  1. I've noticed there has yet to be a discussion about the new Shimano Vanford 2024. If any of the shimano heads out there have an opinion on the upgrades that have been made to this new version, please share. Additionally, what use cases would you reccomend this reel for and in what size/gear ratio. I'm trying to decide on the perfect one to choose from on digitakas website as, I believe, there are some jdm specific versions available there. Which are jdm specific, and what benefits if any are there to one. I'll be using it for freshwater bass and crappie, likely in the 2500 to 3000 size with lighter lures like ned rigs in mind but also ideally versatile enough for general use. Something to fill the gap that my curado mgl 151 can't. Tight lines folks.
  2. Hey guys, I am trying my hand at cleaning and lubricating my reels and I am having trouble with one in particular. It is an older browning midas, Model number MI1000HL. I can't get the handle off and I also can't get the spool out. I got the side plate off and the spool comes out a little but not all the way. There is also no nut or cover or anything on the handle loke other reels. here is a picture of the model I am working with. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!
  3. Randomly, my spinning reel just started spinning backwards. It has no anti reversal switch for as far as I can see and it did not normally do this. Does anyone have any solutions to fix this?
  4. i have had my daiwa tatula ct 100hs for less than a month now and after using it in heavy rain for 1 day. I also used it in salty conditions in a bay but washed it off straight after. Is there a chance that it rusted or something got in the gears? Ive checked the spool and side plate but im afraid to open the reel side plate for fear of losing pieces or not putting it back together correctly. Is it easy to take apart the plates and reassemble?
  5. To start off I’m a stats nerd in spinning reels. I tend to fish more saltwater so I know all about what each spinning reel is designed for. However I started bass fishing for bass recently and was wondering if some expert here could help me understand what each of the following reels are meant for? Also how do the different models (I/k) affect the performance. Chronarch Aldebaran Bantam Metanium Antares Exsence Scorpion Also any recommendations y’all prefer? Looking for a long casting, fast retrieve/hg, 150 sized reel as a do everything rod. Hoping to find a used one for under $200. I won’t be throwing large swim baits so most of the stuff will be from 1/8 to 7/8. Would an MGL be too lightweight based? Shimano or Daiwa would be preferred. Thanks
  6. Recently I tried Lake Trout jigging. People stated that all I needed was my bass gear and I'd be set. They were right for the rods but the reels failed me. Wherein the spinning reels worked great and had plenty of line (not a surprise as spinning reels naturally hold more line than bass baitcasting reels) the bass baitcasting reels did not. Using my Abu Garcia Revo Rockets which were spooled to the max they ran out of line at 180 feet. I'm using 30lbs. Power Pro braid and according to the chart that should be 140 yards/420 feet of line! Even if it was maxed out at 50lbs. line it should have 100 yards/300 feet of line. Here is a pic of my reel. Do Reel manufacturers lie about their reels line capacity?
  7. I'm looking at getting 2 reels. One is a larger spinning reel for lake trout fishing down to 150 feet and up to 2oz or even a little more jig. The other is a micro casting reel for a shorter casting rod for jerkbait fishing. What's better, Kastking or Piscifun? And what models? Thanks in advance.
  8. My spinning reel makes a clicking noise at the lowest and highest points when my spool goes up and down. I saw on another thread that its from an screw on this oscillating piece that is loose, so I tried tightening it and turns out it was tight, so I don't even know why its clicking but anyways when trying to put it back together I had this spring that I needed to put in place and I cant get it into place and I just want to know if anyone knows how to do it. I even bent the spring trying to put it back into place. I somehow always try fixing something little and I make it way worse. The spring is highlighted in the photo and the area it needs to go has an arrow pointing towards it.
  9. I am look for the least expensive 1 pc rod and a reel combo that work like an expensive one would please message me and let me know
  10. Ok guys I’m interested to hear others opinions on this. You allowed 1 hardbait 1 softbait and 1 rod and reel or 1 rod 1 reel and 1 bait co what would they be for me I would have to go with dobyns, 13 fishing, and strike king, the only thing I would have to buy would be some berkley stunnas and megabass visions as strike king doesent currently make a nice sexy thin twitch style jerkbait
  11. I found an old Abu Garcia Ambassador 4600 CB in my shed, my granddad had given it to me. It’s from the 70s or 80s. It’s gear ratio is 4.7:1, what could I use this reel for?
  12. Hello peeps, I just bought a new jerkbait rod and settled on a Dobyns kayden 610-4cb the struggle now is I need a reel, I was torn between A curado k and a 13 fishing concept a2. However, I found a curado dc for 200$. Does anyone own a dc, for me longevity is important and the dc seems like it would take away some of the durability. i have owned some older curados and loved them but the concept a2 looks sweet as well and I’m thinking about it for a jig rod reel with that 25lbs of drag. However I have heard the curado k feels more powerful bc of the gears. Does anyone own these reels if so do you prefer the dc or the k for lighter baits, have you had any issues with reliability on the dc, and what are the thoughts on the concept a2 ?
  13. I'm looking for a new "multipurpose" rod/combo that could be used for walking baits, jerkbaits, or small crankbaits; mostly medium sized trebled baits under 1 1/2 oz. Also, do you think a curado 70 would work for these kinds of applications? It would be best if any rod suggestions were under or near 200.
  14. Hi guys, so with the black Friday coming, I was looking to buy a new combo for punching/flipping. For the rod, I was looking at the megabass levante Aklys rod or the daiwa tatula heavy flipping rod, do you have any insight on any of them? As for the reel, I tried the tatula line last summer and I loved it, so the tatula elite p/f seemed like a good option. What do you think? Do you have other recommendations? Much appreciated.
  15. Having issues with my Fuego 2500 line lay. The line is stacks up high. Now, I have the extra spacers that come with it but am having trouble getting the spool bearing off. It doesn’t seem to just slide up like the older models. Anyone have any experience with these newer LT’s? Someone enlighten me..
  16. Hi guys, my curado 200i just broke so I'm in need for a new reel. So far, I have a: topwater/jerkbait/weightless plastic rod (6'8 M/F St-croix bassX) paired with a daiwa tatula 100 frog/punching/swimbait rod (7'10 H/F St-croix bassX) paired with a daiwa tatula 200 and my jig/chatterbait/texas rig (7'1 MH/F st-croix mojobass) which used to be paired with a curado 200i I already looked up on Daiwa website and the Elite, Elite P/F, Tatula 150 as well as their tatula sv tws all look interesting but can't figure out which one would be more appropriate for the use. I really like Daiwa's breaking system but I'm still open to suggestions.
  17. Hey guys, I'm looking for a solid and versatile reel for my punching set up, any suggestions? Specifically, I'm ONLY interested in a baitcasting reel that has a "flipping switch". These seem to be impossible to find, but an example of a reel with a flipping switch is the Lew's Super Duty G. Also, I heard that Abu Garcia's black max and silver max have them in specific models. Please help me and list some suggestions, I've scoured the internet and can't find many options. Finding a reel with a flipping switch is my main concern. What do you guys know (P.S. This is unimportant but im throwing it on a 7'3 Okuma Scott Martin Signature TCS Casting Rod Heavy, Fast action because I like the way Scott martin fishes and I'm using it in a kayak so i can't really work a legit 7'11 Ex Heavy flippin stick.) What are the best baitcasters with a flipping switch option? Idc if it's $20 or $400 Thanks!!!!!!
  18. Hey all, I’m looking to buy a new setup for my jig/chatter bait/spinner bait/some swim baits. I’m looking for a MH-MF rod and a reel to match it. Like the title says I would like to stay under the $180 range. Any recommendations?
  19. Hello, guys, I'm on the market for new reel for lures around 1/4 oz, some of them maybe even less than 1/4. I.e. Keitech 2.8". I made my research and found that Lew’s Custom Lite SLP is one of the top recommended reels for such things, however, I didn't see anything bad about it. I mean I read a lot of benefits, but nobody tells about negative moments. Is it really perfect? Why I may want to buy it? Or Daiwa Alphas SV TW is my preferred choice for that? And again, why? Thank you beforehand for your opinion and feedback!
  20. Hey guys I have a Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier baitcasting reel and I am having some issues with it. I have had it about a year and I have never had a problem with it until now. All of a sudden it will not engage and reel in my line. I click the button throw it out and let the bait hit then water but when I go to reel it back in won't engage to reel in my line. I am turning the reel and the line threader thing is moving but the spool is not turning. If I hit it hard on the side a few times it will click and engage and I can reel it back in. Any advice on how to fix this problem would be a great help! Also what do you guys think of the Pro Qualifier. It is the first and only baitcaster I have ever owned and until now I have loved it. Thanks!
  21. Hey guys what reel would you guys pair with either A. P5 Super Destroyer or B. P5 MadBull and why? Thanks in advance.
  22. About to buy my first spinning reel for finesse fishing. (ned rigs, drop shot, etc.) I'm kind of leaning towards the new Pflueger President XT. What are the advantages of the XT over the regular version? It'll be paired with a Shimano Clarus spinning rod.
  23. Hey guys, I want to start by saying I have done many of my own reels already with excellent results and right now this reel has me stumped. I bet all my Northern brethren are getting ready to do what I am doing or have already done it, but that is a deep reel cleaning. So far I have done my Shimano Citica, Daiwa Fuego and Lews TPG. I am in the process of putting my two Speed Spool LFS reels back together and have come across both reels being rough/geary. Yes I have greased the gears and No I have not over greased it, for some reason no matter what I do these two reels feel rough and all my others feel smooth as butter, same with the Lews TPG. Now I have had these reels for a little over a year now and use them quite frequently (2 or 3 times a week) when I can. Would it be possible that the gear teeth have already worn out?! After lubing one of the reels in question it feels buttery smooth for about 2 outings before the geary/rough feeling comes back. Now I know you shouldn't have to re-lube your gears every other time you go fishing. That would just get annoying and my 3 other reels do not have this problem and can go months without re-lubrication. So I am hoping you guys have some suggestions or better yet fixes that will help me out. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  24. I want to start taking up throwing swimbaits more regularly and I know by doing this I'll need the right rod. I'll mainly be throwing hard baits. For example I'll use the S waver both in the 200 and 168 size (3 1/2oz and 1 5/8oz), the Jackall Gantarel (2.5 oz), Spro BBZ-1 6" floating model (2oz) and I'll be trying the new Lucky Craft Real Ayu 178 (2 1/16oz). I think I have the right idea for a rod setup, but I wanted to make sure with the people on here that have much more experience using baits like these if they could help! Rod: I am thinking either the Okuma Citrix or the Guide Select Series Big Bait from Okuma as well. I was thinking the 7'11" in the Heavy power would be best (rated 1-6oz) since I don't plan on using anything over 6oz anytime soon. I'm leaning towards getting the Citrix, but it has a handle length of 18.5in compare to 24in on the Guide Select Series. I'm not sure if the handle length would make a huge difference when casting heavy baits so I would like some insight if the handle length would be a factor in what I should get. Reel: I am almost dead set on getting a Shimano Cardiff in the 300 size. It has a 5.8:1 Gear Ratio and brings in about 24inches per turn. I think this would be a good all around gear ratio for what I'm using because I tend to reel too fast anyways so this might have me slow it down more. If I were to need to use a faster reel, let me know. If I go faster I was thinking of the Lew BB2 wide spool in the 6.4:1 which brings in about 28" per turn. Line: Here is where I have the biggest question. I was thinking of going with 20lb P-line CXX, but with fishing in WI we have pike and Muskie and I was wondering if they could bite off some of my baits with that line. I have used my Flipping Rod with 65lb braid and a 15lb mono leader and I had lost a S waver 168 on a cast off so that kinda turns me away from using braid with swimbaits now. Also with the floating swimbaits like the BBZ I was wondering if the CXX would work for that too. Thanks in advance for all your input guys! I'm really looking forward to trying this out and catching some bigger fish if I can!
  25. So i went to a party and someone literally spilled soup on my fishing reel and rod that was tucked away in the corner and the soup became gelatinous on the reel and rod, for the rod i just rinsed it down and dried it off and for the reel i rinsed it and opened the brakes and rinsed it down too, but somehow there’s some stuck in the handle, but i’m not sure if i rinsed it all out, anything else i should do, to be safe?
