    Hello, all I wanted your thoughts between these two rods. I wanted a longer rod to cushion more headshakes and fish shaking me off. I want to improve my landing ration with little paddletail swimbaits, ned rigs, dropshots and small topwaters. I have narrowed down to both of these 7'6 rods and wanted your opinions on which you think is better and why. Thank you!

    what's up guys, basically I am conflicted between a 1000 and 2500 size reel... maybe even 2000 size but feel like might as well get the 2500 at that point. Anyway I don't fish spinning setups a ton but I'm wanting to get into it so I can take it to the creeks so for sure some smaller sun fish some rock bass and the occasional 2-3lb max smallmouth will be targeted as well. I just don't want having the 1000 to screw me out of a decent bass when it comes. going to put it on a 6'6 rod medium fast. wanting to use braid. thanks for anyone that has any advice.

    Hey all, I’m replacing all my rods real soon as I really only have two good ones. All the other are either real nicked up or broke. I’m on the search for a real good rod spinning mainly but as well as bait casting. I’ve been looking at St. Croix mojo bass or the dobyns fury. Any suggestions? Would love to hear everyone’s 2 cents!

    Recently had a mishap with a megabass Destroyer and warranty issues are making me want to stop doing business with them entirely. Wondering for a replacement who'd be the better replacement. A rod from St-croix or Gloomis? Would love to hear everyone's thoughts!

    So I literally thought I had a big bass a few days ago at a public pond but it turns out I literally caught a rod/reel combo that I guess some monster pulled out of the hands of some unlucky guy lol. The reel was ruined and cheap but I now am the owner of a unblemished Abu Garcia Veritas spinning rod that retails for about $100. It cleaned up perfectly. It’s a 6’6” medium heavy/moderate fast spinning rod. Not sure what would be the best bait application for that type of rod. Any suggestions? Reel suggestions $100 and under? Thanks in advance.

    Hello! I was bank fishing the other day with my casting combo. The casting reel is a Shimano Scorpion DC reel with 10lb mono. A gentleman with a spinning combo came and started to fish with me using a weighted wacky rig. He was launching that thing...really far. I wasn't catching anything on my topwater frog so he asked me if I wanted a weighted senko (he pulled in a 5lb bass within 15-20 min). I took his offer. He said my casting reel should be able to launch the wacky rig further than his spinning. His friends apparently can launch it nearly to the middle of the lake. I was not even close, I changed the break to 1. Also, I am fairly new using a casting reel. Only had this for a couple months. What is going on? 3 things I can think of is my technique, type of line/test and rod type? The guy had braid, forgot what test.

    So I am looking for a spinning rod to use as a ned rig setup and I came across the Fenwick Silverhawk II Spinning Rods that are on sale but I am not sure if I want to buy it because close to 40% of the reviews are stating that it breaks easily, specifically the tip. I was wondering if anyone has or has had one and can certify the claim that they can break easily or not. Also are there any suggestions on any rods I should look at for fishing the Ned rig. I am looking for a medium light with a fast tip that is within 6'9" to 7'1" range.     I know this is a heavily brought up topic, but after doing research for the last 2 weeks, I’m still no closer to making a decision. Throughout my fishing career I’ve never really given a tremendous amount of thought to my rods. I could always catch plenty with average gear. I’ve been looking to get a new rod and cannot make a decision to save my life. I’m looking for a sensitive 7ft-7’3ft / medium or medium/light fast action spinning rod for senko fishing. I’ve been looking in the $100-$200 range. A lot of threads with this similar question say a Dobyn Fury, St Croix mojo, etc... I’ve found other people who swear that Duckett triad or Falcon Bucco sr are way better. I thought maybe I should just bite the bullet and get a G-loomis imx, but still there’s people who say even that isn’t worth the money. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -Thanks

    I've had some frustrating experiences with fluoro and am considering making the switch to copoly mostly for wacky rigging with my spinning rod on shallow waters. I'd appreciate any advice/recommendations on which line provides the most reliability when paired up with a spinning rod, as well as brand recommendations. I also believe that you (should) get what your pay for and don't mind investing in a high quality line. Additionally, please share any insights related to the role of the reel that I should take into consideration too. My current set up is a ML/EF spinning rod with an old Shimano Sienna FD 4000.     Looking for some guide advice for a build I’m about to get started on. I’m building my ideal popping cork rod for inshore speckled trout fishing. I usually run a 20# or 30# braid main line with a fluorocarbon leader anywhere between 12# and 20#. I use either a uni knot or FG knot to connect the lines together. What guide setup does everyone like for a spinning rod where a leader knot will come into play? Micros are obviously not an option, but I’m wondering what everyone thinks about this scenario before I decide.

    Desparately need a finesse setup. Current one is a $12 Shakespeare combo from Walmart bought in 2012 and it's been so hot in Texas bass are getting lazy and going deep. Unless the new St. Croix Bass X is just awesome, I'm gonna be stuck between a Duckett Micro Magic Pro and a G-Loomis E6X spinning setup. Most likely paired with a light as possible reel and like 6-8lb InvizX fluoro. Open to suggestions for the reel. Rig will be used for everything light from weightless wacky rigs and drop shots to the little 3" Z-Man T.R.D. shakey head things, and needs to last a long time since I plan on trying to get into TAMU Kingsville or Lamar University within the next 2 years. Will be trying to join their respective fishing teams.

    So,In my search for a new spinning Rod I have settled on 3 possibles. Fenwick HMG, Fenwick HMX, Abu Garcia Vendetta. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Also, any opinions on 2 piece as opposed to 1 piece. Do you lose any sensitivity by going 2 piece? (Like I would know) Will be bank fishing small ponds and lakes. All rods medium to medium heavy, fast action 6'6 Thanks Forgot to mention I will be pairing it with a Pflueger Supreme or President LE. thanks again

    okay so, ive made a few posts the past 2 weeks about spinning rods and reels. eventually i bring up the topic of "choking points" and it never seems to really get elaborated on.. so here it is... Am I the only one who checks for the choking point on their spinning rods before buying? a little insight on this subject matter... the choking point on a spinning rod is measured with your reel mounted to the rod with the spool fully removed. you then align the spool axle with a straight edge (i.e. a door, counter, table, work bench etc). with the naked eye, line up the spool axle with that straight edge as best you can. at that point, your rod will eventually intersect that line, and will cross over, or hang off that edge. wherever your rod intersects the straight edge is the choking point of that rod and reel combo. the more straight the rod is to the edge, the better that reel will work on that rod. anyways, the reason for this post is not just to see who else checks this, but to see if anyone has suggestions for good,great and perfect rod/reel combos. i went ahead and bought a daiwa lexa 7'3 spinning rod and cant find a reel that works well with it. (im sure the lexa line of reels are the right match but my pockets currently have some holes) i have a shimano sahara 2500 and new daiwa revros 2500. i dont need a bigger reel because i dont need all that line capacity. and id like to keep it all light weight. but if a 3000 series reel will fix my problem then so be it! i am open and interested in hearing about your combos and how well they work together, especially regarding the choke point. i used to have a 7ft abu garcia vengeance spinning rod, with a penn fierce 3000 reel. quite heavy, but the alignment was terrific, the choking point was nice and high up on the rod, but ive moved on to lighter and better things now! so please, pardon my obnoxious, continuous phrase use, and lets hear it guys!

    Yesterday we stopped by Dick's and I wandered over to the fishing department to look at rods. Noticed a section with all their new 2014 rods and found a 7' spinning rod for $15 so I grabbed it. It's a Daiwa Sweepfire 702 mfs rod with these specs: Model Length Number Power Action (Feet) Pieces Line Wt. (Lb.) Lure Wt. (Ounces) No. Guides SWC 702MFS MH F 7' 2 6 - 14 1/8 - 3/4 6 It's fiberglass, not graphite and I know it's not a high dollar rod by any means but I'm at the point in my life where my 16 year old son keeps grabbing my good Fenwick HMG casting rods and I'm hoping that this new one will tempt him more and make him quit using the good ones. But now I need a reel for my it. I don't have any problem with spending more money on this reel, say top out around $80. So what would be a good fit for this rod? I've heard good things about Okuma and looked (online) at an Avenger - B at Academy and yesterday I played with a couple different ones at Dick's but nothing rang my bell. I didn't like the ABU-GARCIA Cardinal STX at all but the Revo I really liked. I just didn't want to spend that much money on a reel for a $15 rod. I'm a longtime Mitchell fan but I'm not so sure about their newer offereings. I had an old 308 about 8 years ago that just kind of fell apart after a couple years of light use and I just got a bad taste in my mouth for them. I plan on putting Braid on this combination and use it for frogging and just general use. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Hey fellas, I am fishing my first tournament this upcoming May on Greers Ferry here in the great state of Arkansas. I will be co-angling and from research I will most likely be predominately throwing finesse rigs from the back of the boat. I currently own a 7' Heavy Micro-Magic Duckett fast action with a 7:1:1 Lew's Tournament Speed Spool and a 7' Medium Micro Magic Duckett fast action with a 6:4:1 Lew's TSS Also. I have a 6'6" BPS extreme Medium Heavy with a Nitro Tournament Z 6:4:1, but will most likely not be taking it because the reel is a piece of garbage. I don't have a spinning set up and am looking to purchase one before the tournament in May. I love my Ducketts and have had no problems with them over the past year and a half, but I noticed these Cashion Rods the other day and was intrigued by the way they are built and the features they have on them. My plan is to get either a 7' Medium or Medium Heavy Duckett Micro-Magic Spinning rod. Like I said though These Cashion Rods have caught my eye and I may go with there 7'2" Shaky Head Rod (Medium Heavy). I just wanted to get some of yall's opinions on the two spinning rods and see which one y'all would select from the two. Also if you have anything to say about the tournament I will be fishing in I am open to anything y'all have to say. Thanks, TCN

    I love throwing weightless trickworms. They're a confidence bait that have worked in the ponds and small lakes i fish when nothing else was getting bit. I'm looking to upgrade some gear this winter, and I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a quality spinning rod for fishing these worms and baits of similar style. I want something really lightweight. Any ideas?

    Hey guys I have been planning on buying a Quantum Smoke and Abu Garcia Veritas spinning setup however the fiance doesn't want me to spend nearly 300 bucks on another rod and reel so I'm thinking about buying A Daiwa Ballistic Spinning rod and Quantum Catalyst PTI spinning reel from tackle warehouse during the 4th sale and the sale on the ballistic rods that is happening right now. I'm looking to buy this spinning setup for lighter presentations. Any thoughts, experiences, or opinions with this gear would be greatly appreciated.

    Hey guys, I am about to pickup a GLX BSR803 in great condition for $200. I was wondering if anyone has any opinions on this rod and what techniques it excels at? I would be using it mainly for wacky rigging 5" senkos as well as 3/16 oz. tubes, and 3/16 oz. - 1/4 oz. shaky heads. Thanks guys!

    So my 53 year old father wants to spend more time with me and my brother, and we like to fish. My brother is in high school tournaments and Im a atypical college student who would rather go to bed early n get up to go fishing than waste my morning hungover from the night before. Every time my Dad comes out with us though, he jokes around about having to use our "guest" tackle. He mentioned to me tonight that he would like to buy himself a nice rod and reel...spinning only, at the moment he doesn't think he can handle a baitcaster (but we are going to work on that). I would like to give him some suggestions but I want to make sure they are the right ones to give so I figured I'd ask. He likes to fish top water pop r's, crankbaits, rattle traps, the occasional TR trick worm, and his all time favorite: live bait lol. I would like to suggest to him a combo that is not geared towards any one thing too particularly and something that he will be able to throw just about anything with and have a decent shot of making it work. Basically, a beginners rod that doesnt seem like one. His max price for the whole thing is probably $300 or so. He said he wants something nice, but nothing that's expensive just for the sake of being expensive.

    My previous rod was a 4'6" UL spinning rod (berkley safari). I'm looking to replace it with another spinning rod although I am thinking of going heavier that UL. I mostly fish for smallmouths in the rivers/streams here in ohio. Bank or wade fishing only. My previous most used techniques break down as follows: (ROUGHLY) 50%- curly tails grubs/minnows on jig heads (1/16 to 1/4 oz with 1/8-3/16 being most used) 25%- small top water 10%- small crankbaits 5%- spinner bait 5%- texas rigged worm 5%- other Based on information I've found here and other sites I'm leaning towards the Fenwick Elite Tech smallmouth Rods. Others in the running are St.Croix Premier/Avid, and Loomis Bronzeback. Like the look of the price of the Fenwick, as well as the large lure size range on them. My concern is that the shortest rod is 6'3" MEDIUM (quite a jump from my ultralight) or a 6'9" Medium Light or Medium (might get used to length but having looked at some 7' rods in store they seem HUGE to me atm.) Also the 6'9" Medium comes in fast or extra fast. Which techniques are best with the fast or the x-fast? Thoughts and opinions welcome. I'm looking to maybe throw some bigger lures although it would be great if the new rod could still throw my UL gear I already have. If they made the UL in 6'3" or shorter there would be no questions (First time poster, hope I did everything right, and in the right forum!)
