  1. Hey All, I'm thinking of making a trip to MS from April 24-28th and will be within an hour and a half to 2 hours of Ross Barnett Reservoir or "the rez". Does anyone have any good bass guides they'd recommend for down there? I thought about bringing my boat, but I just have a 17.5" Bass Tracker and I know that's a huge lake, way bigger than any I've fished in my home state of Nebraska.
  2. Lake Varner Info: Hello to all of the incredibly intelligent and knowlegeable fisherpersons of Bass Resource! I have recently moved to GA and the closest and best fishing choice for me has become Lake Varner Reservoir. I am trying to compile as much information about this lake as possible because I will be fishing here routinely, once per week. If you guys have any favorite spots or baits for Varner I would love to hear about it. So far I have caught schooling bass on an 1/8 ounce jig head with a 3" white curly tail zoom grub, the location was in the North part of the reservoir near the upper end. I could be totatlly off here but it appeared to me that there is very little grass/hydrilla and the water level is extremely low. I really look forward to hearing from you guys! Michael Autry
  3. Hello I've been fishing for about two years, with the first year fishing rivers for trout, but once I got a bass on a fly line, I had to get in to real bassin. Anyways, I am fishing Lanier all the time as I have a slip there for my boat. I fish about 4 times a week. Recently I've been doing terrible, catching only one medium sized spotted bass(Lanier is full of spots, barely any LM). I caught him in about 4-5 feet of water behind a huge rocky point. My question to ya'll is what can I do to up my odds in winter fishing? I've heard that the fish are more lethargic and won't chase the lure as much. I've been told that the fish are transitioning from the back of the creeks to relating to deep water lumber and other places. My question is what whould you do to put more fish in the boat? What tactics would ya'll use on this southern 55 degree resovoir to catch some more fish more frequently? I've been using spinnerbaits, jig n pigs, and some Crankbaits, as well as some suspending jerk baits, should I be throwing worms on a drop shot, shaky heads and other T rigs to get the worms down deep? Any help would be helpful. Thanks!!

    Catfish

    From the album: Caught 'Em

My personal best catfish (15~ lb) caught out of a reservoir in Orange County, Califronia while fishing for bass. Caught on a jig!
  5. Howdy guys! A friend and I went fishing Gibbons Creek Reservoir this past weekend (Friday and Saturday), and I decided to get a little early spring fishing report out about it. Overall, the fishing was very slow, we only landed about 9 fish over the two days (with a couple others that threw the hook before we got them in the boat). It was very windy both days, with sustained winds about 20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph. Early in day one, my friend landed a very nice largemouth that we ballparked around 8 lbs (scale's battery was dead). That really got our hopes up, but it would be the biggest fish of our trip by far. That big one was caught with a T-rigged trick worm, but for the most part we couldn't get bites on plastics. As for quantity of bites, spinnerbaits did the best for us (chartreuse and orange/white). Crankbaits also caught a couple fish. As a whole, this weekend was more of an example why the sport is called 'fishing' rather than 'catching'. However, a slow day on the water beats any day sitting at home! It was also disappointed that half of the lake was very difficult because of stumps just below the surface of the water. We didn't even try to get back there because we didn't want to risk damaging the boat.
  6. Just looking for some friendly advice as to areas to concertate on, Lures, colors, etc. I haven't fished the Reservoir in over 10 years, just getting back into fishing actually. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! P.s. Be renting a Boat at Fountain Head.
  7. Just though I would add this lake for any information or fishing reports that people would like to post.
  8. This is my first year fishing a local reservoir, flooded in the 1950's. While asking a local advice for striper fishing, he mentioned it wouldn't take long for me to find the underwater spring heads (and thus the stripers). I figure this lake feature would apply to large and smallmouth bass during the warmer season if they're looking for cooler water. Does anyone have advice on how to find/identify these underwater springs? I've got a good lake map showing the old river channels, depths, foundations, etc,. Is this something even worth looking for regarding bass fishing? Appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks, Bill
