  1. Hey folks, I bought a Bass Pro Qualifier baitcast reel a few weeks ago, and I've taken it out ten times so far. I was extremely satisfied with its performance up until yesterday, when I found that the spool tension knob has apparently stopped working. I can tighten the knob all the way, yet my bait still drops to the ground quickly once I press the thumb bar. I don't know what I could have done wrong to make this happen- unless it could be hosing down the reel after a day of fishing? Where I fish, there's often a thick layer of mucky scum that gets all over the reel, so when I get home I tighten down the star drag, put the hose sprayer on its "Soak" setting and douse the reel, cast and retrieve a couple of times, and then re-loosen the star drag for storage. Anyone know how I might go about diagnosing the problem with the spool tension? Of course, I can take it back to Bass Pro and let them deal with it, but I'd like to try to resolve it myself if possible. They're sixty miles away.
  2. 6.4:1 BPS Pro Qualifier 7.5:1 Lews Tournament MB Which one would you use for Jigs? Which for Cranks/Jerkbaits/Spinnerbaits? Thanks!
  3. Ok so I have a PQ that I want to pair with a 6'6'' medium action rod. It's an older guide series rod. I love the feel of both the rod and the reel paired together, but I am having a problem getting the reel to stay tight in the seat. (Fuji graphite seat FYI). After I get it as tight as I can by hand I can kinda force the reel forward and it pops out pretty easily. Like if a fish pulled hard I think it would pop out... What can I do to get it tight? Thanks.
  4. I'm thinking of picking up a Johnny Morris CarbonLite casting combo in H/XF for my new pitching rig. For $30 more I can get the CarbonLite over a Pro Qualifier. Looks like it has better components, it's 3oz lighter, more bearings, and both the mag and centrigual breaks can be set without having to open the side-plate. Seems like it would be well worth the $30. But Pro Qualifiers seem to have such a huge following, and I can get that one in a 7.1:1 as opposed to a 6.4:1 on the CL. I'm not quite sure if I should just go with that instead? I'd also be open to any other suggestions in the $220 price range for a pitching combo. It doesn't have to be H/XF necessarily, but I'd like a rod that can pitch a decent distance into some thick cover and am looking for an easy to use LH retrieve b/c reel (it'll be my first b/c). I know a lot of you will just recommend that I go to the store and see how they feel in my hand but there isn't a BPS anywhere near where I live and the local tackle shops don't carry many of the brands I was thinking off (BPS, Lews, Powell, Ducket). I can find *** here and Abu Garcia and I'm pretty sure I would be really happy with a Revo SX on an *** Black but that would be a little above my budget. I feel kind of bad posting so many questions about pitching rigs lately but it'll be the most money I put on a rig to date and I really value this community's opinions.
  5. Money is not the deciding factor here, but looking for anyone who's fished a 4.7:1 PQ with deep running cranks. I'd really like to have the slower speed for cranking deep for walleye. I like the big handle on the Winch also, but its only 5.4:1. Maybe not a huge difference, but with walleye where I fish, it may be. I dont want the PQ if I'm going to have to sacrifice smoothness. I know I'll already be adding 2.5 ounces if I go with the PQ. Wondering what people think would be better for cranks that run 8-16 feet?
  6. Anyone out there have a BPS Pro Qualifier 7'6" spinning rod Med, XFast they are willing to part with? I broke my buddy's, and it was his favorite dropshotting rod. The only problem is that BPS doesn't make them anymore, so if there's anyone with one they are interested in selling, I'd love to try to make a deal with you. Thanks.
