  1. I'm looking at a 7'11 St.Croix LTG ive always been a Shimano guy and had the Zodias 7'6G but that ended up breaking thanks to a ceiling fan that i didn't want but the wife wanted.. ( needless to say its that fan is no longer up there ) So this next rod will either be one of the two. Only reason why im flirting on these two rods is because the Zodias has recently been updated and i know the rod will preform well versus Croix having 15 year warranty. I'm not really a Croix guy but im open to hear your opinions.
  2. I found a St Croix Mojo Bass casting rod on sale for $75 so I grabbed it. It's a 7'11" heavy powered rod with a moderate fast taper. The rod is made for flipping into heavy cover but with me living in Indiana there isn't a lot of heavy cover in the ponds and lakes that I fish. I need some suggestions on what I can use it for besides flipping.
  3. What are everyone's thoughts about the new St Croix Victory series? Did you buy one? I'm purposely holding off until I read more reviews on them. I've heard mixed reviews. I'm in the market for a crankbait rod and I don't know whether I like the 7'2" MH Power Target Crank rod or if I should go with a MH Legend Glass rod instead... what have you heard about the new rod series (any model)? Do you own any Legend Glass rods? Or mojo glass? Should I go with the tried and true or try something new?
  4. Hello guys, looking for any information anybody may have on using a Saint Croix 7 foot two piece medium heavy premier musky rod for a punch rod. I have to fly every time I bass fish because I live in Alaska, so a two piece rod is super important to me and getting a lot harder to find these days. I’m taking a trip to the California Delta this J i’m taking a trip to the California Delta this June, I fished in that area last September, there was tons of heavy floating matt i’ve never been a frog or punch fisherman generally because I don’t get to fish bass that early in the year. But I’m going to do it this year. Two piece rods are a must for me so much easier flying. Can’t wait to learn this new tactic just need to get the right rods for the job.
  5. My dad and I used to fish when I was young until he became crippled and then later he passed away when I was 13. He helped develop my love for the sport. My mother moved us across the state to a place that didn't have much water. I now live in Byron Center Mi and I'm trying to get into the sport again. I am saving to own a boat one day, but its is difficult with 5 kids. Since I don't have a boat, I rent one about 3 times a year and do mostly shore fishing in Elk Rapids at the dam. I am trying to puchase some new rods and reels and I could really use some help putting together my arsonal. Just purchased the SLX DC 150 and pairing it with a Dobyns Fury 7'0 MHF. I also just purchased a spinning rod which is a St Croix Avid X 7'0 ML to pair with a spinning reel I have (diawa 2500 I think). This will be my finesse worm rod. What else do I need? I think I might needs something a little heavier for a flipping/froggin rod. Thinking about a 7'6 Heavy fast of some kind. Am I on the right track? what would you recommend for my next purchase? My complete list of rod and reels are attached. What gaps do you see? Thanks in advance for any advice you can give. Much appreciated. My Fishing Gear List.xlsx
  6. Long story short but no matter what I do my dedicated weightless Senko only combo, Shimano Stradic Ci4+ 2500 with a St. Croix Avid X 68 MXF is so uncomfortable I don't enjoy fishing it with it. Don't get me wrong, it is an amazing Senko rod as I've caught some pigs on that rod. But, no matter what I do my right hand and fingers that are used to grip the rod and reel base just hurt like hell after a short time. It's upsetting as I'm a huge St. Croix rods and Shimano reel fan boy but don't know if I can use this combo any longer. None of my other St. Croixs (Avids, Mojo Bass, both spinning and casting) have ever hurt my hand. I've tried swapping reels and rods and for example the Stradic Ci4+ feels great on my other spinning rods, Dobyns Sierras or Daiwas hurt. So, ultimately I'd like to use the Stradic Ci4+ and try a new Senko specific rod. I want to keep the 6'-6" to 6'-8" length as I prefer it for this presentation. This combo is always with me, whether it's bass boat, kayak, shore or creek wading, mostly kayak though. Should I try another St. Croix spinning, LTB? None of my Loomis rods hurt my hands, IMX pro casting rods. I actually sold an older Loomis GL2 802s that I used to use for weightless Senkos and now kind of regretting that. The Avid X is lighter, stronger and better constructed than that older Loomis, but when I throw a reel on it sucks. Thanks for any recommendations, and yes I've followed and posted in the very helpful "Senko specific rod thread". Have a great weekend guys and gals!
  7. I’ve been looking to get a new worm and jig rod (with maybe the occasional chatterbait or topwater) and I’ve narrowed it down to either the 6’10”MH Zodias or 72MH Zodias or a 7MH Avid. They honestly both seem like very good rods, and I like the makeup of the Zodias a little bit more than the Avid. However, I also like the Avids warranty and the fact that it’s made in the US as well. The lack of hookeeper on the Zodias does not bother me. For those of you who own the rods, what are they like? Are they too stiff to throw 1/4 ounce t rigs? Are they sensitive? Are they versitile or pretty technique specific? If anyone owns both, which do you prefer? Any and all imput is appreciated! Thanks!
  8. I have a St. Croix MJC71MHF that I absolutely love as my T-Rig/Jig rod, but I’ve been exploring some new areas in the Louisiana Delta and I’m looking for something with a little more backbone when I get into heavier grass. I’m usually only throwing a 1/2-5/8oz. Looked at the St. Croix MJC76MHMF and the Castaway SV72H. Like the Castaway a little more because it had a little more backbone and 7’6 is a little long for me. Any other recommendations y’all can think of?
  9. Rumor is: St Croix to announce next week they will discontinue the sale of USA rolled sc2, sc3 and sc4 blanks. USA rolled SC5 blanks will be available exclusively through Rodgeeks.
  10. Deciding between one of these 3 for a new jig rod. All would be rated for 3/8-1 oz lures. Daiwa is the most affordable, and people claim its very sensitive, but i like the looks of the st croix LT and after researching it seems kistler makes some of the most sensitive rods. Anyone with experience, is there a big difference in sensitivity, and is there a big difference in performance from the higher prices of two of these rods as compared to the tatula? Also considering a refurbished dobyns champion extreme hp but i'm afraid a 705 would be too heavy and stiff for a jig/heavy texas rig rod. I know i've posted a lot about this, but really want to make sure my money is spent wisely. Thanks
  11. I am looking to upgrade some of my cheaper rods I got when I was first starting to fish tournaments 4 years ago. As you can imagine they have seen their better days especially the lower end ones. I am on a budget as a high school student so I am trying to stay kinda cheap. My higher end rods are fairly new so I am just looking for some in the $100-$150 range. I currently use Abu Garcia Veritas for the majority of my rods but have been looking at the St. Croix Bass X Series. I have a Legend Tournament spinning rod that I love and I have heard great things from the Bass X rods. So, what rods would you recommend? I am looking to get about 4 casting and 2 spinning. I am also open to other rods as well, these 2 just happened to catch my eye. Thanks for your recommendations!
  12. Hello All, I am looking to get a high end all purpose casting rod. I have my options limited down to 3. St Croix Legend Elite G Rods Pro Bass Doblyns champion extreme HP. I will be getting a 7ft Medium Heavy, Fast action rod. If it helps, I have a Abu Garcia Revo Premier Gen 4. I appreciate it. Tight Lines Patrick
  13. I’m looking for a new casting rod for all around use around a 7ft MH. I was thinking about either a Dobyns Fury, a St Croix Mojo Bass, or a G Loomis E6X which I could get for around $110 with the varsity shimano program. Can anyone give me some insight to which rod performs the best? I’m open to other rods too if you have suggestions. Thanks
  14. I am think of getting this rod fro swimbaits frogs flipping and punching
  15. I have been looking into buying another bait caster this will be my 3rd, the first one was kind of a pos so I will not include that one. I am looking at buying a daiwa tatula ct 6:3:1 gear ratio and a st croix bass mojo. I don't know if I should get medium or medium heavy, and fast action or mod fast. I am decently new to bass fishing. This rod will be more of a general purpose because I only have 1 other combo. The combo that I own is a Abu Garcia orra sx 7:1:1 with the abu garcia vendetta medium heavy fast action that I mostly throw spinner baits and swim jigs on.
  16. I purchased a MHF Mojo rod recently. I wanted a versatile rod to do things anywhere from finesse to spinners and jigs. After fishing one day with it I realized how uncomfortable it was in my hand. It also felt incredibly stiff, stiffer than other MH rods I had used. I had heard people say that St Croix rods are generally a bit on the heavier side compared to their ratings, is this true? I wound up going back to Bass Pro and traded it in to the Avid X MF casting rod because of how great it felt in my hand. With the Mojo, however, I was able to fish grassy spots in lakes pretty well. With this Avid X M, I know I will be able to finesse a bit better, but I'm also wondering (if St Croix are, in fact, on the heavier side) if I will be able to work in grass as well as the MH Mojo? Last question: the rod is rated up to 5/8 lures. How will it handle 3/4? I'm sure it being a casting rod will help it handle a bit better, yeah?
  17. Hi all, Its been awhile since I posted (I know slacking!), I been reading your guys information still. I had a question about two different rods from two different companies. Tomorrow, I'm going to BPS Fishing Classic Sale (Excited), I know I'm like a kid in the candy store. I narrowed my selection down to two rods I want for throwing crankbaits from 1/2 oz to 3/4 oz. I'll be pairing this rod up with the Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier (can't beat the price at $49.99). I searched the forums to find an answer before I made a post but was unsuccessful. The two rods are Bass Pro Shops Crankin Stick ($80), or St. Croix Mojo Bass (graphite, $130). I want the rod to have some power (Medium Heavy 7 ft), and sensitivity. I know the Crankin Stick has glass and graphite mixed. I know St. Croix are known for sensitivity. I'll test the reel onto these two rods when I go there. I also did some research to find these two rods would be the best based off what I need the rod to do (throw crankbaits). The problem is I'm having a hard time to decide. I'd like to have some other thoughts before I go tomorrow. Which rod would be a better suite for a crankbait rod for power and sensitivity? Thanks all to who reply.
  18. I just purchased a mojo bass 7ft med.heavy moderate fast action and this is the only rod that my local retailer sold that was close to all around and having a handle length I was comfortable with, should this rod I got be good for doing about everything and just as a all around rod? I know gander mountain has a 7,1 med heavy fast and that's the one I originally wanted but my local retailer didn't have that one so I just went with the mod fast but would the mod fast be more versatile? Or should I take it back and get a fast action one.
  19. Purchasing two rods next week 1 spinning 1 casting. I like the feel of the Legend tournament bass rods. Thinking about pulling the trigger on 6'9" MhMF "Sniper Spinnerbait" rated up to 5/8 or 7'MhMF "Sweeper Spinnerbait" rated up to 3/4. Never handled these rods but I'm wanting to use them for 5-6ft squarebills and 1/2oz lipless cranks around grass. Does anyone own these rods if so what do you personally use them for? Also curious about the 6'10 MlXF "Drop shot/ Finesse" spinning rod. Would mostly use for weightless plastics, senkos, and ocassional shakeyhead, or 1/8oz weight. Anyone own this also?
  20. Howdy, Anyone excited about the new S-glass SCs coming out in Nov? I've been in the market for a 10XD rod. There is a 7'11 H SC in this series. Now I regularly borrow a Dobyns D806cb, but I can get the SC 15% cheaper than the Dobyns. Bassresource, help make my decisions for me!
  21. Hey gang! Long time viewer of the site, first time poster I recently caught a state record LMB in Rhode Island and St. Croix sent me an AVS66MF Avid spinning rod for the accomplishment. I plan on making the hike to Cabella's with the rod to match it up with a reel, but I would like to hear some unbiased opinions/reviews before doing so. My ceiling is $500 or so, but I don't need to spend that much if its unnecessary. Though my research, I have been gravitating towards the Stradic FK and C4i+, but would like to know more about JDM reels and some reviews on Diawa/Penn reels. ***I do most of my fishing off shore on top water gear and only pursue Largemouth Bass. Also, I pretty much always use 30lb braid on my spinning setups.*** My current set ups are as follows. Neither are all that great, so I am looking for my first above average combo. St. Croix PS60MF w/ Quantum Energy (old style w/ chameleon paint) St. Croix PC60MF w/ Diawa Viento Let me know! I look forward to seeing what everyone has to say and if possible, lets keep this civil. I really don't have a horse in the race as I've always fished on budget gear, just looking for something ill be happy with for years to come. PS. I'll try to upload a picture of the catch, but for some reason I'm getting a denied based upon a size restriction which my picture is under. Here it is
  22. looking for a good worm rod to go with my 13 casting 7:3:1 reel, avid x doesn't sell around a 3/16 weight for casting, would it still perform as well? The big weights usually do not suit me.
  23. greetings anglers, would a 7 ft medium fast st. croix premier be the way to go if fishing 1/8 oz tubes for smallies in rivers? any reply helps, thanks and fish on!
  24. Im looking to buy a med hvy fast action baitcastin rod and would like to know your guys favorite rod in that action and power. I was thinking maybe a st croix avid x but want some opinions on what i should get, i would like to spend 200 dollars or less maybe 250.
  25. Hi guys, After years of fishing with only Ugly Stiks and never spending more than 50 bucks on a reel, i decided to go crazy and get a new fishing rod and reel. So I got the New St Croix 7ft Medium Fast 2016 Legend Elite Casting Rod with a Lews Team Pro Speed Spool Casting Reel as kind of a versatile all-rounder. My question is, do I need to be careful on how I treat these things? Coming from a Ugly Stik, you can imagine me throwing it around and yanking it if the line gets stuck. Will the St Croix snap if I treat it the same way (more about the yanking if the line gets stuck, i doubt i'll toss it around)? Also I just like to use the rod to bring the fish out of the water all the way up to my feet (3-5 lb bass) . Is this a no no for these rods? I know a lot of you have premium sticks in here so just wanted to see if I have to treat it like a baby or how much I needed to be careful. Thank you. (do u think i made a good choice btw? These rods are so new, i haven't found a single review on them)
