  1. so recently the Abu Garcia revo premier gen 4 came on sale for 50% off normally 300usd now 150usd at bass pro. i was about to order the lews tournament pro speed spool lfs but the reel caught my attention. anyone have thoughts on either of thee reels?
  2. For the past couple weeks I've been trying out the Abu Garcia Revo SX gen4 Baitcaster. I chose to go with the 6.6:1 RH. The reel retails in the $160 price range which in my opinion it a pretty good price for this reel. It has the looks, the feel, and the function to be a higher priced reel. It has the two break system which was really nice and very easy to adjust. There is a lever on the bottom of the side plate. You drop the lever turn the side plate a quarter turn to the right and plate comes off exposing the internal brakes which were east to adjust and made a big difference when casting. The other nice thing about the lever to remove the side plate, you can easily remove your spool which make things very very convienant for tying your line or cleaning. My other reels you have to unscrew the bar in front pull that out, remove the side plate, well you get the hint. It's as simple as drop the lever, quarter turn, and there's everything you need. That was well thought out! I put this reel on my KVD Tour crankbait rod and this reel and rod launched the crankbaits a mile. The brake system is so effective I'd made quite a few adjustments because I'm not used to such an effective braking system I was over adjusting (user error). Some slight adjustments and I was launching lures like a pro. It handled the crankbait without and issue, felt really smooth, and didn't wear me out. The next time out I put it on a MH Abu rod I used for throwing soft plastics. This time I made subtle adjustments and quickly had it tuned for my plastics, and worked great. The drag gave me no issues. The handle size was in my wheel house, I prefer a slightly bigger handle, and this was perfect. As stated earlier $160 is a really good price for this reel. It's well thought out, smooth, and convenient for spooling, adjusting brakes, and cleaning. Abu Garcia has a winner with the Revo SX gen4! 12poundbass
  3. First post on here. My current setups include a 7ft MH mojo bass and a 6:1 tatula and a 6:1 Lews tourney pro g with 6'8" bass x mh and a 7ft m crankin stick and 6:1 ardent reel. Tatula has braid and is used for spinnerbaits and topwaters and does worm and jigs right now and bass x is my fathers so hardly use it and just got crankbait rod. I don't punch or anything being from ohio and fishing portage lakes. What should i use it for and what rod and line for it. (7:1 left hand revosx)
  4. 5. I'm looking to buy some new gear for punching. I'm just looking for some generally recommendations on rods, reels, hooks, etc. I've really grown to like the Invoker lineup from Ark Rods, so Im leaning towards their 7'4" Mag Heavy rod. However, I've heard countless people recommend the Tatula rods, so I'm looking hard at their 7'4" Frog rod. As far as reels go, I don't really know what to go for. I've thought about snatching up another Revo STX 3 while they're cheap, but again, I keep looking at the Tatula lineup. What are the key differences in all of the models? There are so many options, between the SV, 100, CT & Type R, it's a little overwhelming. Which better suits the purpose of punching?
  6. What rod should I get to pair with my abu garcia revo sx im going to use it for crankbaits, and my budget is max $100
  7. Hi I purchased an Abu Garcia Revo MGX (new) in May 2017, i bearly use it, but it is starting to have problems, the reel handle suddenly turns heavy when i rotate my hand to the left in order to make to walk the dog, with the rel handle pointing upwards, thats one, the other is that i have 1 orra sx, 2 revo sx and 1 revo stx and all cast farther than the MGX, i already tried defferent lures, settings, rods etc.. with no different results, any idea? thanks
  8. Does anybody know why the revo sx is selling at a discounted price at basspro shops? Just wondering if it is going to be discontinued or there will be a new revo generation to replace it.
  9. Recently made a purchase via eBay for a used gen 3 Abu Garcia Revo S. Once received and opened, to my surprise this particular reel was manufactured in China. My other Revo S and SX were both made in Korea. As well as all of the other Revo S reels i've looked at in a retail store. Called Abu Garcia directly for confirmation but they weren't definitive by simply claiming many of their reels are made in China, Korea and sometimes Sweden. They are not able to authenticate unless the reel is sent in for service. Basically, they were not helpful. I'm not necessarily concerned I purchased a knock-off or fake reel. Because after comparing the two, they are virtually identical, down to the part colors inside. There also doesn't seem to be anywhere to buy one online anyway. So that mostly eases my concerns regarding authenticity. On the other hand, this eBay Revo S just does NOT seem nearly as quiet as my other Revo S. With the drag set loose and the tension knob turned off, I'll give the handle a good rip and all I can hear is the gears start to mesh and then quickly spinning around - i can even hear a slight tick as it goes around too. The best way to describe it is like hearing one of those old school wind-up toy cars that you had to drag back to charge and let rip. The faster you drag back, the more you hear the gears wind. Similar sounds are coming from this reel but just not as exaggerated. Overall the reel is in perfect physical condition and seems super smooth. I've opened it up, cleaned/de-greased most of the parts. Re-greased and oiled things up with Ardent butter etc, carefully put it back together but it still gives off more sound than my other Revo S. I've even opened up both reels to compare parts and placement with no luck. Maybe I've overlooked a part that may be out of place. I just cant figure it out. Will try to post a video soon. Sorry for rambling.. anyone out there with Revo service experience that has advice or an opinion? I would greatly appreciate your feedback.
  10. Does anyone have an Abu Garcia Revo Beast? Just wondering if they are any good before I drop 350 on it. Thanks.
  11. This is my first bass using the flipping an pitching technique! Thanks to Glenn on YouTube I've improved my fishing.
  12. Hi guys, This is my first post on here! A very exciting day for me since I've been using the site a lot before this and never being able to contribute. Anyways, I am 15 and jobless and looking for a spinning rod I can chuck some senkos on this summer. Preferably in the 40-60 ish price range, although some slight exceptions could be made. Also, the length and action should be about 6'6-7'0 and med extra fast. Some rods I have been looking at have been the Shimano Sellus, Fenwick Eagle and HMX, Berkley Lightning shock, and some BPS rods. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks, and have a good day -Justen
  13. Im looking to buy a new Abu Garcia reel and I am set between the Revo MGX or the Revo Rocket. I realize the Rocket is a faster reel and 50 dollars less but other than that are there any differences between the two. -BeenReel
  14. I am thinking about upgrading from the Abu Garcia Revo SX to the Revo Rocket. I realize the gear ratio is much faster but is it worth the $300?
  15. Picked up the older, heavier abu revo sxhs for $100 new. Seems like a lot of reel for the money. Spooled it up with 50lb 832 and stuck it on my 7'6" mh veritas. I'll be using it for frogging and maybe try some punching and flippin with it too. Now the question: How'd i do?
  16. I'm looking to get my first baitcast set up. I'm debating between the lews speed spool or tournament speed spool, the shimano curado, shimano citicia, and the bass pro shops pro qualifier. What are your thoughts?
  17. Once these Duckett Ghost rods come out, I'm looking for a few options to try on these rods. There is something about Abu that really draws me to their products, but I never really bought them. I have last generations Quantum Accurist, which I like a good bit. It's almost like you have to be an idiot to get a backlash with it. So yeah seeing which one you would prefer, I already know how good Lew's are, so I'm leaving them out of this topic. So the Quantum Catalyst, Abu S/SX. Although I was thinking is the Abu S much different in quality and casting distance as the new Orra SX? Sorry for some questions that may seem kind of repetitive on other posts, I just like to have a lot of opinions. I'm constantly thinking of my options and what I want to do next, it's almost unhealthy! Thanks
  18. I need a new reel and was set to grab a Revo Premier, and now the Z200 is at the same price point. I had never seriously looked at the Z200 at or near the MSRP. But, now I am forced to make a comparison between the two. As how I fish, well, I am all over the spectrum. I guess mostly I fish small ponds and smallish rivers/creeks, but a few times a year I do hit the delta, and Berryessa/Clear Lake. I do a fair amount of traveling, mostly to North Texas and split my time between Fork, Ray Roberts, and a Private lake while I am there. I have mainly been a shimano guy in the past, though I own a couple of quantum spinners. Does anyone with experience with one, or even better, both of these care to weigh in? Or do I just say screw it and get a T3 and T3 Ballistic. 1st world problems.......... Anyway, thoughts would be appreciated.
  19. Hello, I am new to this forum, and kinda knew to this so be easy on me.... But i was wondering, what are some good after market bearings and or parts i could use on my Abu Revo Elite? I was wanting to upgrade my reel for better casting performance, But i wasn't sure on any brands or if there are any after market parts available at all? All comments appreciated... Thank you for your time -John
  20. Alright guys got another question. Everyone knows im a lews guy but i have a revo stx generation 3 that i bought a couple of years ago. it was good for about 6 months then wouldnt cast very far at all. I've cleaned it and everything. i plan on using this for flipping so i dont have to cast far but would like to know how i can fix it myself to make it work like it used to. should i put boca bearings in? any advice please let me know.
  21. so here is just my little review/opinion of these two lightweight contenders. First off, I absolutely love both of these reels, but I think the Core is slightly more refined than the MGX. I believe this because when they are in my hand the Core seems slightly more solid and isn't noticeably heavier, even though the specs state that the Core is only .1 oz heavier. The Core and the MGX are both very smooth, but the Shimano A-RB bearings seems slightly smoother than the HPCR bearings of the MGX. both of these reels cast extremely well and do not require a lot of setup beforehand, the MGX's dual brakes do there part well, and I actually like the ability to adjust the MGX's centrifugal brakes by turning the switch and not having to undo the side plate. The one thing I do like better on the Core in the spool control area is the cast control knob; on the MGX the knob never really seems to tighten down the spool until you really crank it down, the Core's cast control knob just allows for smoother adjustments than the MGX's clicking knob. Both reels have smooth drags, however the Core's drag system seems to have more lockdown power than the MGX's, even though the MGX boasts 12 lbs. against the Core's 11 lbs. Both reels are rated to handle braid, but I have not tried braid on them yet. As far as comfort, they are tied, both reels feel exceptionally comfortable in my hand. However, I do like the MGX's EVA grips over the hard rubber grips on the Core. If it is looks you are after the MGX wins in this category, I personally love the Carbon fiber handle and how it plays really well into the overall style of the reel, the Core does look good with the red accents but it doesn't really stand out in looks, from some other reels out there. Overall I rate the MGX a 9/10 and Core a 9.5/10; both are exceptional reels, if you are looking at purchasing one of them, you really can't go wrong with either. Here are the Specs on the two: Shimano Core 50Mg7 weight: 5.5 oz bearings: 8 S A-RB + 1 A-RB roller bearing tapered levelwind insert 7.0:1 gear ratio w/ HEG gearing dartanium drag w/11lbs of drag recessed reel foot audible star drag 1/8 turn VBS side plate Abu Garcia Revo MGX 7.1:1 weight: 5.4 oz bearings: 10 HPCR + 1 HPCR anti reverse roller 7.1:1 gear ratio w/ duragear brass gearing carbon fiber drag system w/12 lbs of drag x-craftic frame recessed reel foot clicking adjustments on brakes, cast control, and drag carbon fiber recessed handle Hope this helps anyone with a dilema on their mind, tight lines -Alex
  22. Hey everybody. I'm interested in the Gen. 3 Revos, but have little experience with them. I want a high speed reel (7:1), and like the look of the SX or the STX. Does anyone have any recommendations as to which is better/what you prefer? Main use will be frogging.
  23. Anyone that has one of the 3rd Gen Revo STX baitcasters... I'm having a problem getting the spool to stop on my casts without braking it down hard with the knob. I've tried 2, 3, 4, and 6 pins engaged and modified the magnetic brake with each setup. I'm not new to baitcasters. I have a Lew's TP1H and 2 Pflueger Patriarch XT's. I can cast the heck out of all 3 and get massive distance with zero backlash and a great spool stop from my brakes on all 3 of those reels using as light as 1/4 oz crank baits. For some reason I just cant adjust the new Revo to cast decent. Anyone have any ideas? I'll admit this is my first Abu baitcaster so maybe there's something different in adjusting the Revo?
  24. Hi everyone- I recently got a new REVO SX 7:1.1 as a gift. Now i need a rod to keep it company. My options are limited to what my walmart has. 1. Berkley Shock Rod. 2. Abu Vendetta or Vengence(cant remember). 3. Shimano Sellus. Ive never had a reel this light and compact. What would your recommendations be of these 3? And what would you use this set up for? Thank you all for your time .
