  1. Dumb question but I'm upgrading to a medium heavy fast action rod from a medium fast action rod and it seems alot more beefy, just wondering if it'll have any effect over feeling a fish biting.. Thanks
  2. Is there a rod size/ action/ power that would work well for both trout and crappie? I mostly fish for bass and would like to add just one rod that could be used for crappie and trout- is that possible? Price would be under $100 for rod and reel. I would be fishing mostly in ponds but would want to try streams for trout. Thanks guys!
  3. As my rod and reel arsenal grows, I’ve been looking into some specific rods for a few of my techniques. One will be strictly a lipless crankbait rod. Looking for something around 7’3”. Nothing shorter than 7’. I mostly throw 1/4oz SK RES, but I also use 1/2oz on occasion. I also like the original trap when they like a fast paced, steady retrieve and I only use the 1/2oz. I would prefer a medium heavy action bc I like the backbone for fishing grass and submerged cover, so a 1/4oz-3/4oz or 1/4oz-1oz rating seems about right. Either a moderate or moderate fast action. Just a little bit of give in the tip to avoid pulling hooks. My main concern is the weight of the rod. I’m normally making super long casts and burning it back trying to find fish and usually once I find them I just keep throwing it bc I have so much confidence in it. Needless to say, I’m looking for the lightest rod I can get away with. Thanks in advance for any opinions. Looking forward to seeing some of y’all’s recommendations.
  4. If you guys needed one rod for each of the three categories below, what would they be (in terms of power, action, glass/graphite, length, etc), and what do you use if you already have a rod that covers some? - Jig/Frog/ heavy cover rod -Spinnerbait/chatterbait/crank rod -topwater rod I'm curious as to what you guys use. I will be purchasing three rods to cover all these and want to see what others opinions are.
  5. So, while I have fallen victim to my share of broken lines and lost lures, I often wonder whether or not I’m pairing my line with the right tackle; obviously not! In my search for answers, very specific answers at that, I’ve come across what seems to have been the most thorough and yet efficient article on ‘bassfishin’ website titled fishing-line-guide [I couldn’t add link for some reason]. I mean, yes!!! Finally, a very detailed article, but... wow! I couldn’t help but feeling like my three rod, three reel arsenal will get me no where. I realize that there ideal setups per technique or presentation but where’s the middle of the road? How can I make the most out of a reel without having to switch out the line with each lure change? For example, if one of my rod and reel combos can work many techniques and handle (obviously) the weight of many lures but technically based on the article requires a different line for each, how do I get around having to switch out the line? Does anyone have better recommendations? I fish (freshwater) with monofilament because I’m fairly new to fishing and that’s what’s always recommended to me. My current reels and rods are as follows: G.Loomis Mag Bass 782c 6’6” Med Fast Mag Bass 844c 7’ Heavy Fast Crankbait 864C DF 7’2” Med-Heavy Mod Shimano Chronarch 200E7 7.0:1 Curado K 6.2:1 & 8.5:1
  6. I got some new line (PowerPro) put on my Okuma Fina when I started fishing this summer and yesterday when I visited the tackle shop the guy told me it was 50lb test. I wasn't even aware they put that big a line on there so I asked the guy what he would recommend instead and he said 10lb should be sufficient. I had him put some PowerPro 10lb on the reel and it was definitely a big difference compared to the 50lb. I have to say I'm a big fan of the braided line. I only ever used monofilament my whole fishing life. The braided line is great that it doesn't twist or get all tangled. My question then is this. I have the Okuma on a Field & Stream Tech-Spec rod (6' 6") medium fast action. Is the 10lb a good choice for bass fishing? I'm just wondering now if I shouldn't had the guy put something heavier on there.
  7. Hey guys im going to get a new rod, the Powell Max 3d mag bass 7'3 Heavy Xtra Fast action.. Do yall think this would be too much for pitching with braid(not flipping...). If so please tell me why.. Thanks
  8. Im just curious as to what type of fishing a hvy power xf casting rod at 7'6" would be good for? I went to bass pro and saw the johnny morris platinum rods in mh and hvy and the only action the hvy rods come in is xf. ...new to this forum
  9. Hey guys I have a Powell max3d in 6'8 mh extra fast and I've had it for about 4 months now and for some reason it has gone from a mh x fast to like a medium medium.. I baby my rod and take good care of it and I don't know how this happened, if you know what's wrong please tell me thanks:)
  10. Just a little something I came up with while at work, feel free to share. Looking back several years ago this would have been very helpful for a young starting out me. Not sure if anyone has ever made one of these on here but I have never seen one. Enjoy!
  11. Hi, I've been fishing lakes and ponds in southwest idaho for 8 years or so. I am very interested in starting a group dedicated to bass fishing in Idaho. I would love to get to know the Bass Resource staff. I have been watching videos on youtube by Glenn May for over a year. It's a pleasure to be on here officially!
  12. How much of a difference is there between the two a ( Mod/Fast tip and Extra Heavy Power) over a standard fast action tip with (Extra Heavy power.) as I. Needed for only flipping and forging but no punching in the 5 pound weeds.
  13. I recently bought a brand new boat and am thinking about its next upgrade. When we got the boat we bought very cheap depth finders to go on it. Should I install one powerpole or upgrade my depth finders?
  14. What is the best type of Rod to use in order to fully utilize Zara Spooks? (Power and Action)
  15. I'm looking at purchasing 3 different *** *** Black casting rods (2 M and 1 MH in different lengths) and was wondering if anyone who has used their rods has some feedback on their power ratings? All the reviews I've read of the *** series have been very positive given it's price point. But I want to make sure I don't get something under or over-powered because I have to order them online and won't be able to get any hands-on time with them until they're purchased. Thanks!
