  1. Hey all. Long time lurker, first time poster. I know that how freely or fast a bearing spins doesn't necessarily equate to a "smooth" feeling retrieve, but that being said, why do my Pfluegers (XT) knobs spin so much faster and more easily than my Daiwa (Tatula LT, Regal LT) knobs? In case you're wondering, I took out the bushings in the Tatula and replaced them with quality ABEC3 bearings (and noticed absolutely no difference). I'm having fun playing with reels and just want to learn more; I know there may be no practical benefit to knowing the answer.
  2. I bought 3 new spinning reels in last week or so. Kinda having my own little comparison test. All within $10 of costing $50. They're all 2500/3000 size range. Pflueger President, Pflueger Trion and Shimano Sahara. Hadn't really fished em yet. Just playing with em around the house. So far, I like the Pfluegers best. Problem with the Sahara is the little switch you flip to backreel is oddly placed and teeny-tiny. I've found the best casting setup to be braid with a floro or mono leader. Couple are spooled up straight copoly but probably change them to braid eventually. It's just so smooth casting. I was tossing the Sahara with 10-lb Power Pro and man it's accurate.
  3. Hey guys looking for input from people that have used BOTH the Pflueger Supreme and the Supreme XT. Is there a noticeable difference between the 2 ? I have 2 of the Supreme 30 models and love them so far. I'm looking to get another, but wondered if its worth it to spend the extra $$ for the XT model ? I'm not concerned whats better about the components but more of how it works and feels compared. Thanks for any input !
  4. I bought my 2 sons a Daiwa Revros 3000H and Pflueger President 30 spinning reels and I want to find the right size rods for these reels. I've search everywhere on the internet and the info I've found is a little confusing. They only freshwater fish mostly for bass. When I searched for the Pflueger, the results were anywhere from a 6 ft to a 7.5 ft rod. When I searched for the Daiwa, the results were an 8.5 ft to a 9 ft rod. Why such a discrepancy when the 2 reels are basically the same size? I'm only looking at Ugly Stiks Elites, but I don't know if I should get a 6 ft, 6.5 ft or 7 ft rod. I think a 7.5 ft and certainly a 8.5 or 9 ft rod is way too big especially if they'll mainly be fishing from a row boat. Am I wrong? Also, any thoughts on Med vs Med/Heavy and 1 or 2 piece?
  5. Hey there, just picked up a Pflueger President 6935 at Dicks for 30 bucks. Normal price was 59 but they have them on sale for 49 and with $10 coupon from previous purchase plus a Pflueger 10 dollar mail in rebate total comes to 32 bucks. Can't beat that with a stick!!
  6. I'm getting a pflueger president 6930x soon and I need to know a good rod for it Any suggestion?? Thanks! (btw I'll be fishing for large mouth bass with it)
  7. I am looking into buying a pflueger trion baitcast reel and was wondering what rod, and rod length, use with it. I fish for bass in ponds and lakes. I fish mostly from the shore and kayaks occasionally. I'd like to keep the cost less than $50. Thanks in advance.
  8. I am going to purchase a 7 foot medium light ugly stik elite for bluegill bait fishing and finesse bass fishing. What size reel should I put on it, I'm leaning towards a Pflueger president or trion. Thanks in advance also probably about 6-8 lb line
  9. Hey BR, What is a good UL spinning rod and a good UL spinning reel for panfish(smaller bass included)? Thanks, Big Fish Small Pond
  10. Hey BR, What rods are you guys pairing your Pflueger President 6930 Spinning Reels with? Also, what rods are you guys pairing your Shimano Stradic 2500 Spinning Reels with? Thanks, Big Fish Small Pond
  11. After I've had multiple problems with my Shakespeare Excursion reel I've decided to look into a more expensive reel made by a reputable company. Cheap 20$ reels haven't been cutting it for me. I've narrowed it down to a Pflueger president limited edition or a Pflueger president. I fish mostly for lm bass, sm bass ,bluegill, drum ,and pike. There's quite a price difference in the two reels so I want to make a good choice. I will be paring it with a 6 6 medium action ugly stik
  12. One year ago I bought a Pflueger Trion Spincast reel and I absolutely loved it. I recommended it to my friends and they all bought some too. I had never had an issue with it and I do take care of my fishing gear and keep them clean. Okay, so last week I was on the boat fishing and I went to cast and as soon as I pressed the thumb button the line just fell to the water. It's not supposed to release the line until I take my thumb off of the button but it will not hold the line in place to cast. So I reeled in and tried and tried again but as soon as I clicked the thumb button the line would just release and not allow me to actually cast. Instead of holding down the thumb button and then releasing it with my cast it just drops the line and doesn't hold it in place. So I took the cone off of the reel and took all the old line off and cleaned it out and then re-spooled it and it still will not cast correctly. I have compared it to my other reels and it all looks normal inside the reel. I do not understand what is wrong. Is there some sort of spring that could be broken? I really like this reel and I want to fix it if possible. Has anyone ever had this issue?
  13. Hi All, I'm new to the forum here, and I'm hoping you bass veterans can help me. I just purchased a new Pflueger 6'6"combination spinning rod and Pflueger President 6935X spinning reel on...(gasp)...Amazon. It arrived in good shape and looks great, BUT... When I hold the rod with the reel base passing between my middle finger and my ring finger, I find that the rod tip falls down VERY easily. I'm used to holding the rod in this "live-long-and-prosper" grip...have been used to it with all other spinning set-ups I have had. I am used to having the rod balance (or nearly balance) with my had in this position, and having to hold the rod tip up constantly is a bit of a distraction. I can see it being tiring when fishing all day long. I called the Pflueger folks, and their rep said that the balance point was about 5-6 inches forward of where the reel mount joing the rod! SO, my question is---- is this normal? I guess I could hold it forward of the mount, but I find that I get better control when my fingers bisect the mount. I'm thinking of returning the "Combo" and just purchasing the 6935x reel by itself and putting it on another rod. (My apologies if I have used the wrong names for the parts of the reel/rod.) Any insights would be much welcomed! Thanks to all, and good luck this season----
  14. Hey guys, New to the forum but have been reading great threads with helpful information that past few weeks. Figured I would join and ask for some great advice myself! I am looking to pick up a new spinning reel for average largemouth fishing. I think I have decided on the Pflueger President 6930 over a Shimano based on price and recent quality reviews, and I am looking for an affordable rod. I came across an Ugly Stik 7' MH/F for $40 bucks and a free shirt lol Anyone have any experience or similar combos? I was told the 7' might be too big but I personally don't think so. Would I be better with a 6'6" M/F? I am currently using my old Shimano GR-X1200 my father gave me on a Berkley Graphite 6' but want to use this rod for trout and have a separate bass rod. Thanks! -Steve
  15. What would be a good match with the Pflueger President Spinning Reel under a $50 price point?
  16. Hey bassresource community, new to the forum posting topics wise, however I have gleamed quite a bit already from different discussions viewable on these forums. I will be in the market for a couple new mid-level and in some cases low-level(St. Croix, G. Loomis, Fenwick, etc.) rod and reel set-ups for next season. I am not trying to use these rods with a particular type of bait, however, what I am looking for is overall versatilty. Since I will be waiting for the obligatory Black Friday and corresponding Cyber Monday sales, I have decided to receive invaluable input from those of you on these forums that harness much more fishing knowledge than myself. The Rods sizes and action I am leaning towards are as follows: Casting Rod 7' M F Casting Rod 7' MH XF Spinning Rod 6'6"-7'2" M F-XF Spinning Rod 7' M F Also, a baitcaster reel to go along with each casting rod and spinning reels to match with the spinning rods. These sizes and action are not written in stone, it just seems to be a decent start from what I have come to understand as versatile rod characteristics. I am open to any advice given my way on this topic. Tight Lines Guys
  17. I have been saving my money for a while and was thinking about buying a 7'4" heavy st croix rage equipped with a pflueger patriarch as I think they would look amazing together. I will be using it for top water, some smaller swimbaits, big worms, and big crankbaits. This will be my first 350$+ purchase and was wondering what you guys think about it. Thanks in advance!
  18. Hello all. I recently purchased a Pflueger Summit (SMT30X) spinning reel and I'm planning on buying a St. Croix Triumph 6'6" MF spinning rod. After reading through the forums I've decided to use PowerPro braided line with a fluorocarbon leader. I'm still undecided when it comes to backing with monofilament line first, or to solely use the braided line after placing electrical tape on the spool. What, if any, are the pros and cons of either setup? The main question I have is what pound line is recommended for my reel? Note that the Pflueger Summit (SMT30X) has the same spool size as the Pflueger President (6930X). Regarding my setup, it appears as though most individuals run either 10, 15, or 20lb. braided line. However, I haven't seen anyone mention the 30lb. line. According to PowerPro's specifications, their 30lb. line is equivalent to an 8lb. monofilament line. If I'm understanding what I've read correctly it doesn't appear as though individuals run with anymore than double their casting length with braided line (obviously this doesn't apply to an electrical tape setup). Therefore I fail to see the size of line mattering in regards to spool capacity. Can anyone can help me understand why I shouldn't just use the largest size? My final question regards what size monofilament line, and fluorocarbon line to use. My assumption is that I just go with whatever diameter matches up with the braided line I choose. Ex. PowerPro 20lb. braided would be backed with 6lb. monofilament , and a 6lb. fluorocarbon leader. All answers, corrections, clarifications, and further advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  19. I'm looking to put together an "all around" bass fishing combo. I almost picked up a Pflueger President 6930 (reel only) yesterday on sale for $59.00. Today I just found a Pflueger Arbor combo for $39.99 (reel alone is regularly $89.00). Does anyone have any thoughts on the Arbor? I think the arbor is a size 50.....too big for Minnesota bass?? How does the Arbor compare to the President? thanks for your help
  20. I am going to crankbait, jerkbait, shad rap on this new reel and I am going to put 10 or 12 # fluorocarbon on it. The plan is to get a reel around the $200 retail range cheaper on the "auction site". I have researched some and would love some opinions on these reels: 1) Lews tournament pro speed spool $148 (leaning toward this one) 2)Lews tournament MG speed spool $104 or 129 (retail) 3) Abu Garcia Revo Stx $153 4) Pflueger supreme XT $135 6) Johnny morris signature series $160
  21. I am wondering how to know if a rod and reel are balanced well. I have heard of placing your finger where the cork or composite meets the blank and it should balance out, is this an accurate way? The reason I ask is I'm in the market for a pflueger president and am debating between the 6930 and 6935. For instance, if I buy the St. Croix premier 6'6 medium power fast action, the rod says it can handle 6-12 wt. line. The pflueger 6930 reccomends 4-8 wt. line and the 6935 reccomends 6-10 wt. line. This would make me think the 6935 is the way to go but most people reccomend the 6930.... Thanks so much for any avice
  22. I'm looking for a spinning rod to pair with a pflueger president 6930 or 6935. I plan on only having one spinning combo in my yak so i need something pretty versatile. Something that will cover wacky worms, small texas rigs, spinnerbits 1/4 oz. and smaller, anything too small for a baitcaster. I know extra-fast action is best for wacky worming but will that be sufficient for small spinnerbaits? I'm thinking a meium power, would you suggest 6'6, 6'8, or 7'? I know I will either purchase an abu garcia veritas, st. croix mojo bass, or st. croix premier. Say I decided on the mojo bass, would the wacky worm or tubes and grubs model be best? I know this was a lot of questions so thank you to anyone who offers some help.
  23. I'm looking to pair a pflueger president spinning reel with my St. Croix Mojo Bass Wacky Style Rod. The rod's tip was snapped and repaired so it is now 6 foot 2 rather than 6 foot 8. Should I buy the 6930 or 6935? I'll be using it for wacky worming and crankbaits.
  24. I'm not sure whether or not to get the Pflueger Purist or the Daiwa Exceler spinning reel for finesse fishing with mostly charlie brewer slider heads, drop shotting, and wacky worming. Have you guys had any experience with the Pflueger Purist Spinning Reels? They just came out not too long ago, and not many reviews have been posted. I know that the daiwa exceler is a pretty popular reel though. Thanks.
  25. Hey Everyone! Just had a newbie question. I have recently gotten into bass fishing and I absolutely love it. Im ready to ditch my rod and reel from when i was a kid and want to buy a new setup. I wanna get a fairly affordable rod and reel. I have been thinking about the ugly stik lite 6'6" medium rod and the pflueger president 6935 reel. Is this a good combo? Or would you recommend something else? Also would trilene xl 8# mono work well with that setup? Thanks!
