitching into shallow cover? Length, power action, guides etc. When I say shallow cover not talking about mats or anything you need a punching rod for.. I'm talking 6 foot or less on shore line trees, cypress knees, lay downs etc. where you pitch to a specific target with Texas rigs??!!?? up to you to name the brand rod you use or not
  20. So whenever I Texas Rig my senko I use a Gamakatsu EWG worm hook. But recently I have been wacky rigging with o-rings and I was wondering if there is a difference between using a wacky hook such as the owner wacky rig hook or if the EWG hook I am using is fine. As of right now I'm still catching a lot of bass on the EWG hook wacky rigger. It does look a little odd and big but it hasn't been failing me. Is there a specific reason to use the wacky hooks when wacky rigging? Like does using a EWG hook affect the action as compared to a wacky hook. And also is there a difference in using weedless vs non-weedless because I have heard that weedless hooks don't help much anyway.
  21. Hi all, Hopefully everyone's summer has been full of fishing excursions. I've been doing decently well this summer. Hopefully this post is in the right area. BUT I've run into a problem I can't quite solve. I've recently started fishing a new lake that has some great bass fishing. The water is very clear for my area, it's very weedy, and I fish from shore. The lake is has a lot of pressure and I've found they really response to T rigged creature baits dragged and hopped along the bottom. They destroy them. The lake has a steep drop off from about 1-5 feet deep for about 20-30 feet then down to 12-20 feet from 10 yards out. I'm using a 3/8ths ounce tungsten weight to get the bait to the bottom. The problem is i'm getting hung up on serious weeds about 50% of the time and not able to present the bait right. It's limiting my chances to catch fish as I need to drag the bait out, pull the weeds off, and cast back out. I'm not new to weighted t rigs, but i'm new to this type of weed density, and the fish being so deep in the forest. Is there any tips to help out from the members out there? I'm not pegging the weight, I thought that would make it worse (maybe i'm wrong). I'm certain i'm hooking the bait correctly as the eye of the hook is buried into the bait (3/0 EWG hook), small tag end, concealed hook point. Is this just the way of the world? Am I missing something? They don't seem to respond quite as well to more compact, slim baits like worms or tubes. Any help/advice is appreciated!
  22. What is the best Texas rig bait for the Midwest
  23. let's say you were inclined to fish a texas rigged plastic with a pegged weight. what are the pros/cons of just using a hook with a pegged weight, vs a naked jig head?
  24. Hello, =If a double Post, I apologize; pc acting up again " I do small Pond fishing here in Mass. Would like to try the Texas Rig, which I haven't ever. Two questions, please: a. I assume that the use of the slip sinker, besides getting the worm to the bottom, is to allow a fish to take the worm without actually feeling the weight of the sinker. True ? b. Pond depth is about 8 or 9 feet, max. What would be a good length of line to allow the sinker to slip thru; e.g. from the hook to the knot that would prevent further movement of the sinker up the line ? Is 1 foot adequate for 8 or 8 foot depth fishing ? Thanks, Bob
