  1. I hope you can help me arrive at a good guess at the weight of this 21" smallmouth I caught this week on Lac La Croix in the Boundry Waters. We didn't have a scale in the boat or a way to measure the girth, and I'd like to get a replica on the wall. Any guesses?
  2. I need some help with my fishing in Barrie i normally bike up to Kempenfelt bay, lake Simcoe and dont catch many fish on shaky heads, Senkos, mini spinner baits and even live bait I've used pretty much everything i have in my box, i can only fish in 1 spot there and the best fish ive caught was probably a 0.80-1 lb rock bass I'm mostly catching Goby and small mouth each normally around 0.20-0.30 lbs, my question is what works the best for BIG fish at the shores of Kempenfelt bay, lake Simcoe and what are the best times as i can only go from 7:00AM to 8:00 PM so just before sundown so i cant fish at the dark hours. i normally have 2 rods sitting with worms and a bobber and i have rod rod that normally have A:jerk-bait B:Texas rigged swim bait C: dead Goby fished like a swim bait, the spot i fish is near the Tiffin boat launch
  3. Has anyone ever fished muldrew lake? What species does it hold ?
  4. okay my fellow Ontario bass fishers @Attila @Mumbly what is your plan for this the first weekend of our 2017 bass season? where are you going? what are you throwing? where do you think you'll find them? opening this up to everyone what are you guys catching them on right now just so i have some idea of where to start
  5. Hey everyone I'm new to this site. I ev been fishing like a lot of you for my whole life. I've always had just a good rod. Now I'm at the point were I want to expand my arsenal. I'm looking to have 3rods. Just wondering what size and action I should use. I'm 5,9 and fish off a boat. I usually fish skirted jigs top water frogs and my most popular that I use is a wacky rig worm and tube baits. Also if anyone has any opinions on line and if I should use floro for which rod I would appreciate it. the water conditions I normally fish weeds drop offs and the water is clear. Thanks in advance everyone
  6. so in Ontario bass opened this past weekend like every other Ontario angler i was beyond excited i rigged up 8 rods the night before for the trip, all with various baits. 1) 1/2 oz Dredge Brush Jig 2) 3/4 oz Mata Football Jig 3) 3/8 oz Chatterbait 4) Arashi 5 Squarebill 5) Hudd 68 6) Strike King 6XD 7) Strike King Sexy Dawg 8) 5/16 oz Ned Rig The morning started off slow as I covered water with a spook and chatterbait, I hit the first one about 8:30 an hour into my trip not to big but man did i miss seeing blow-ups on top water baits. after that i hit one more on top water and then the bite died, I couldn't find anything for a while until i decided to start flipping brush and lily pads. Lets just say i need a couple more packages of beavers now they were on them non stop. I flipped in 6 good fish all over 3 lbs including one smallie which hit 3.5. I then moved to a couple spots and decided to throw the hudd which didn't get bit but that's fine I know how it goes with big baits, then i covered the bank again moving with a 3/8 oz bladed jig which landed me another 4 fish i decided to call if a day and have some beers with the guys. so over all i had an awesome opening weekend
  7. I am just starting to get into bass tournaments ans was curious if anyone knows of any in southern ontario?
  8. I've been bass fishing as long as I can remember and haven't started smallmouth fishing til this past spring. I'm in the military and have spent most of my time in the south nailing largemouth. Well, now I'm addicted to Smallmouth, lol. I was lucky enough to take orders up to Buffalo, NY and get to fish the Niagara and Lake Ontario. I'm curious if anyone has any tips on winter smallmouth up here. I've located what I think would be good spots for winter smallies on the Niagara bar. Sloping shelf from 25 to 40 ft in about 100 ft distance. I'm thinking of throwing an Erie darter on a 1/2 oz jighead, and 4'' Goby on same jighead and just slowly dragging it down that slope and in and around that 40ft plataeu. Any tips, advice, feedback would be greatly appreciated. Oh and if you have a Droid phone I highly recommend the "Cabela's Recon Fish" app. Saves you money on buying an expensive gps fishfinder. Thats how i was able to locate all of these possible spots on the lake. Wet lines and bent rods gents.
  9. I bought a 15.5 foot Mirrocraft last spring and figured I'd fish some prime smallmouth waters, like Sturgeon Bay in Lake Michigan and the upper Mississippi. I used it once and liked its speed and stability. Stepping onto its deck is like stepping onto the deck anchored to my house. Stepping into my canoe can be tricky and especially if it's a frosty morning and I'm stiffened by sleeping on granite. Nevertheless, I'm selling the big boat because I didn't like fishing that far from the water. I like being close to the fish and the water and most of all, I like that my canoe goes places no big boat can go. I also like how quiet my canoe is and that I don't have to fiddle with gasoline, launch ramps, a motor, and a battery. I fished from Old Town royalex canoes for years for their sturdiness, but as a concession to my 50s, I now fish from kevlar Bell boats. I have a solo and a tandem. Any others who prefer canoes? Of course, I have regrets with my choice of boats. I look at pics of your Lake Erie bass and understand it's unlikely I'll ever catch bass as big as you big water fishers catch, but lawdy, I sure do catch a lot of bass on those lovely, pristine lakes from my little boats.
