  1. So the story starts when I wanted to use my dobyns Mag Swimbait 807 rod for my larger swimbaits such dips 250 or mothers or hinkle trout because I dont want to have multiple swimbait rod in my truck all the time. It was rated for 3oz to 10oz which it was ok for what I had in mind and I could leave my big rods at home, BUT when I try to cast the hinkle I saw that it bends the rod more than normal just holding it, And it was horrible for casting and the hinkle is 9,6oz so still below the rated recommendation, Anyways I want to tell you guys the rod is awesome and so light but it is only good for lures about 6 to 7oz such dips 250, And it cant handle big 9 or 10 oz at all.
  2. Ok here I have it finally, This is my replacement for my 908.Going to open it and send update pictures.
  3. Hi all, in the market for a budget small swimbait rod to be used mainly for treble hook lures but also for some smaller jig style hook lures. Will likely be pairing with a Cardiff 300a and 20lb YZH Any suggestions for a rod? I tried searching the forum and the consensus seems to be Okuma Guide Selects and Irod Genesis rods but trying to see what else is being used/recommended.
  4. I have used .5-1 oz Swimbaits on my frog rod, but I am looking at purchasing a dedicated Swimbait combo. I am thinking about the Irod Genesis 2 783 sb and the Daiwa Tatula 200 with 17lb cxx. I will mostly be throwing 1-3 ounce baits. Any thoughts?
  5. Hello, I've been thinking about adding a swimbait rod/reel to my arsenal. I'm thinking of going with a Cardiff 301 and a mojo bass 7'10HF. I've been researching this a bit and I'm pretty set at the moment with these choices, but I'm still open to advice/suggestions. The Cardiff, I feel, is a layup for me. I'm a Shimano guy. From what I've read the guts are the same as the Calcutta and after holding a 400 vs a 300 in my hand I can tell I'll feel much more comfortable with the 300 size. As for the rod I first researched which baits I wanted to throw. I'm not planning on throwing any baits over 6", so all of them ranged between 1.5-2.5oz, which I think would be perfect for a rod rated 1-4oz. The second piece of criteria it had to meet is it has to have split grips. I need this because I fish from a kayak and I like to leash my rod around the blank so the butt of the rod prevents the leash from slipping off. One thing I'm not 100% sure of is line. Being that I'll be throwing lighter (1.5-2.5oz) baits would you all think I could get away with using 65# braid with a 20# mono leader without much a risk of snapping in the event of a backlash? I'll be throwing soft bodied baits exclusively at the start (namely weedless hudd 68's and hudd gills). Later I may expand this to swavers, 6" gantarel and 6" bbz. Please let me know what you think. Thanks.
  6. I have already posted about the iROD Genesis II Fred's Magic Stick asking about if it would be a good finesse swimbait rod and have gotten some good responses. I just saw on TW that they have a new line of value driven rods called the Fiber Series. I was curious if the 7'5" Heavy model is pretty much the same blank as Fred's Magic Stick just with cheaper components. If this is the case, I will be picking up this model instead of Fred's Magic Stick. Does anyone have any input or experience with the Fiber Series line of rods? Thanks.
  7. Looking to buy a new rod for swimbaits in the 5-8" range weighing anywhere from 1.5oz-4oz and already have a shimano calcutta reel to pair with. I'm looking at a couple of rods right now on TW thinking about buying them on the 20% off promo they have right now. Rod #1 is Genesis II Cast Rod 7'8" Jr. Swimbait and Rod #2 is TFO Gary Loomis Tactical Swimbait Casting Rod 7'11 MagH. Both of these rods are identical in price and have nearly identical features, they both have a limited lifetime warranty. So my question is simple, which one would you lean towards, actual experience with either rod would be useful! Thank you!
