  1. I fish in a lot of stained water ponds with bluegill as the main forge. I'm just starting out fishing swim jigs, so what trailers would you guys suggest for these conditions?
  2. $150 bucks? Im hunting more of a swimjig specific, maybe 80/20 action, rod for swimming a jig. I'd be fishing a good amount of vegitation like hydrilla, pad/pad stems, etc but feel my current rod I use is to short (6'10") and too heavy. IDEALLY....I'd love to find good rod, with the power and action, to also frog and toss a spinnerbait, but still be a solid swim jig rod. Any help is greatly appreciated...TIA and tight lines
  3. Well my old swim jog rod finally broke on me, And so did my lews MB, So i picked up a lews laser MG for 60 bucks on sale, And i just want a cheap swim jig rod untell i can get a replacement, No more then 60 bucks at the least, I have looked at many around that price range, And Berkly lightning rods look fine, I just thought id see some other opinions here on the forums, So any suggestions would help, Thank you!.
  4. I live in central Florida and fish the Kissimmee Chain mainly and if you know this chain, you know how much grass, pads, and hydrilla there is. I LOVE to fish a heavy cover swim jig, mainly a 1/2 oz. Gambler Heavy Cover Swim Jig with an EZ Swimmer trailer. Heavy grass, heavy rods, heavy line. For those of y'all that fish this, what's your preferred Rod?! I'm looking for the right one, I love Halo and Fitzgerald rods.
  5. I've recently begun to see great variance in hook-setting styles, e.g. snap set, sweep set, reel set, and standard powerhook setting. Keep in mind that today's hooks are incredibly sharp, you usually don't have to yank the moon from the sky to set the hook. What sets do you you use for which baits; I tend to use: Sweep set-slowest, reeling slack/loading rod, then sweeping sideways or lightly towards an 11 o'clock position For crankbaits...or anything with trebles. Including lipless crank (a standard hookset can rip them out of the mouth) Top water Soft plastics Reel set-Load rod with reel, (not so much that they can feel you) then set hook (not lightly, not powerfully, find a happy medium) when using smaller, wire hooks, e.g. wacky rigs football jigs/any jig not fished in heavy cover-Hard hooksets can pull the lure, causing that lead head to bust open a bass' mouth and swim away. This also compresses the weeguard before the set. This must be done quickly. Use a high speed reel. soft plastics- Quality Wide gap/EWG hooks and wire hooks Finesse lures (wacky rigs, shaky heads etc.) Anything with circle hooks Snap set- A regular hookset, but without having reeled in all the slack. It can pop a lure while in a bass' mouth instead of just yanking it out Also used for jigs. Good for T-rigged soft plastics when bottom bouncing; especially with heavier hooks Soft standard Hookset-'Nuff said T rigged soft plastics-wire hooks O.K. for jigs with small hooks Tex-posed Soft Plastics Hard-'Nuff Said Flipping and pitching when using massive hooks Swim jigs Spinnerbaits When a lot of line is between you and the bait/heavy cover Thick soft plastics with large buried/weedless hooks Topwater plastics like frog and eeliminators weedless hollow frogs
  6. What is your favorite of the two In what situations would you pick one over the other and why
  7. I getting into jig fishing and I recently purchased some jigs from NorthStar Custom Baits and i noticed that the skirts were really long and really thick and the weed gaurd is long as well. Is there any thing that you do to your jigs to either catch more fish or to get better action from your trailers or for some other reason. Thanks
  8. I have very little experience with jigs and though I hope to visit cabelas soon, I currently have no jigs. What would you use if you were left without; for me, so for, quickly swimming worms, paddletails, and jerkbaits have taken its place.
  9. Anyone ever see this or try it? chainganglures.com Might not be for me, but I was curious if you had any luck with it?
  10. Has anyone have any trouble with skirt staying on the Booyah Swim Jig. I got the one in bluegill (really more of a brown/black). The skirt attempts to come off every other casts. If I was getting strikes I would understand but I'm not. The only way it stays on is if I have a trailer on. Which isn't right. I should be able to use it without a trailer to give it a smaller profile. Right? Here's a pic of it I got from lurenet.com:
