  1. Just ordered this reel and was looking to get some more user-info on it. Got it in the 6.3:1 gear ratio paired with a P5 Daemos mainly for chatterbaits. Anyone got a review? Thanks, Umair

  3. So I just got a baitcasting setup and I'm a pretty casual fisherman so I have no clue what I'm doing. I've read all the articles and such and adjusted my spool tension to match my bait(I throw mostly senkos which are about 3/8 oz). I have my brakes around 7-9 out of 9 total brakes. However, even with smooth motions I still end up backlashing when I do overhead casts, and it is often mid cast even though I'm thumbing the spool and making it stop before it hits the water. Any tips on how to fix this? Also, using the measure distance tool on google maps, I estimated that in general I'm only casting around 25 yards tops(usually around 20-25 yds). And I've heard that most people can throw most lures around 30-40 yards. Casting distance is needed for me since I fish from the shore on ponds and some areas are inaccessible on foot. On my spinning setup which is just a 50$ combo from bass pro I can cast around 30 yds pretty easily. And I thought that baitcasters in general cast further than spinning rods. As for my equipment, I didn't buy anything super expensive since I'm just a casual fisherman. Rod- *** Fate Chrome 7'1" Medium power Extra fast action. Lure weight 1/4oz to 3/4oz or something like that Reel- KastKing assassin (I heard good reviews about this reel) Line- Powerpro super 8 slick 20lb braid.
  4. Hello everyone, I would like to get into bass fishing. My fishing has all been done in Ireland on lakes and rivers. I’ve been a few times here in California. It seems like Bass is the way to go for me. I’ve been watching a lot of videos on what to use and what not to use. And I really have no idea weather to pick up a bait caster or a spinning rig? There’s so much back and fourth. I’m not looking to land a trophy right off the bat. I’m looking to catch some bass no matter what size and learn the proper techniques and go from there. If you could lend some info that would be great. Also if anyone has any advice on Southern California bass fishing. I heard pyramid lake for fall so far. thanks guys
  5. It's known that a brand new car loses approximately 20% of it's value as soon as you drive it off of the lot. I'm wondering if it is the same for boats. Does a brand new boat drop value immediately like a new car does? And if so, what is the percentage?
  6. Hello folks, We, (My son and I) have been po d hoppers for a long time. We decided to buy a bass boat and take it to the lakes of N.C. We learned we didnt know what it takes to find bass in the lakes we've fished so far. What would work in the various ponds we fished, doesn't necessarily apply. We will be hitting Badin in a week or two and was hoping to get some advise as to where to start, what type of bait we should be throwing. Right now I've been trying the carolina rig and a black zoom trick worm. Also threw the power bait red shad some.
  7. Hey y'all! I'm a 19-year-old relatively new bass fisherman who currently resides near Omaha, Nebraska. I thought I'd get a little involved in the bass community today by creating an account and introducing myself. During my time here I wish to learn some things and also interact with people who are into bass fishing just as much, if not more, than I am ?. Here is some background information about myself and my journey in bass fishing. I assume I didn't have the same kind of start to bass fishing as most other people would, but I could be wrong. I was born and raised near Tampa, Florida, undoubtedly a great fishing area. However I only ever fished when I was fairly young, which included a small neighborhood pond and some cheap plastic rod and reel. I cannot remember catching anything; it was the purpose of it, a memory I will cherish forever. Fast forward through my teen years - I spent the vast majority of my time dedicating myself to competitive video games. "Competitive video games" may sound silly to some of you folks; I suspect the bass community has a far wider range of age, and culture. Nonetheless, I can say that my time committed to competitive gaming (thousands of hours) was well spent; During those years I developed strong cognitive skills, met a wide variety of like-minded individuals from all across the globe (some of which have turned out to be some of my best friends) and scored a little cash on the side as well. I'm sorry if this went a little off course, but I figured I could provide some insight into a different type of culture or lifestyle that maybe some fisherman have never had the chance - or wanted to - know a little bit more about. During September of 2017, my family and I decided to move up to a small town near Omaha, Nebraska. Part of the reason was because of Hurricane Irma and the animosity of the outcome of our situation had we stayed. A couple years after moving up, around the summer of 2019 (I was 18), I was re-introduced to fishing again by my grandfather. We started small and simple; live worms on some cheap Wal-Mart combo poles. We would catch some bluegill, maybe a catfish or two. Some time during these early days I hooked up on a Largemouth. I remember how exhilarating it was to fight this fish and try to land him on a cheap rig. Everything from the bite, hook, and release was fun and intriguing. I would say after that encounter, as well as the long summer ahead of me and a conveniently close pond, my love for bass fishing sparked. Over the summer and into late fall, all the way up until the start of winter, I spent most of my time fishing the aforementioned pond. I would almost say I was obsessed. I absolutely loved trying out all the lures I had no idea existed, all the different methods, learning about how the fish react and move. If I wasn't on the pond for 4+ hours trying out new things I learned, I was researching YouTube videos, forums, whatever, to try and learn more and more about the sport of bass fishing. Eventually I started to slowly get better. I basically self-taught myself on bass fishing; Albeit the vast amount of resources I was allowed to explore and learn from. Nearing winter, I had accumulated some nice fishing equipment - a $200 Lew's bait caster (a gift from my Grandfather) many lures, a nice Cabela's bag and hat. Along with the equipment I also accumulated some great knowledge of bass fishing - I learned a lot. I had a lot of fun during this time frame as well, which to me was the most important thing. Sitting on a bench under the shade on a peaceful Fall day, just me, the fish, and my thoughts. After waiting all of Winter without fishing (?) it's now nearing spawning season in my area. I cannot wait to get back out on the water and continue to develop my skills and have some fun. Hopefully in the future I will have the privilege to own a bass boat and invest more of myself into this sport. To me there is nothing quite as exciting as hooking up and fighting a fish, and when you land them that self satisfaction is awesome. Please, take some time to say hello in the comments if you'd like! If you would like to know anything else about me or my experience with bass fishing (as long as it's not too personal) feel free to ask. ? Also feel free to inform me on any mistakes in the text, as I rarely post on forums. Sorry if the use of bold and italics are too overwhelming ? That's it. Thanks for reading if you did, I appreciate your interest. I hope I get the chance to talk to some of you! Happy fishing everyone, and good-luck! My PB: (Sorry if incorrect handling, please inform!)
  8. I am sure you guys get this a lot but hear me out. I am new-ish to fishing and i want some advice. I have only gone a few times when i was 12 and now i am 28 and want to get a little more serious. I live in south east Michigan and I want to know what a good setup is for bass fishing. I am talking rods reels tackle and general information on bass fishing. I.E. feeding times good water temperatures and stuff like that. I am going to start out on land but my uncle has a 16ft aluminum v hull boat I can use to do some good boat fishing. My starting budget for tackle rods and reels is $200 but I can spend more if it makes sense. Thank you everyone.
  9. At Cabelas today and saw these new red packaged Whopper Ploppers and the back said new, and improved, weed resistant convex tail. But a hard look it appears to be the same as the original. Sorry the first pic is so cropped, had to crop it to post. What's up?
  10. I'm going on a camping trip to new Hampshire next week, and the campsite sits right on a little hole called "Moore's Pond." From some research I have found there's definitely smallies in this pond, but that's really all I know about it. Has anyone else ever fished here?
  11. What's up y'all? Hope y'all have been enjoying a successful year of fishing so far. I'm working on a project, and wanted some input. Since this forum is so helpful I thought that I would turn here. Is there any one gadget, or item you would like to see or have in the industry that hasn't been designed yet? Let's hear it! Thanks for the input! Happy Fishing! Tight lines. -Rob
  12. I came across these crankbaits a while back. They look interesting, but a bit gimmicky. https://www.piranafishinglures.com/ There price seems a bit high. I could get a a couple nice cranks of good quality for the price of one of these. What do you guys think of them? Has anyone tried them? How well do they work?
  13. Hello, I was wondering how everyone organizes their non-opened lures or new lures still in the package? Without getting them misshaped or rusted? Thanks Martin Lures I need to find a way to organize...
  14. Hello all! I'm new to the site and fairly new to bass fishing. I'm from East Central Indiana. This summer is when I really got back into fishing/bass fishing. I grew up fishing for about anything I could get on a hook. Always wanted to get into bass fishing but never took the time to try. This summer I decided to start getting back into fishing after not fishing for several years. It's been a blast. Looking forward to meeting some new people and learning as much as I possibly can about bass fishing. Don't really wanna talk about my PB. Nothing to be excited about. ?
  15. Hello everyone! I picked up a fishing pole at Walmart on a whim that I wanted to try and catch a fish. Little did I know I would be opening the door to something I really enjoyed. Since my first catch in June of 2018 (a catfish), I have been very actively reading and watching videos about fishing and going fishing at least 2 to 3 times a week. I have pretty much become a fish-a-holic. In July I decided to try and catch a Largemouth to see what the hype was about and I was hooked into fishing and I knew then I wanted to compete in a tournament. With the help of a couple of anglers around me that were already competing I began building my collection of lures and practicing constantly with them. With the hopes to compete in 2019. I heard about this website in several videos I had watched so I decided to come on over and check it out in hopes to network and meet others who are excited in Bass fishing.
  16. I saw a sponsored instagram post by Realtree Fishing Lures... Did anyone know they did fishing lures? Based on their instagram profile they're new. I searched on regular Realtree's website and found an article with a link to realtreefishinglures.com so its definitely legit. The lures look nice. Has anyone tried any of them?!
  17. I have recently just got into fishing and I am very new at pretty much all of this. I rarely know any good spots (any spots at all actually) to fish except busy parks. I am looking for nice spots to fish primarily bass. I really would like to find a clear water spot, however I’m just looking for anything. I don’t have access to a boat. Thanks for the help in advance.
  18. Hello, I've had my eye on this site for a few years and have been meaning to join. My Dad loves to fish, and started me off fishing when I was about 4. I learned to fish and swim in the Ohoopee River. I was raised using spincast, and then switched to spinning rod. I haven't fished in the past 7 or 8 months, I relocated to another town in Southeast Georgia, where I don't really know anyone with a fishing spot. I've been through a lot in that 7-8 month time period, and I'm recovering from some injuries too. I purchased a fly rod from a pawn shop, I bought a couple of flies from Walmart and I intend to buy some line, leader, and a tippet, and learn how to use it. It's great to be here, I look forward to meeting everybody.
  19. How many casts do you guys generally give an area before moving on? Say you bring 3 or 4 rods with you, do you try to use them all before moving on to the next spot? How and when do you decide to try a different lure or a different color?? I’m new to lure fishing and I find myself getting stuck throwing one lure over and over again even if im not getting anything on it.
  20. well guys i have been pouring my own jigs for a good bit now but i was only interested in ball jigs with a screw lock for specks with no weed guard, but as ive completely fell in love with bass fishing, i have thought more and more about making my own bass jigs to sell and kinda create something i can have a part of. i have ordered a few new jig molds, but i had a few questions about the modifying molds, as well as the whole skirt thing in general ills tart with the skirts, is there a general idea with who to go to to buy skirts from? im going to be making saltwater based bass jigs for specks and reds as well, and im gonna need some pretty different colors, and im just kinda shooting around google when looking, maybe you guys can point me to the best source for them so i dont search a hundred sites for something i might not even be happywith. and as for jig modifying, i really like the way the sixth sense heads get through cover with the swimjig, and i was thinking maybe i could modify the poison tale jig mold to sort of come close to the same performance as the design on those, im pretty good with tools and things like that, so is it worth it to modify a jig, or should i just get a custom one or be happy with the do it molds? sorry about the quality of the post, my computer lags all of my text so it makes it hard to actually get a good post done haha. thanks in advance guys edit:if you have somewhere you can point me for good advice other than good youtube videos and things i would love to know, even personal advice and other forums are cool, ive been researching this for a good while now and im always interested in knowing more.
  21. So I am looking for a new casting reel, the most I would like to spend is 80 but I can do 90 if it is worth it. I am looking to put it on a medium heavy rod. I have had the abu garcia black max before and wasnt too impressed and would like something nicer. So far, I have looked at the Abu Garcia Orra sx, *** origin A, Lews Laser MG speed spool and shimano caenan. Any advice on which of these reels are better than the other or new suggestions are appreciated
  22. I am a relatively new fisherman and love the information on this forum. Unfortunately, i'm also a broke a** college student and need to upgrade from my 10 year old $25 combo. I'm looking for a solid MHF 7-7'2 rod ( needs to be good for all around fishing, which is why i picked this), for under $80. I would prefer a solid $40-$60 rod, but if its a great deal will consider up to 80, so please refrain from the "spend $20 more and get a ..." as i really don't have the cash.. Also looking for a quality reel, same range. Any sales on nice equipment would be VITAL (and preferred), or any combos that offer a solid deal on rod and reel as well. I just missed out on a $60 sellus and sedona combo at dicks and am very ticked, so that is pretty much my standard for deals, I figured someon on here can help me find where the major deals are. Thanks guys, happy fishing
  23. Hey All, I have been lurking on this forum for a few months now and finally decided to post and ask for help. I have been fishing since I was a kid (I'm 27 now) and recently got into freshwater fishing seriously (specifically for bass) a few months ago. To give some background I live at the beach in Monmouth County NJ and fish mostly local ponds and lakes. Sunset Lake, Deal Lake, Takanasee Lake, Turkey Swamp, Manasquan Reservoir, Spring Lake, Forge Pond and Marlu Lake to name a few spots. I don't have a boat so it is always shore fishing. One of my first times out I landed a 3lb bass at the bridge on Sunset lake using a 3.5" keitech swimbait with a red jighead. Ever since then I have not been able to catch another good size fish. I have tried different color senkos, crank baits, spinner baits, more keitechs, topwater frogs, and even rooster tails out of desperation. The only thing I have managed to catch any other Bass with are some little chartreuse swimbait minnows but they are always like 5-6 inch little guys. I read through the "Guaranteed to Catch" Thread and others offering tips on how to fish certain baits. I also searched for threads about NJ fishing to try and follow some of their tips specifically for this area but nothing seems to be working. I know this is how it works sometimes but boy is it deflating to go out day after day and not catch. Typically I go out in the morning before work (6-9) and then out again after work until sunset. Part of the reason it is so frustrating is because I am fishing spots where I see fish hitting topwater but they never seem to want what I have. Anyways I apologize for the rant. I am hoping some people can offer any help. Thanks. -Alex
  24. So i'm new to bass fishing and I have only ever caught bass on the senko worms on a wacky rig. However, everytime I set the hook, it ends up coming out around the nostrils. How should I change my hook setting technique. Also today I caught a bass and I broke its mouth do you think it will live?
  25. Hey guys, just saw that Bass Pro has a new version of the Pro Qualifier. 1.5 oz lighter than the original. Looks a little sleeker and updated which it needed to be. Same price though...that's good. May have to try one out.
