  1. Hey guys, I'm looking to find some new spots to fish in the outer Richmond area. I'm in Chesterfield and have fished Swift Creek Reservoir quite a bit, but am looking to expand my horizons. Hopefully y'all can help me out with some new spots. I fish from boat and shore. All input is greatly appreciated! Thanks
  2. Hey all, I'm Rob and I live southwest of Richmond, Virginia. We recently bought property on a 1,700 acre lowland reservoir so I've been reading a lot here for a couple of months and found a lot of great info about fishing during the spawn. Looking forward to reading more and finally being able to participate.
  3. Hey there guys, I joined back in 2015 but never introduced myself or even replied to any posts. I am a fisherman out of the Richmond, Va area. I focus on fishing for bass and for every species on the James river. I have been fishing since I was very young, mostly surf fishing in the outer banks and Carolina beaches for red drum, flounder, etc... Moved to Florida when I was a teenager and we had a great pond in our neighborhood that got me into bass fishing. I can recall fishing there daily with worms, lizards, pretty much anything that was included in the box of artificals. We pulled out some great bass from there and some huge catfish as well. Moved back to NC and did some brackish water fishing with bait for awhile. Then finally, I moved to Richmond at the age of 20. I started fishing again around age 21 and have been hooked since. Get it? Anyway I love this forum and will try and post some pictures of some great catches and info I have acquired by fishing around the Richmond area. I also do a lot of Kayak fishing. I hope this post reaches the Virginia forums, and if anyone ever wants to do some urban angling message me!
  4. Hey i'm at Fort Lee for a couple more months and was wondering if there are some good ponds that I need to check out? Preferablly within an hour drive. I did my homework and dug up some old forum and found some info. I checked out quite a few spots on this list and had just a little luck. Of the ponds I went to they all had a lot of fishing pressure. The best fishing I had up here is private ponds but I don't want to constantly bother them so I can fish. Fishing the dutch gap is a hit or a miss, but I did catch a 5lber our of there. I don't have a boat or a kayak right now so I/m stuck bank fishing. I'm pretty discouraged with lake fishing. I can't seem to catch much from the shore and I even rented a boat at lake chickahominy and went out for 6 hours and I threw everything I had from chatterbait, creature bait, spinner bait, poppers, whopper poppers, wacky rig, lizzards. I shore fished at Lake Lee and didn't catch anything, and I talked to a couple boaters and they said it was a slow day. Tommorow I'm going to go check out Amelia lake and shore fish. If y'all know any good ponds around here please let me know.
  5. Hello, my name is Kendal. I've been fishing most of my life but have really picked up and become more serious. My dad has been a bass fisherman for as long as I can remember and I guess it rubbed off. I am also a female, so I am quite the minority. I work at GreenTop in Hanover and I love it there it is such an amazing place. I'm still just trying to find my place and I guess I do bank fishing the most since I can't afford a boat. I do have a kayak I've been out on the James river and caught some nice fish. I've also fished an old golf course private pond which is really awesome but the hike is rough. Hoping to learn a lot of info now that I will be able to read all of this information! Kendal
  6. Does anyone have any experience smallmouth fishing around Bell Isle? I feel like it would be pretty good I remember there being some decent size holes to the left of the foot bridge as you are walking to the island and I have seen some large fish over towards the walkway to Browns Island as well as in the Canal there. Whether they were largemouth or smallmouth I'm not sure.
  7. Hello all! I am new member from the Richmond, VA area (Midlothian to be exact). I have fished on and off for the past few years, but have recently fallen back in love with it. I'm 26 years old and work from home in the I.T. field. Needless to say, I enjoy the flexibility of being able to fish when my schedule is clear for the day! I don't own or a boat or kayak (though I do plan to buy a kayak soon) so I am limited to bank fishing. I look forward to meeting and fishing with others from the area! P.S. for those with boats in the area, I will exchange beer and gas money for trips out to fish with you! I've found that some of the best fishing is done by boat in the area.
  8. Hello all! I'm a somewhat new angler (2 years) and am HOOKED on fishing. The only problem is that there seem to be few public places with decent fish. All of the local ponds and lakes seem to be private property belonging to some HOA. Where are some decent places to fish that won't kick you out for doing so?
  9. Hello all, Amateur fisher here. Just starting out and very excited about getting out there! I currently live in Richmond, Virginia, specifically the Short pump area. I do not own a boat so I am assuming my fishing will be limited to shoreline for the time being. I love being out on the water and WILL own a boat in the future, but it's not quite in the cards right now. Anyway, got family coming into town this weekend and we want to get out there and start fishing. I have read a lot about all the lakes at Innsbrook and looked at the VA DGIF website for the list of lakes and parks. All good information there but wanted to get some opinions from people that have actually fished these spots. Any information like the best times to go (i.e., really early in the am, mid morning, etc..), best spots around the lakes, suggestions for different places, suggestions for equipment on small lakes/ponds etc. Thanks in advance for any of your help! I look forward to becoming an active member on this site and posting experiences, and pictures! -Bryan
  10. I am new to tournament fishing and I was looking to join an affordable Bass Club in the Richmond, VA area. Any help anyone could give would be greatly appreciated. I am not looking to spend a bunch of money until I figure out if tournament fishing is really for me. I am looking to broaden my knowledge and to also help with education and conservation. Thanks!! Jack
  11. Hi guys, I've been looking at bass resource for a while and just now created a account. I've been bass fishing for around four years now and it's not a hobby to me but a lifestyle. I hope I can give advice and learn from others- Robert
