  1. I have a Shimano curado reel and I would like to pair it with a curado rod. I found one casting curado 7'2 medium light extra fast rod on a very good sale. It is the only one this cheap likely because this is a niche rod category. I do utilize ned rigs often. Would anyone recommend this rod? What use cases would this rod Excell and what disadvantages would there be? I'm wondering if the extra fast aspect will make up for the medium light aspect of the rod making it slightly more versatile. Thanks in advance. Tight lines
  2. I am newish to fishing and recently purchased a KVD CC4 rod with a bc reel on FB Marketplace. I have recently fallen in love throwing chatterbaits with trailers, and read that the CC4 rod (made for medium cranking apparently) would be good for a blade jig rod as well. The rod is rated for 1/4-1/2 oz lures; today I went to my local pond, threw on a 3/8 oz chatterbait and a storm largo 3.5in and started casting. I noticed that the rod has a lot of bend to the top of it, like it's being loaded while casting. Am I overreacting or is my lure combo too heavy for the rod? I couldn't find what the actual plastic weighs unfortunately Thanks for any insight
  3. Well...not wanting to let this go but thinning the heard of some higher end gear. Selling a 7-6 Daiwa Steez " the one". Rod is in pristine condition and will come with rod sock and tags unattached. I no longer use PayPal so a check in the mail works. I'll ship well packaged and insured. $460 plus freight. I also have a new SC legend tournament bass 7'-4" MH M glass cranking rod (2022) model available (pics on request) $250 + freight
  4. I am look for the least expensive 1 pc rod and a reel combo that work like an expensive one would please message me and let me know
  5. Hi everyone, I recently broke my Googan Gold Muscle rod and am looking for a new rod for bass Anything under $200 is preferred I usually fish for Snakeheads and bass with frogs, swim jigs, and the occasional swim bait Another thing is a longer rod butt that’s split grip If you guys have any good suggestions please tell me
  6. Hey all, I’m replacing all my rods real soon as I really only have two good ones. All the other are either real nicked up or broke. I’m on the search for a real good rod spinning mainly but as well as bait casting. I’ve been looking at St. Croix mojo bass or the dobyns fury. Any suggestions? Would love to hear everyone’s 2 cents!
  7. What are your favorite soft baits that you won’t leave home without? How do you rig them? What rod do you throw them on?
  8. Hi fellow anglers I’m a banker slowly transitioning into getting more rods and getting into tourneys and one of the rods I’m lacking is a good dock flipping and or football jig rod I’ve been looking at a 744c champion but saw the 766 Fr on sale for 130$ witch is a heck of a discount due to being a bank fisherman I usually throw baits that don’t cover a ton of water but are high percentage when in front of fish like a shakeyhead jerkbait Texas rig but I’m looking for a designated jig rod I have been using a 733 as a jig spinner bait chatterbait swim jig rod but feel it’s a bit underpowered for football jigs flipping jigs and Carolina rigs the thing that scares me is getting a dc for 130$ does anyone own a dc 766fr or should I just spend the extra 100$ and go with a 744 jig special or a kayden 765 or 744 im kinda on the fence I have a few furies for moving baits and love them but like to go kayden and up with baits that rely on sensitivity hope to get some feedback thanks guys
  9. Hello all, I bought a Dobyns Champion DC703C rod roughly 2 months ago, and I'm loving it. It balances so well, it's the only rod I pitch with right now because I can do that all day without wearing out my wrist/knuckles/joints, ever! The only problem is that it's a little low on power than what I'm looking for, so I'm deciding to try and upgrade this one or grab a completely new rod. I'm liking Dobyns so much, I'm actually in the market for the Champion Extreme. Being the first $300+ rod, I don't want to make a blind purchase. And, I don't know of anywhere near here that I can actually hold a DX rod. So to the point, I'm stuck between getting a Extreme 704 vs 744. I want a longer rod, but the balance on my DC703 is crazy good, and I don't want to risk getting a DX744 if that extra length throws the balance off (meaning more tip heavy and tired hands). With the reel off, the DC703 (split grip) balances on my finger (parallel to the floor) close to about 5.25 inches off the top of the reel seat (right where the rod starts). Can someone with a DX744 post a picture or measure out the distance from the top of the reel seat to the balance point (reel off, and include handle type)? I feel that is the best way I can gauge how "tip heavy" the DX744 is compared to the DC703, if there is any difference at all. Thanks
  10. I'm looking for a new "multipurpose" rod/combo that could be used for walking baits, jerkbaits, or small crankbaits; mostly medium sized trebled baits under 1 1/2 oz. Also, do you think a curado 70 would work for these kinds of applications? It would be best if any rod suggestions were under or near 200.
  11. Hi guys, so with the black Friday coming, I was looking to buy a new combo for punching/flipping. For the rod, I was looking at the megabass levante Aklys rod or the daiwa tatula heavy flipping rod, do you have any insight on any of them? As for the reel, I tried the tatula line last summer and I loved it, so the tatula elite p/f seemed like a good option. What do you think? Do you have other recommendations? Much appreciated.
  12. Hey all, I’m looking to buy a new setup for my jig/chatter bait/spinner bait/some swim baits. I’m looking for a MH-MF rod and a reel to match it. Like the title says I would like to stay under the $180 range. Any recommendations?
  13. Good evening, I recently got back into fishing last year. I have a few questions regarding the correct rods to use for bass. Why are most recommended bass rod 6’8” to 7”4”? The lakes I fish in NY and going to be in PA have bass usually in the 2-5 lb range. I purchased a 7’1 St. Croix Bass Mojo med-heavy fast action, based off a recommendation from the guy at the tackle shop. Wouldn’t this rod be too heavy for that size bass? I am used to fishing an 6’6 ugly stick. Thanks
  14. What are everyone's thoughts about the new St Croix Victory series? Did you buy one? I'm purposely holding off until I read more reviews on them. I've heard mixed reviews. I'm in the market for a crankbait rod and I don't know whether I like the 7'2" MH Power Target Crank rod or if I should go with a MH Legend Glass rod instead... what have you heard about the new rod series (any model)? Do you own any Legend Glass rods? Or mojo glass? Should I go with the tried and true or try something new?
  15. Dumb question but I'm upgrading to a medium heavy fast action rod from a medium fast action rod and it seems alot more beefy, just wondering if it'll have any effect over feeling a fish biting.. Thanks
  16. I want to start taking up throwing swimbaits more regularly and I know by doing this I'll need the right rod. I'll mainly be throwing hard baits. For example I'll use the S waver both in the 200 and 168 size (3 1/2oz and 1 5/8oz), the Jackall Gantarel (2.5 oz), Spro BBZ-1 6" floating model (2oz) and I'll be trying the new Lucky Craft Real Ayu 178 (2 1/16oz). I think I have the right idea for a rod setup, but I wanted to make sure with the people on here that have much more experience using baits like these if they could help! Rod: I am thinking either the Okuma Citrix or the Guide Select Series Big Bait from Okuma as well. I was thinking the 7'11" in the Heavy power would be best (rated 1-6oz) since I don't plan on using anything over 6oz anytime soon. I'm leaning towards getting the Citrix, but it has a handle length of 18.5in compare to 24in on the Guide Select Series. I'm not sure if the handle length would make a huge difference when casting heavy baits so I would like some insight if the handle length would be a factor in what I should get. Reel: I am almost dead set on getting a Shimano Cardiff in the 300 size. It has a 5.8:1 Gear Ratio and brings in about 24inches per turn. I think this would be a good all around gear ratio for what I'm using because I tend to reel too fast anyways so this might have me slow it down more. If I were to need to use a faster reel, let me know. If I go faster I was thinking of the Lew BB2 wide spool in the 6.4:1 which brings in about 28" per turn. Line: Here is where I have the biggest question. I was thinking of going with 20lb P-line CXX, but with fishing in WI we have pike and Muskie and I was wondering if they could bite off some of my baits with that line. I have used my Flipping Rod with 65lb braid and a 15lb mono leader and I had lost a S waver 168 on a cast off so that kinda turns me away from using braid with swimbaits now. Also with the floating swimbaits like the BBZ I was wondering if the CXX would work for that too. Thanks in advance for all your input guys! I'm really looking forward to trying this out and catching some bigger fish if I can!
  17. Hey so i was thinking of getting a cheap/decent rod i don’t have to be so careful with/ when i travel with my family since we always pack a lot and the last two times my rod kept having to be pushed against a lot of stuff and it wasn’t protected, so i was wondering any good rods 70 and under, preferably two piece so i can fit it in the car better, i was looking at the kast king perigee 2 piece rod on amazon and it’s 53 bucks i believe, it has good reviews but wanted some more opinions
  18. So i just realized theres "glass" rods and then the "regular" rods whats the difference between the two? Im guessing the glass ones make the rod more flexible because of fiberglass instead of graphite or vise versa? EX: Shimano SLX 7’0” Medium Glass Casting Rod | SLXC70MG
  19. So i’ve noticed on my first line guide closest to the reel it has a tiny tiny fracture where it’s held against the rod... i spoke to the company and they’re willing for me to ship out my rod and receive a new one, but don’t all rods eventually get fractured from pressure when fishing? They said they’ll give me a discount on this rod if i wanted instead too. I just don’t wanna wait for a WHOLE new rod if it’s eventually gonna be like how it is after a few fishing trips
  20. What length should i get for my first baitcaster it’s probably gonna be my only one for a while and i’m gonna use it mainly for T rigs and a little bit of everything else, mostly top water and subsurface, and what action?
  21. Hello. I’m im looking for a rod reel combo that would be good to use to carry with me in my car. I drive a small Honda accord and right now I’m carrying a one piece abu Garcia vendetta 7’ 6” with a shimano slx dc 150 baitcaster however it has to go through the ski hole. When people are in my car they bump it and lean on it and I’ve noticed the eyelets on the rod are bending. I’m looking for something small and lightweight that will fit in my trunk out of the way but still has the strength and reliability to catch some nice bass. I like spinning reels but prefer baitcasters. Thanks for your imput and happy fishing?
  22. I believe the line rating for my rod is somewhere between 8-18 pounds. It does not specify mono or braided. If I put 30 pound mono or braided on that rod, will it break the rod? Sorry if it’s a dumb question I am new to this. Thank you in advance.
  23. My question is as follows: What do y’all use or think is a good size rod for a 6:3:1 baitcaster reel with the intent to use crankbaits on it such as the DT-6 and DT-10? I have heard a 7’ to 7’ 2” power: medium and action:moderate is a good rod for crankbait fishing. What are your thoughts or personal setups?
  24. A week or 2 ago i was fishing with my buddy and we pulled on our line to compare the amount of tip on our rods since i had an extra heavy and he had a heavy but after a few light pulls of my line a few inches of the tip snapped off. Anyone know why?
  25. Are Halo rods any good? I see a few complaints about them back in 2015 but are those still valid? or has the company improved? I am Between a Halo Black Widow or a Favorite Phantom Rigged. Any tips or info would be good.
