  1. I recently had some skirts go bad on my spinners and happen to have an abundance of embroidery thread in every color, could I tie this onto the jig head and make it like a skirt?
  2. The water is warming up here in NC. Today was my only chance to fish (because of class and a Spring Break trip I gotta prep for), and when I got to the pond the wind was whipping at about 25 mph. Casting was difficult, but I decided to use a red booyah spinnerbait (clouds, wind, pre-spawn...maybe I was on to something?). After several minutes with no bites, I switched to a weightless Texas-rigged bandito bug, Alabama craw color. After snagging and breaking it off immediately, I tied on another one. Unfortunately, I didn't catch anything (I think the wind was a bit too strong and probably pushed them too deep for me to reach from the bank). It's supposed to rain all next week, so it may be a while until I get out again. Anyway, good luck to all y'all out there!
  3. I'm going to be putting together a spinner bait/chatter bait setup for next season and need to pick a reel. I already have a Daiwa Tatula CT and it's been great. The 13 Fishing G2 Inception causes that itch in brain and I wanted to find out for those who use it, how it is it? Thoughts on comparing both reels? I'm thinking a 6.x:1 ratio would be good?
  4. Hey BR, Here is a new video that I uploaded where I share a Secret bait for Fall Bass Fishing. Hope you like it and thanks for watching!
  5. ok i fish the Charles river dock in Watertown and i have been for the past 2 weeks every day for at least 1 hour each time and i havent even seen a bass yet should i leave it or no it looks good and all and it has bait fish perch sunfish and all that stuff and i might have seen people catch a bass there but ya. also this river is either murky or murky clear it has weeds and logs in the water i have already lost like 4 lures there and it has alot of green stuff that gets on my lures any tips i normally go there around 245 at latest arive around 4 and fish until 530 and no bass. i have fished it all top water senko crankbait spinnerbait crawfish and no action on anything at all except for some sunfish and 4 inch bass looking things that i can drop my lure right infront of them since they camp the dock and they will nibble it and swim away every time thats the most action i ever got. i dont know what to fish it anymore what lures to use how to use them and all that i think i need a complete refresh of knowlage and tips can yall help me out.
  6. Hello Everyone. I have been having a tough time choosing what type of spinnerbait to purchase to imitate the main forage when I fish my local ponds around where I live. I've heard people recommend tandem willows to imitate bluegill, but also heard that to better imitate a bluegill's vibration that I should use Indiana or Colorado Blades. So I just would like to hear some of recommendations and opinions from you guys.
  7. Was think about what historically produces better than average quality fish and in my opinion these are the Top 3 "traditional" baits that consistently produce better than average fish during the pre spawn period. Thanks for watching!
  8. I want to start hand tying jigs, buzzbaits, and spinnerbaits but I am not sure what lb braid to use to do so. Most of the jigs are about 1/4 oz - 3/4 oz, buzzbaits and spinnerbaits around 1/4 oz - 1/2 oz, but the most common weight for all being 3/8 oz.
  9. Is it ok to rig a spinnerbait with a snap or is it better to tie on direct?
  10. Hey guys, I came across someone who's looking to sell their Loomis 812C spinnerbait rod for a really good price (and it comes with a Curado 51E, so it's a steal!). The thing is, although I do occasionally throw spinnerbaits, I was hoping I could use the rod with other types of lures, like medium sized jerkbaits and small(ish) poppers and walkers - think no. 8 and 10 X-Raps, and Skitter Pops and V's. On paper, the 812 is long enough that I'd make decent casts, but short enough to jerk the tip down without risking any damage. Does anyone who own this model use it for stuff other than spinnerbaits? What's your experience with it? Thanks! John
  11. I am wanting to start making my own spinnerbaits, and could use some advise. Firstly, I was looking at the Do-It molds for spinnerbaits and they have a banana design and a bullet design. Any advise on which to pick and the difference in them? (As far as action, etc.) Secondly, what brand/type of hooks and wire do you guys recommend? Thanks for the help!!
  12. I finally got out for about 2 hours today fishing the Strike King KVD finesse spinnerbait, and while I got about 4 - 5 pretty vicious strikes on it, I missed all of them on the hookset. I'm pretty sure they were all fish, but I just couldn't hook them. Does anybody know why that would be? I'm thinking it might be the way I'm setting the hook, but I'm not sure. My hookset is just a hard pull on the rod, is that wrong? Also, is fishing open water effective, or is shallow water better? Thanks!
  13. Hey guys new member here with a question. Does anybody know of a good kit or anything that would allow me to customize my own spinnerbaits? I’ve been wanting to get more into customizing my own baits and I’m wanting to start with my spinnerbaits. I’d really like to customize my own skirts and stuff. I don’t want to manufacture my own stuff but I would like to mix and match my own colors but haven’t really been able to find anything on Google unless I’ve skipped over it. If anybody has any input it would be greatly appreciated!
  14. I'm looking into getting a new setup for chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, and other open hook moving baits. So far I've narrowed it down to two rods and thee reels. The rods are the Daiwa Tatula XT cranking rods in a 7' MH reg. glass rod, and a Denali Jadewood J2 7' MH mod. I don't know much about glass rods, any tips or advice? The reels are the Lews Speed Spool LFS, the Lews Mach I Speed Spool, and the Shimano Casitas 150. I notice the Mach I weighs half an ounce more, yet has a deeper spool, whereas the Casitas has less line capacity than both reels. Any thoughts on what to get or anything about the equipment? Thank you.
  15. I know this is a very general question but what has been your overall most productive style of retrieve (speed, pauses, jerks, etc) with these different baits on pressured waters? 1. Spinnerbait 2. Crankbait 3. Lipless crankbait 4. Glide bait 5. Swimjig 6. Wakebait
  16. New to the board. I have searched for my topic but did not find it. If it's here please point me in the right direction. I've just started using larger lures with some success. lures like the whopper plopper 180 because I enjoy topwater..i use 50lb braid for the plopper but I just bought some 2oz blue fox super bou spinnerbaits and was wondering what type/size line you would suggest for larger spinnerbaits? thanks in advance
  17. Let me start this off by letting everyone know that I fish from the bank 90% of the time so I like to pack light for fishing trips. I also just started using baitcasting gear recently so I'm building my arsenal up. Anyways, I'm picking out a new rod and reel for myself for Christmas from my wife and I need some advice. I'm looking for a rod that will be good for reaction baits. I'd say 50% of my reaction bait fishing is lipless cranks, 25% squarebills, 20% spinnerbaits, and 5% chatterbait. What power and action would you guys recommend to cover all of these bases?
  18. Hi BR, I am from Toronto Canada and our fall fishing is coming to an end. But it is also a great time to grab discounted gear and upgrade arsenal. I am a huge Loomis fan and I was wondering which Loomis rod would be best for spinner bait and top water. I am most likely looking in the IMX/GLX line. Keep in mind I think I am leaning towards a 6'8 Medium Fast action rod, let me know what your thoughts are! Drunkentigerrr
  19. Doing a independent study for a college writing class, just would like some opinions on lures for fall fishing. Do you stick to certain brands or do they not matter? What Colors do you tend to throw more of when the water temp drops in the fall? Do you still throw top waters in the morning like you would in the summer? Also include your Name please and thank you.
  20. I recently bought a couple chatterbaits but haven't had much luck with them yet. What's everyone's experience with these VS spinnerbaits? I'm guessing any situation where I might throw a spinnerbait is where I'd throw a chatterbait? Is this pretty close to the mark? What's y'all's take? Also, does blade color matter much on them (e.g. shinny gold/silver VS flat black/brown)?
  21. Hey guys.. I need help with 2 baitcasters setups.. What type of rod and line do you suggest for: 1. Spinnerbait / Buzzbaits and 2. Top waters like Zara spooks, poppers thanks!
  22. Those of you who have confidence when throwing a spinnerbait, what color are you throwing? What size are you throwing? Are you using it as a search bait making long casts or target cast? Thanks! -Payton
  23. Recently, I bought a Cabela's jerbait/topwater rod and paired it with the pt Accurist baitcast reel, and was wondering if I would have problems throwing spinnerbaits, jigs, and soft plastics on it? Overall, I have other rods I can use if need be, but I would like to be able to keep on the move, while changing lures often if i am bank fishing. Will this rod give me problems if I use other lures besides jerbaits and topwaters? Or could I use this rod for a more universal setup. If there would be problems, what would they be and could I overcome them? So far, it doesn't seem to pose any problems as of yet, but I have been tuning in my reel, rather fishing it. Other than one buzz bait running on its side, I haven't had much issue but what do you guys think?
  24. Thinking about trying out some Black Nickel, Holographic, Iridescent, etc. blades to break up the monotony of what I typically put on a spinnerbait. I know things don't always look like they do on the internet when you finally get to see them in person, so I was hoping some of you could discuss what turned out good, what looked ridiculous, and what turned out to be favorites.
  25. From the album: Fishing

Fish caught on Pepper's spinnerbait using a Dobyns 765cb glass with braid, and 734c Champion with 15lb maxima mono. More than one way to skin a cat!
