  1. I am new to fishing. Haven’t fished for 20 years. I bought me a setup and a boat and am trying to catch bass. I was always interested in catching bass as a child. Now that I’m out of the military, I have the chance to pick up this new hobby. Can someone help me with fishing east fork lake and where I can land a large mouth bass please? What setup works for you?
  2. Hey all, I moved to Cleveland from Michigan, and it seems like there are far fewer fishing spots here, and what spots are around are overfished and crowded. Anyone know of any decent bank fishing spots within 1/2 hour of Cleveland? I'm looking for any species. Thanks!
  3. I generally fish the Rocky River (Lakewood OH) for smallies, but there has been a few murders and robberies in the park recently so I want to find a new spot for a little while. Does anyone know any other good smallie rivers or different river stretches in the rocky that are productive?
  4. Alright, after a month of living in Athens I'm settled in. I decided today was the day to catch my first Ohio bass. I fished Dow Lake in Strouds Run State Park from dawn to about 1:00. I caught a dozen fish, all LMB except for a single anomaly SMB. All of the fish were dinks. I fished a paddle tail, ned rig, and wacky rig. The water temp was 74 when I left in the afternoon--lots of dying weed along the shores. I wasn't able to spot any off shore structure in my kayak. I'm going to try somewhere different next week. I've heard there aren't a lot of big fish in Dow, but it was still good to get out. So next week I'm going to try Logan, Tycoon, Ross, or Burr Oak. Can anyone make a recommendation on which spot might have the best fishing right now? I hope to see some reports from other Ohio people here soon. Happy fishing!
  5. Trying out portage lakes was wondering what to try and where there? (Boat Angler)
  6. Hey guys, New member here from Oregon, Ohio. I live right on Lake Erie, am a very avid waterfowl hunter and bass fisherman, along with other species of game and fish. I have enjoyed reading articles on this website for a couple years and am excited to start browsing the forums in hopes to educate myself a bit more. Thank you all!
  7. First post on here. My current setups include a 7ft MH mojo bass and a 6:1 tatula and a 6:1 Lews tourney pro g with 6'8" bass x mh and a 7ft m crankin stick and 6:1 ardent reel. Tatula has braid and is used for spinnerbaits and topwaters and does worm and jigs right now and bass x is my fathers so hardly use it and just got crankbait rod. I don't punch or anything being from ohio and fishing portage lakes. What should i use it for and what rod and line for it. (7:1 left hand revosx)
  8. I’m going to go fish the hocking river in Ohio Friday and I always see a bunch of gar and want to try and catch one what’s the best lures to use for them?
  9. So I’m up in Northeast Ohio while I’m home for spring break and I’m having trouble fishing some of the local ponds. Everything is just starting to thaw and the pond I fish is just about half thawed/half ice. I have to fish from the bank and I usually throw a red eye shad lipless crankbait as a search bait but it seems that even my search bait is inefficient. I was out for 2 hours today in the cold and windy snow and not even so much as a bite. I switched to using a ned rig thinking they might prefer a slower presentation but no luck. I also threw a green pumpkin chatter bait for a while and no luck. I was essentially casting to the ice then reeling in and letting my lure drop from the edge of the ice to the bottom where I expect them to be. Planning on going out later this week, can anyone offer any tactics or better lure suggestions so I can catch my first winter bass? If any of you are familiar, I’m fishing the Walter C. Best Wildlife Preserve. It’s got pretty clear water and the shore is shallow for about 5 feet and then has a steep drop off, deep enough that I can’t see the bottom.
  10. Anyone going to the maumee river walleye run in spring!? I've never been but my buddy is dying to take me, so I bought some waders and yet another setup for jiggin walleyes. Let know me know if anyone's going as I have no clue where to go or park all I know is it is always packed!

  14. Looking to fish some of the FLW Walmart Series (BFL) events in the Buckeye and Hoosier divisions. Mostly the ones on the Ohio River. Can be tempted to fish other divisions/tournaments if all goes well. Me: 30+ years fishing experience and the right attitude on tourney day. You: Close to the same. Objective: Try to win of course but if we don't it's not the end of the world. Reply here and/or send PM. E...

  17. Whats going on guys, just wanted to see what this website was about and asked a question about a lake I will be fishing in WV and got some very solid responses from stfreed, z7master167, and a few others so I figured I'd give and intro. I am majoring in fisheries resources at West Virginia University but I am originally from Cleveland. I have fished all my life but have started to get serious about bass fishing recently and joined the WVU fishing club. I would like to enter some fishing tournaments and maybe even get sponsored some day. To date my biggest fish was a largemouth bass that was just under 6 lbs. at Holiday lakes in Willard OH, but hopefully I will break that record this season. GO EEERRRRSS!!!
  18. I caught this in the scioto river in central ohio while bass fishing. I didn't know there were pike I this river. Any thoughts on confirming the species on this? The spots on the fins make me think pike. Sorry he's on the ground, he flopped off the hook after I landed him.
  19. My name's Josh. I'm always willing to talk fishing, but I'd rather just GO fishing. I've been fishing my whole life. It is something my dad made sure he passed down to me. Although his life was shortened, I'm thankful for every minute we were able to fish together. In fact (side note) I am working on putting a design together for a tattoo in his honor. I was thinking a spinnerbait with his initials on one of the blades. Anyways, I'll see you all around the forums, and I hope to contribute to the cause whenever possible. Bass Wishes Lunker_Buster
  20. Hey everyone, im 16 and currently living in Ohio, but visit to PA at least every other weekend, my dad fishes too but works during the week. 23. Hi, I was wondering if anyone has fished at Rocky Fork Lake in Ohio? I am going to be fishing there in late march and have never fishing there before. If you have fishing there i had a couple of questions... What worked best? Where did you go on the lake? What time of year did you fish there? How did you do? What was the weather like? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
