  1. What are some of your favorite Rapala lures whether it be discontinued or currently available? What color patterns do you like?
  2. A year ago I picked up a Rapala walleye series crankbait rod 7 FT 1 medium moderate action. Do any of you guys out there know much about this Rod or anything at all. Plan on using it for bass but I wasn't sure if I should step up to St Croix Mojo glass cranking rod.
  3. For those of you that regularly use more than one, how do you decide which Rapala jerkbait to throw between a Husky Jerk, an X-Rap, a Shadow Rap, a Shadow Rap Shad, and a RipStop? Do you try more than one when you feel a jerkbait is the best presentation for the conditions or do you move spots or change presentations first? I had generally considered the Husky Jerk if I wanted a more subtle action and the X-Rap if I wanted more action or to work it more aggressively but now I’m looking at those plus the Shadow Raps and Shadow Rap Shads I’ve accumulated and having a hard time deciding where they fit in and I haven’t even tried a RipStop yet.
  4. I have been a loyal Rapala supporter for many years but am finally ready to branch out and try other brands and models. What is the best competition to the x-rap slashbait/jerkbait?
  5. Hello everyone, Has anyone used the RipStop yet? It looks different then your typical jerkbaits.
  6. Hey Guys, Wondering what the difference is between the X Rap, Shadow Rap and the Flat Rap. All seem pretty similar and I wanted to know what some of the differences, uses and your preferences are. Thanks!
  7. Looking at the Rapala lures and there are a dizzying amount to choose from. Trying to decide which to order. BX DT Ripping Rap Scatter Rap Shad Rap Shadow Rap X-Rap Preferences and/or suggestions? I wish to add some lures for different parts of the water column from 2' to deep.
  8. Hi guys, This is my first post on here! A very exciting day for me since I've been using the site a lot before this and never being able to contribute. Anyways, I am 15 and jobless and looking for a spinning rod I can chuck some senkos on this summer. Preferably in the 40-60 ish price range, although some slight exceptions could be made. Also, the length and action should be about 6'6-7'0 and med extra fast. Some rods I have been looking at have been the Shimano Sellus, Fenwick Eagle and HMX, Berkley Lightning shock, and some BPS rods. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks, and have a good day -Justen
  9. Is anyone curious about the new Rapala that is about to be released later this month at the 2016 Bassmaster Tournament? Do you have any idea what it could be ? Is there something that you would like Rapala to release?
  10. Hey guys, I was thinking about picking up some x-raps. I've heard good things and they have some awesome colors (Hot Pink/Clown) that I think would work really well WI smallies. I was just wondering what size you guys prefer. I was leaning towards the 08, it's a bit on the small side at 3 1/8" and a 1/4oz. I know it has a weight transfer system but would this cast well on a baitcaster? p.s I'll be throwing it on an M/F Okuma Helios rod/reel combo rated 1/4 - 5/8oz. Thanks!
  11. I don't know if anyone else has seen this yet, but Rapala is releasing their HD colors on a bunch of their baits at iCast today. The DT is my go to crank, so I found this interesting. Just thought I'd share.
  12. Would tying a rapala knot/non-slip loop knot ON TO a split ring give any advantages for crankin'? Or is the loop and split ring both too much? What about jerk baits.. loop knot or improved clinch?
  13. Hello Everyone, I've been fishing for about 10 years now pretty seriously, and I'm ready to make a solid investment into a jerk bait dedicated rod/reel/line set-up - I'm looking for advice in what would make a great set-up. Here are some important details for those who would be willing to give advice: My Height: 5'10" Primary fishing waters: Freshwater - Lakes of varying size (Pennsylvania) 90% from shore or wading/10% from boats, docks, or piers - most waters are stained or occasionally clear Primary Lures: Rapalas ~ Original Floaters, Husky Jerks, X-Raps, Countdowns, and several other styles; several soft jerk baits. Fish species targeted: LM Bass, SM Bass, Striped Bass, Pickerel, Muskie, Walleye, and Perch What I'm looking for in the setup: MUST BE A SPINNING ROD & REEL COMBO - I'm looking for a combo that can provide both vigorous and subtle action, have the ability to have a deep cast, is not heavy will allow me to work all day without causing stress to tendons - and not tire me out (I work both from the side twitching and classic up and down), can handle the load of a 10+ aggressive fish. Additionally, I'm not brand loyal. I am expecting to invest some $$$ in the set-up. Please help.
  14. Does anyone have a favorite or go to lure that they use? Mine would be and original floating rapala in "silver" and firetiger. Or a hula popper or jitterbug in a frog color. Seems nothing can really match a rapala since they are very life like and swim great in the water. And topwaters are so fun to fish and produce great numbers.
  15. Took a trip to my cabelas today. Can't post a pic because the files are too large but I'll list it below: Livetarget Frog in 1/4oz and in emerald/brown Cabelas brand twin tail grubs in pumpkin pepper Cabelas brand 1/4oz unprinted jigheads Rapala dt4 crankbaits in silver Rapala original floating f-9 in silver 2 packs of gamakatsu Ewg 3/0 offset shank hooks Anyone else get any nice deals today?

  17. I have never used a crankbait before, but I am thinking about trying them out. I have a few questions about them, though. I will be fishing from shore, so shallow diving baits are probably my best bet, but: What type of bait should I use(fat body, longer body, round or squarebill) What is a good brand when to use them
  18. I'm honestly not sure what the goal of this post is, nor how well I can still form a grammatically correct sentence after the reduction of multisyllabic words in my vocabulary (and steep increase in my five letter word vocabulary) that I underwent in Army basic training. Including reception, it had been more than 11 weeks since I had gone fishing. Although based on how long the days felt, one would think that all that army funding that certainly wasn't allocated towards our crappy hand-me-down gear, was used to build a time lengthening device. Not having anything to read actually helped mitigate the pain of being exposed to information about the newest Rapala I was missing, and through some amazing act of willpower, which most likely entailed more laziness and a deep yearning to hear music than actual willpower, for the thirty minutes we usually were given our phones a week if we were perfect, model little G.I Joe's, I managed to force myself away from this website. Being as Bass Resource is so laden with nostalgia of all the fishing gear I left behind that when I close my eyes I can almost smell the sweet (to use this term lightly) fragrance of Powerbait and can nearly feel a treble hook caught in my hand...or that one time, as a child, that my back cast went to far and almost tore more than my shorts. Luckily I knew that pain probably meant I shouldn't cast forward. Anyway, I'm now far away for Fort Sill Oklahoma and the entertaining artillery strikes that I know would have been both my saving grace and biggest antagonist in my fishing adventures, should I have had the opportunity to go fishing. It would be my salvation for the convenience of providing me with an excuse as to why the fish are spooked, due giant HEAT rounds that I can even feel the shockwave from, and my most extreme annoyance for the frustrated fits of profanity laden, boot stomping that I would have felt justified in executing, being that I could blame artillerymen, that would actually be the thing terrifying bass...it's a vicious cycle. Now I am at fort Huachuca Arizona, at AIT, and in a few weeks I will be afforded the freedom to do such things as go fishing or hunting, and though you can lease the gear to do so from a sportsman center, my noble pride...and complete inability to notice or catch the money flying out of my wallet at light speed as I walk through a Cabela's convincing myself with the fervor of a drug addict or a priest that I need this or that bait to live virtuously, laden with the burden of a massive stringer of bass (about which I will be exceptionally humble of course.) Simply put, it would seem that I have lost the ability to fathom what it feels like to have a fat bass in my hand, to have a long black pole that isn't the barrel of a rifle...and most of all, to walk like I have all the time in the world. So help me remember what that's like. Tell me how your season is going, about the trials and tribulations of your longest haitus of fishing, or if you are military then about your deployments...especially if you were sent to a place where the only water was buried under dunes that mockingly flowed like water. Hell, tell me your poor ice-locked sons of guns about your cabin fever...because given that I spent the better part of my winter seasons losing my already frail grip on sanity in Illinois winters or succumbing to OCD-like repetitive, stubborn behaviors in tiny Louisiana, chocolate milk farm ponds...it'll make it all seem fair that I now get to fish while it's your turn to deal with the ice; (unless you're one of the homicidal, psychopaths we call ice fisherman)
  19. I just got a bunch of lures from a guy at work and I was able to identify all but one, here are the characteristics. -RAPALA -JERKBAIT -3 inches -2 trebles -TINY TINY LIP/BILL -RATTLE THAT ROLLS FREELY FROM THE FRONT TO THE BACK OF THE LURE CAUSING WHATEVER SIDE ITS ON TO SINK WHILE THE OTHER SIDE FLOATS (nose down or nose up) I havent seen a jerkbait with a lip this small, and its not broken. I'm curious to know what it is, I hope this helps lol feel free to post photo's of what you think it could be.
  20. Lets talk muskies how do I catch them were and when what's a good starter fishing pole and bait.....
  21. Hello, Recently, I received the "Rapala Mini Hook Remover" as a gift. According to the package, it is great for catch and release fishing; however, I could only find a few reviews of this product online. Have you ever used this device before? If you have, does it function more efficiently than needle nose pliers? Down below is a link the product on Amazon.com. Any information regarding usage (Pros/Cons) of this device would be helpful!! http://www.amazon.com/Rapala-Hook-Remover-Inch-Mini/dp/B002PIP73A
  22. Looking to purchase Old Rapala Fat Raps (sfr 5 or 7) shallow runner only. If anyone has any in good condition and interested in selling I would appreciate it. It's my fathers favorite bait and I can't find any. Thank you!
  23. Well are those monster 5 ounce bulldogs really the best musky and pike bait you can buy because I have had much better much better luck on small jointed blue rapalas over the course of 1 week this summer I caught a 32 inch musky, a 25 inch pike,a 22 inch pike and over 20 bass on 1 lure. And I got to experience all these species instead of throwing a 5 ounce bait and catching nothing.Let me know what you think.
