  1. Hey Bass Resource, If I could only have 5 baits to fish with these are the 5 Must Have Baits in my boat! Hope you all like it! James Niggemeyer
  2. I've been bass fishing for the past 4 years and only fish smaller lakes and ponds from the bank. I've always wanted to throw big swimbaits but didn't really know if it was worth it or where to start.
  3. I enjoy fishing swimbaits and a couple of lakes I fish are perfect for this technique. The problem is there aren't a lot of heavy jigheads that have a small enough hook to rig a smaller swimbait (around 3" long). I have been thinking about getting into jig making and have been looking into my jighead options. Are there any 1/2 oz to 3/4 oz jighead molds that will allow for a shorter shank hook to rig smaller swimbaits? A lot of these molds recommend certain hooks and hook sizes. What would happen if I use a smaller hook sizes than what's recommended?
  4. I want to start taking up throwing swimbaits more regularly and I know by doing this I'll need the right rod. I'll mainly be throwing hard baits. For example I'll use the S waver both in the 200 and 168 size (3 1/2oz and 1 5/8oz), the Jackall Gantarel (2.5 oz), Spro BBZ-1 6" floating model (2oz) and I'll be trying the new Lucky Craft Real Ayu 178 (2 1/16oz). I think I have the right idea for a rod setup, but I wanted to make sure with the people on here that have much more experience using baits like these if they could help! Rod: I am thinking either the Okuma Citrix or the Guide Select Series Big Bait from Okuma as well. I was thinking the 7'11" in the Heavy power would be best (rated 1-6oz) since I don't plan on using anything over 6oz anytime soon. I'm leaning towards getting the Citrix, but it has a handle length of 18.5in compare to 24in on the Guide Select Series. I'm not sure if the handle length would make a huge difference when casting heavy baits so I would like some insight if the handle length would be a factor in what I should get. Reel: I am almost dead set on getting a Shimano Cardiff in the 300 size. It has a 5.8:1 Gear Ratio and brings in about 24inches per turn. I think this would be a good all around gear ratio for what I'm using because I tend to reel too fast anyways so this might have me slow it down more. If I were to need to use a faster reel, let me know. If I go faster I was thinking of the Lew BB2 wide spool in the 6.4:1 which brings in about 28" per turn. Line: Here is where I have the biggest question. I was thinking of going with 20lb P-line CXX, but with fishing in WI we have pike and Muskie and I was wondering if they could bite off some of my baits with that line. I have used my Flipping Rod with 65lb braid and a 15lb mono leader and I had lost a S waver 168 on a cast off so that kinda turns me away from using braid with swimbaits now. Also with the floating swimbaits like the BBZ I was wondering if the CXX would work for that too. Thanks in advance for all your input guys! I'm really looking forward to trying this out and catching some bigger fish if I can!
  5. Hello BR, I've been trapped inside for over two weeks now wishing I could go fishing but, since I am still 14 and my parents don't want me to leave home under any circumstance I am stuck here. I have been spending my time on Amazon looking at fishing rods and lures, that are wayyyy to expensive for me to buy. I've seen multiple budget rods and reel by this company called KastKing, I have see there products on YouTube and they seem to be some great budget rods and reels. Has anybody had good experience with this company? I've been wanting to buy a KastKing Royale Select Fishing Rod, Casting Rod 7ft 6in-Extra Heavy - Fast-1pc which is only $60 with a coupon, paired with a KastKing Royale Legend II Baitcasting Reel, Gear Ratio 7.2:1, Left Handed Fishing Reel ($40). And some (a bit excessive) 80lb P-Line TCB Braid, which I got on sale for only $5!! For big swimbaits and hopefully pike and muskie. I've also been looking at the ABU GARCIA® MAXTORO COMBO 7'6" Heavy. For only $210 which hopefully I will get for my birthday in two months. (I also have been thinking of buying a ton of lures from Ali-Express) Has anybody tried any of these Rods & Reels? Does anybody have a recommendation for a Budget Combo? Any help is greatly appreciated, Martin Sierra
  6. Hey BR, Here is part 2 of the January fishing trip with Lou from Beyond the Bounds. Fun day and caught bass we believe we’re on beds in January. Thanks for watching! JN
  7. Im looking for any opinions on some rods. Im looking to get a new jerkbait, swimbait and jig rod. I need something that can handle jerkbaits that range from 5/16- 1/2oz with depth ranges of 4ft-15ft. Preferably something that is from 6’8”-6’10” and mh. The swimbait rod has to be able to handle swimbaits up to 7oz. And the jig rod i would need it to handle jigs that with a trailer weigh around 7/10 of an oz. I want something that has excellent sensitivity but also good backbone and 7’6”+ is what ive been comfortable with before thanks for the help
  8. So, I've been getting into fishing big swimbaits for the biggest bass in the lake, and I've been somewhat successful so far. I've caught A handful of nice fish from 5-7lbs on various glide baits so far. I have 8 inch hudds, I have a 9 inch slammer, I have lunker punkers, bull shads, a triple trout, Deps 250, Gantarel (none of which I've caught a fish on yet) and some of the other more popular big swimbaits on the market, and I'm looking to add the next glide bait to the lineup. My favorite big swimbaits so far are glide baits and multi jointed hard baits, so if anyone has any suggestions in those two categories, feel free to share, but for those of you who have tried them, which would be the better buy between the Roman Made Negotiator, and the Megabass I-Slide 262? I've been eyeing both for awhile, but I want to hear from guys who have actually fished these lures before pulling the trigger on another $100+ glide. Is the negotiator worth the extra money over the I-slide? Also, if anyone has tried the ABT suicide glide, how does it compare to the Megabass?
  9. Ok, this may not be big to some of you but i have a question about the 5.5" beekley havoc swimmer that was designed by skeet reese. I can't find anything on what hook to use. I am guessing a 6/0. Too big? And why are weedless hooks so light! Someone needs to custom make a 1/2oz 5 or 6/0 ewg with an owner centering pin!?
  10. I just finished my attempt to create a dying gizzard shad. Any opinions or tips for me? Just curious what would be the most you guys would be willing to spend on a bait like this one?
  11. Hey everyone, so my go-to is the Yum Dinger/Yum Finesse Worm (Wacky, Neko, Carolina in Green Pumpkin, Watermelon Red Flake, June Bug). This spring I want to start expanding more and using Arkie Jigs. Does anyone have any recommendation on their favorite brand and color, trailer (craws/grubs/paddletails) combinations for the different seasons? Which works best for you? Also, how do you normally retrieve such jigs with the specific combinations? Again, I am just looking to expand and perfect my arsenal one at a time. Any help would be amazing I also use Crankbaits (Berkely Pitbull 5.5 Squarebill), Buzz Baits (Booyah 3/8 top water) and Swimbaits (Powerbait 4" Rib Shads ) but for some reason or another unsuccessful using them. I will save that for another thread lol.
  12. I just wanted to post a few lures I made that have produced fish for me in the last few weeks. The tail on the green crankbait gives it very unique action I have found.
  13. Recently I found my hooks and split rings on my s-waver 200 had a little rust on them, I’ve been wanting to upgrade the hardware anyway so what sizes and model should I use?
  14. Personally, I've never fished with a lure worth more than 20 bucks. I wouldn't even think of buying a lure if it crosses the $30 mark. I have combos that are cheaper than some swimbaits out there. Is there even any point to buying such an expensive lure? I mean, bass don't really care if your lure is worth 10 dollars or 200 dollars. How much better will an action get on a 200 dollar swimbait than a regular 20 dollar swimbait? Not to mention, just the fear of losing that lure will drive me nuts, to the point of me never even using it when I'm out on the water. It's like buying a supercar just to park it in your garage.
  15. I found a Huddleston lure while fishing recently. It's I great condition except that the hook is rusty. Can the top hook be replaced? If so, what hook should I get and how works I install it? Joe
  16. Hey everbody, this question is directed to new Hampshire swimbait fishermen. I'm getting into swimbaits and I'm looking for a swimbait specific rod, I keep going back and forth between dobyns fury 795 sb 1-5 oz and fury 806 sb 2-8 oz. I'm planning on using 6 inch line thru trout spro bbz 1 jr Huddleston 68. But not sure if the 8 inch Huddleston and and s waver 200 and other baits around 8 inch work good in NH. I know if I'm going to be using the lighter lures then the 795 would be good. But I'm looking for suggestions on the larger 8 inch baits also would work around these parts. If so then the 806 would be better. I mostly fish ponds and some lakes in the southern area of the state out of a Jon boat. I guess the question is, do 8 inch baits work in NH like they do in other states that have DD fish. What would you swimbait guys suggest, heavier rod and bigger baits or lighter rod and around 6 inch baits? Thanks in advance.
  17. hi guys, im new here but thought id share some recent pictures of the fattys ive been catching this winter. all fish are caught using savage gear line thru's and 3d real trouts!
  18. I plan to dedicated myself to all big and small swimbait this year. Last year I got a lot of success on Fluke and chatterbait, so this year I'm going to try my luck on a little faster moving lure like swimbait and lipless. I have some stock of paddle tail swimbait where I mostly plan to use as chatterbait trailer like 4.8 keitech, gambler ez, swim Senko zoom swimming Fluke, etc. I'm going to get some of the keitech 5.8, 6.8 and 7.8 as well. Im going to need some help actually a lot form you guys this year since I have never success on any swimbait ( caught 3 on hudd 68 and that's all) First off, I'm going to setup a new medium size swimbait weighted up to 2 oz. The rod is gonna be Phoenix ultra mbx 700XH. This rod got a lure rated of 1.5 oz, but I tried with hudd 68 weedless rof5 and it cast just find. My question is about reel, the reels I plan to use with this setup are Daiwa steez ex100HS, or shimano Cardiff 200 or Tatula CT type R. Can steez handle 2oz lure weight? Quote per tackle tour review "Some anglers have reported that the Steez Series reels do not hold up well to the rigors of tournament fishing, that the gearing easily strips under pressure." I like to stay with 200 size reel for this application. I believe since I'm gonna use #15 Izor line dia 0.16 I should get close to 90yds. My second choice would be Tatula but it got 8.1:1 ratio might be too fast. Cardiff would be my last choice and worst come to worst if I have to buy a new reel I might get curado 200k with micro gear module. Any opinions?
  19. What is your favorite soft swimbait not pre-rigged mine is the reaction innovation skinny dipper
  20. I just wanted to post some lures I made recently. The glide baits are 5.5, 5, and 7.5 inches long for some perspective.
  21. Really just looking for opinions on the possibility of a double digit largemouth swimming in WI. I personally believe theres a few lakes that have the potential for a fish that big.
  22. What is you guys approach or position your boat? I have read some info on Tactical bassing and also from huddletons website but not many talking about this topic. I lately position boat close to shore/ledges and cast parallel or out in open water to search for fish.
  23. I fish a small sand stone quarry it's about 20 acres and gets a lot of fishing pressure everyday at deepest it's around 26ft deep. The lake is stocked with trout so do you think using a trout swimbait would work I've never seen anyone using one and any tips on using it would be appreciated
  24. I am looking for a great swimbait rod, reel, line, etc, that can last me a good while. Don't have a budget
  25. Hey Guys, Recently started fishing soft plastic swimbaits; I have had some success on Berkley Havoc Grass Pig; I have just been rigging it weightless with EWG 3/0 hook. I picked up some YUM Houdini Shad and will probably get some Money Minnows or Lil Suzees; I am wondering how you guys fish them: Weightless? Swimbait hook weighted/non weighted? What size hook, I have seen videos where guys say 5/0 hooks...that seems a little large. Either way if you guys could give me tips on rigging and fishing them I would appreciate it. Thanks
