  1. Hi everyone, first post here. I have been searching for a definitive answer for hours and can't seem to find anything that helps. I apologize if this question has been asked before. I have been servicing all mine and my dad's reels the past week. He has a couple year old SV TW and the pinion gear is making noise when it spins against the main gear. It was not making the noise prior to servicing it. Everything has been completely taken apart, greased, and oiled. It still feels smooth and works better than ever except for the buzzing sound when the gear spins. I have tried taking it out and putting it back in multiple times now and it's the same every time. Nothing appears to be broken or chipped. Why is it making the noise? Or does the pinion gear simply need to be replaced? Thanks in advance! Pictures can be provided if that will help diagnose the problem.
  2. I am newish to fishing and recently purchased a KVD CC4 rod with a bc reel on FB Marketplace. I have recently fallen in love throwing chatterbaits with trailers, and read that the CC4 rod (made for medium cranking apparently) would be good for a blade jig rod as well. The rod is rated for 1/4-1/2 oz lures; today I went to my local pond, threw on a 3/8 oz chatterbait and a storm largo 3.5in and started casting. I noticed that the rod has a lot of bend to the top of it, like it's being loaded while casting. Am I overreacting or is my lure combo too heavy for the rod? I couldn't find what the actual plastic weighs unfortunately Thanks for any insight
  3. I have a question about finesse fishing. How does it work? I thought bass are aggressive and ambush, how do they like a bait that just sits and holds still? I mean I know they are also opportunistic feeders but I feel like they would rather ambush something that moved like a fish. I also have heard from Mike Iaconelli that it triggers a reaction bite. How does it do this when it finesse is supposed to be subtle and finesse and not reaction style? Thanks!
  4. Hey everyone. I was fishing lake Washington today and I fish the spots marked in blue and I didn’t do good at all. I feel like I don’t fish bad spots but why can’t I catch fish. Where would you all fish on a lake like this and what would you use. Most of them are in pre spawn with water temp of 54 degrees. I am in a tournament and today was day one and tomorrow is the last day and I need to get some fish. Thanks
  5. Is there anyone who owns or knows anything about either of these Raid rods? I've been trying to find information about them outside of their own website, but it's pretty difficult to come by. I mainly want to know how they compare against a Destroyer P5 (or any other higher-end rod) in terms of quality, sensitivity, etc... Thank you in advance.
  6. I have heard that bass don't like the muddy ground. Why is this? Thanks!
  7. Hey y'all, been a while since I've posted. Last time i was in florida, I'm now back up north with a canoe rig for smallies. Anyway, picked up an endura 30 to scoot around the local river/ lake with my nephew. Battery is next, I've seen a lot of guys using lithium, some lead acid and everything from 40-100ah. what size/ type battery do I need? 17ft fiberglass sears, 350ish with gear. Need a solid couple hours of use either well trolling or getting to and from dock to spot.
  8. I’m having issues deciding between a Bantam and a Chronarch and I’ve watched a bunch of videos and read reviews and all that jazz, but I can’t conceptualize the size of them. Basically every video I’ve seen will only compare other MGL reels or older models (which is valid). I think that the Cronarch is a tad smaller and lighter so I’ve been leaning towards that but I would rather have an aluminum frame, so if someone could let me know about the sizes in comparison to the Curado 200K I would be very appreciative ? Btw the plan of usage is for finesse powerfishing (usually smaller bladed jigs) with a 6’10” M/F Curado Rod
  9. I live by a reservoir, and I really want to get out on the water, but there isn't much bank access. I have a very limited budget of $150. What should I get?
  10. I was wondering what pound main line and what type of leader mono or flouro and pound for inshore striped bass fishing in New England
  11. I just spooled up my new reel with 14lb nanofil and i felt these bumps on the line they weren't nicks or frays so i wondered if it mattered
  12. I have a 12.8ft kayak, looking to outfit it with a trolling motor. What size transom would be best? 30#, 45, etc? It weighs 100lbs dry and with gear and me it's about 350lbs.
  13. Picked up a fishing kayak and have spent the last 3 days on the Susquehanna river between Hallstead PA and Conklin NY. I am fairly new to serious fishing and could use some advice, I have been using the tackle (linked below, I cant add picture for whatever reason) and have not had a single bite in 3 days, I understand that it's harder to catch fish in the dog days of summer so I have been getting out on the river around 6:00 AM and fish until around 9:30 AM. What other tackle should I be using for the river in the summer? Thanks all for your time https://scj6771.smugmug.com/Absolute-Randomness/i-tppm7q4/A
  14. Can someone tell me if this reel (http://m.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Abu-Garcia-Revo-STX-Spinning-Reel-REVO2STX10&i=912087) would be a good pair for this rod (http://m.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=St-Croix-Legend-Tournament-Bass-Casting-Rod-610-Medium-Light&i=451547) I really don't have time to check. Anything would be great. Also I'd appreciate any alternate suggestions.
  15. I know I came across something like this one day when I was doing some research, and I'm having trouble finding it again. The question here is.. When I'm working Texas rig, is there anyway the bullet weight can affect a hook set? Wether it be the bass gulped up the weight when she sucked in the lure, causing her to open her mouth when the hook is set from the weight pounding on the inside of her mouth, or the weight to heavy that you really only whip the weight up vs actually whipping on the hook? I mean honestly I have been fishing Texas rig all my life and of course I have missed more fish than i can count (I can say the same about how many I've caught) but if there was an actual reason potentially behind the weight on why I could have missed a handful of those that got away? So if you have heard of anything like this please spin me up on it! And I know of a hundred other reasons on why there could have been a failed hook set, just want to know if the weight, or position of the weight affected it at all! Thank you!
  16. Hi all, this is my first post so go easy on me please. I fish Spring Lake in California it is relatively small, about 70 acres, but it fishes very large with many coves and places for dish to hide. I saw a guy really doing well with a spook. I picked one up and was just wondering if anyone had a specific style that they like to fish this lure. Thanks in advance.
  17. I am new to fishing prespawn bass. What do the bass want? Plastics? Jigs? Lures? I am fishing in Michigan on a lake that is mostly clay, sand, and marl. The waters are still in the 50's-60's. He lake goes to about 35 ft deep and has steep drop offs. The water is dark typically about 2-3 ft of visibility. I'm open to all suggestions. I've tried Texas rigs and jigs and nothing and I know there in there. Thank you!
  18. I know this is a re-run but I looked and had no luck. Was out on the water yesterday and it was slowwww. Just before going in decided to fish a worm on a Texas Rig. 1/16 oz bullet, 2/0 EWG, non-pegged by the way, ten pound braid with 10 pound fluro leader, four inch worm. Had heard mentioned a straight over the head hookset was best so this was in the back of my mind. Well, we got lucky and started getting a ton of bites. First three hooksets were to the side....miss,miss,miss. So then remembered....started the over the head and did much better.....much. Wasn't 100 percent but noticably better. Does anyone have any input on this. Partner had same results. Thank you much and tight lines
  19. If possible could I get your opinions on say a 7 1/2 ft carolina rod. I have tried a couple of my older rods and have broken them on hooksets. I don't think I set to hard but was sure disapointed. I picked up a Ducket 7 ft plus heavy cranking rod the other day and it didn't feel bad. I'm using a 6 1/2 short ol fenwick composit now and it's holding up but too short I believe. Am throwing 14/17 lb line. Thank you for input
  20. Heyo I just got a new trolling motor and have a quick question about the wires on the unit. My battery is in the rear of my boat for my lights, depth finder, and transom mounted trolling motor. My new motor is a bow mount and I have 2 choices. One: I could splice the wires and extend them to reach the rear of my boat. Two: I could move my battery up to the front of the boat and my depth finder's wires should be long enough to reach it. The choice I PREFER is to splice and extend the positive and negative wires from the unit to reach the end of my boat... The biggest reason I'm asking about this is because I was wondering if extending the positive and negative would make the unit lose power. It would be about 13-14 feet from the unit to the battery. That seems like a lot of wire for the power to travel through. Do I run the risk of under-powering the unit or any other risk that could devastate my battery or the unit by using wires that long? If you'd like to see a picture of the motor housing and the wires in question, you can go to my album "My First Boat" they're all in there.
  21. Hey, does anyone know what hooks Bass Pro use on their brand lures? Thanks
