  1. Aloha, gang: This is a long shot, but if there’s any anglers that are familiar with Opossum Lake in Cumberland County on here that have solid knowledge of the lake (particularly anyone who fishes it by boat), I’d love to hear from you. After 30 years in Massachusetts, I moved back to the area a few years ago and if I’m not out in tour, I’m at Opossum Lake at least 3-4 times a week from March til it freezes over. I’m aware it’s still a bit of an immature lake since its drain/filling but I do know as of a year or two ago the F&G now consider it a Trophy Bass/Muskie lake. My question is this: Where the hell do those fish go in winter? For the life of me (other than one very big and very unintentionally-caught Muskie in Dec ‘20) I cannot locate them. I’m fishing from shore and 9 months of the year my half-dozen spots will usually produce something. Opossum isn’t particularly deep but with that said, I’m beginning to wonder if the bass move into the middle (deepest) section of the lake which is way outta my casting distance from shore. I’m getting the seasonal movement patterns of Opossum down pretty acutely after a few years after fishing it so thoroughly but winter bass activity is a code I’ve yet to crack there. any help would be greatly appreciated - even (or especially if) I find out I’m wasting my time until about March …
  2. Hey everyone, so I'm new to the schuylkill county area. Just moved up from south Jersey and I'm on the look out for some smallies. I'm in schuylkill Haven so I have the schuylkill river right down the street. Looking for some decent moving water that holds smallmouth. So far I've only found large mouth and some trout. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!
  3. I have always been a frequent visitor to the website and rarely do I see much talk about the keystone state when it comes to our small state park lakes. I am a resident of western pa who fishes Yellow Creek State Park as well as Glendale Lake quite often. If there are any other 20hp restricted guys or gals out there that would like to discuss all things Pennsylvania this is the place!
  4. Last summer at Yellow Creek Lake, I spotted what I thought was a dead minnow, but on closer inspection it was a small largemouth with what looked like a bluegill in its mouth. The largemouth was about three inches long.
  5. I'm trying to plan a trip to do some pre-spawn bass fishing in the poconos in the spring, can anyone tell me when ice-out up there typically is? Trying to shoot for the weekend of the 14th of April, hoping the water will be in the mid-high 40s. Thanks for any help
  6. Any good lakes to take my new kayak out onto in western pa?
  7. Greetings from Bucks County Pa! the part of it with no decent fishing within a half hour of me. (I half-joke) Been a long time since I was a fishing maniac. Life got in the way. now that life has slowed down a bit, I figure it's time to start fishing again. Wow, has fishing technology flown past me! anyways, time to dust off the rods and reels, and start yanking out bass! Harry
  8. Hello fellow anglers! I am new to the forums and have a question. Tomorrow I am leaving for Pennsylvania to fish lakes and rivers near Scranton. One day I will be going to the Susquehanna. I unfamiliar with what baits work well there. Any suggestions of plastics and/or hard baits would be great. Thanks a bunch!
  9. Hey all, Has anyone fished the Penn Warner lakes lately? If so, which lake did you fish? How'd you make out? I'm going tomorrow morning for the first time in a long time. Looking forward to responses!
  10. Hey guys, I live in Northampton county PA. I do a lot of fishing on small lakes in the area from shore. I was wondering if any of you guys have fished on either Lake Minsi, Leaser Lake or Hidden Lake. If you have I would love to know any tips or tricks you guys have to share about fishing these waters. Also if you live in the southeast part of PA like I do I would love to hear about any bodies of water that you guys like to fish. Thanks!
  11. Anyone been here or can give tips or opinions on the quality of fishing here?
  12. Anyone out fishing any of these lakes? Seeing much action? I am seeing things pick up at Arthur near the 528 bridge heading to shallows. Also, caught some on Senkos at Cranberry lake, but not that many hits. Anybody getting fish on jerkbaits like huskyjerks? Just pike on them at Quemahoning.
  13. Just wanted to see who had some insight on this. I am located in Central Pennsylvania and am an avid bass angler. I am having trouble locating bass in the lakes we fish during the dog days of summer (late July - August). The lakes around us are smaller reservoirs that are usually elecric only or have a limit on outboard power and the water temp now is around 80 degrees. I have been running into a wall when it comes to finding bass in the heat of summer and can't seem to even trigger a bite down deep. I have been working all angles by targeting points at various depths by running swimbaits or cranking at different speeds. I'll also throw a dropshot, carolina or mojo rig working a lizard, tube, worm, or creature of different colors without a single nibble. The only thing that seems to give me success is working on the top or running a spinnerbait shallow early morning or twilight hours. I know everyone is saying that the bass are deeper during the summer but I still can't seem to trigger a bite down there. Obviously, it is hard to be confident spending all that time casting in the depths without any success and I understand it can be exhausting. But I have spent a good chunk of time concentrating on putting my bait in front of bass down deep and still haven't had success. My fishfinder will show me what I want to see with groupings down deeper on a flat or holding above a steep drop off so it seems as if my presentation is flawed. The only other thing I think may be the problem is that I may need to throw a smaller bait. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
  14. Hey all! This is the first forum site I've joined. I'm 25 years old from the suburbs of northeast Philadelphia. Used to be an avid fisherman with the old man and Beltzville, Nockamixon, Core Creek (lake Luxemburg), Neshaminy Creek and we were members at the Penn Warner Club. We also used to take trips to Canada and fish the lakes of the Rideu (sp?) Canal. Unfortunately we took a break from fishing for a number of years, but we are back at it! This Saturday is going to be our first time back out on the water in a long time. Does anyone fish Penn Warner? How has the fishing been? I can only imagine that this heat has been beating up Manor Lake. I'm really looking forward to meeting some new fishing buddies!
  15. Hey gang, New fisherman and new to the forums. Curious to try a Carolina rig this weekend. Using a medium action rod, fishing in Eastern PA, temp looks to be about 88. Would love some advice on sinker weight, hook size and a good bait to try. Any beginner tips in fishing the rig? Let it rest on the bottom? Twitch? Many thanks in advance for your insight and patience with a newbie. PaB74
  16. New to fishing this lake. Anybody have any luck here? It's a hard lake to fish with so much traffic. If anyone would share some info that would be extremely awesome. We launch from State Hill.
  17. Hello, My name is Jake, I'm from outside of Allentown Pennsylvania. I take my boat to nearby Beltzville Lake and Mauch Chunk Lake, but I LOVE to fish for smallmouth bass at Lake Wallenpaupack which is quite a bit away from home. I am ninteen years old and still in college. I work on the weekend and fish after school whenever I can. My love for bass fishing has recently been amplified due to my recent purchase of a boat (2008 Bass Tracker 175 TXW with a 50HP Merc). I love it!!! I am excited to learn from and also add to the priceless database of fishing information on bassresource.com. Thanks, Jake
  18. Hello, I am from MD, and will be up visiting Towards the end of September. I am hoping we will still have some warm weather to pull some Panfish out of the waters around Coatesville. I would like to teach my nephew how to fish. He is in a wheel chair, so it would have to be somewhere accesible for him. I would like to find a spot that we can go for an hour or so, and get my nephew into the enjoyment of fishing. If anyone knows of a couple productive fishing holes, or even a productive pond someone would allow us to fish, please let me know. Thank you, Matt
  19. Hey everyone, im 16 and currently living in Ohio, but visit to PA at least every other weekend, my dad fishes too but works during the week. I don't have a boat, although i'm currently trying to find a VERY cheap one. I'm trying to find someone to fish with, ive been fishing for about 4 years but have gotten very serious about bass fishing recently. I would be very interested in fishing a tourney with anyone, although im interested in someone to just practice fish or fun fish with. Thanks for taking the time to read my post. Derek Garner
  20. Hello, I am really concerned right now about the length of a boat we are getting. For you guys in PA, do our registrations round the length of the boat, like say its 17 1/2 ft. will it appear as 17'? Or is it still considered a 17' boat anyways not 17 1/2? Thanks, Zach
  21. Does anyone know any good ponds or lakes or anywhere at all good to fish around Scranton or Wilkes barre? A few friends and I are trying to start a youth fishing club and we need to find some places to fish
  22. Hey guys, I just moved to the Berwick area (from Central PA) for a new job. I was wondering if anyone from that area is on here, and would like to fish sometime, or could at least point me in the direction of some hotspots on the Suskie. I currently fish out of a kayak that I store at my apartment (obviously, being right out of college, can't afford a boat or anything to tow it with yet.) Particularly, I wanted to see if there are any Columbia County Bassmasters members on here, since I was thinking about joining as a rider. I know there's an "Open Buddy Tournament" over at the Test Track on June 23-24 I'd like to fish, and was also wondering if anyone was looking for a teammate to fish that. Thanks!
