  1. I am planning on using my 6'6" Medium spinning rod and 6' ML spinning rod for more river fishing in NC in the Charlotte area. I want to spool the reels with 6 lb test but should I spool it with fluro or mono? I would consider 10 or 15 lb braid to fluro or mono but I don't know how to tie the knots and sometimes using a barrel swivel can be a pain. My goal would be to catch smallies but no idea if that's even realistic in my area so would be happy to use mostly the ML rod and catch any species I can in the rivers. Thanks for the help!
  2. Hello all! I am new to the forum and have many questions. We recently moved to Apex, NC, which is outside of Raleigh. I am getting into bass fishing again and would like to know if anyone here has any recommendations of places to fish. I do not currently have a boat so I will be restricted to the bank. Thanks!
  3. I have no idea why, but I have gotten skunked 3 times in a row. I am from WI, fishing in NC. Recently moved here. I’m fishing on Shearon Harris Lake. I have been fishing mostly spinners and Texas rigs. What am I doing wrong?! I see boats around me catching bass. Why am I not???
  4. I have been bass fishing for a few years now and am wanting to start doing tournaments. I'm looking for a boater in the nearby area that needs a backseater. I am willing to drive and pay for gas/fees.
  5. The wife and I are relocating to Asheville from the Seattle area where smallmouth dominate. Based on my initial research, I'm seeing that bronzes and trout are also the dominant species in western NC, but there doesn't seem to be much info on largemouth. I highly doubt the largie populations could be any worse than they are in WA State, but I can't seem to find much info. I have to sell my boat before we move, but I'll pick up an aluminum ASAP. Any suggestions for small water fisheries or those accessible from shore would be greatly appreciated. Truthfully, any info on the area at all would be great. Thanks! -jerry
  6. Hello, does anyone have any access to private ponds around Shelby,NC? I am in college in Boiling Springs, and I'm having a hard time getting my fishing "fix" since I am from out of town. Ive been run off a few places that were promising, but now the only place left is a golf course with 6-8in bass. Anyone that has any info let me know. I also wouldn't mind driving in to SC if need be. Langdon
  7. I'm having a tough time catching fish from the banks of lakes during the summer. Can anyone give me some advice on where and what to fish to get some bites?
  8. So I was wondering if anyone in this area did any fishing from a kayak and where? I bought my Kayak with the intentions of fishing in the shallow creeks of the rivers and the MANY ponds I have near me, but I am looking for a group or even just a person to fish with. I'm new to Yak fishing and just bought my first kayak so it seems a bit dangerous to be going it alone. Anyone know of any kayak fishing groups or anyone interested in going out on the water? I'm an avid bass fisherman, so fishing isn't an issue, it's really just kayaking in general (my wife brought up the point, I just realized she was right) alone seems really stupid at my novice experience level. I appreciate any information anyone can give me or any direction anyone can point me in. Thanks in advance. -Jeff
  9. I am making a move in the next 4 months from Central PA to the Raleigh-Durham, NC area because my love of bass fishing has turned into an ever-growing passion and a huge part of my life. I know after reading that last sentence some already think I am in pursuit of a professional bass fishing career.. and although its a dream for most of us, that is NOT my goal. My goals for this move is to be in a warmer area more conducive for bass fishing, network with other anglers, learn as much as I can about how to successfully catch em', and fish local tourneys (at least to start). To get a feel of what level of angler I am, I would consider myself at an moderate to advanced skill level and fished only a couple club tournaments so far up in PA. I planned on fishing every local tournament this year with my current club, but.. well.. I'm hoping to get my 2015 deposit back! I wanted to throw a post up because I am looking for some help on what to expect, good local bass clubs, resources, or anything else to help me out before getting on the water. I've done some research about the surrounding lakes and its awesome to see all the water within a 30 minutes' drive. As you may know, in Central PA, (other than the Susquehanna River) it takes hours to get to a waterway the size of Falls or Jordan. Other than the 3 obvious Falls, Jordan, and Harris, I saw others such as Randleman and John H. Kerr around an hour's drive away. So any other recommendations on preferred waterways in the area would be a huge help. And just for more specifics, I'll be living in Durham and will be hauling along my 14' aluminum Tracker with a 15hp prop and 55lb thrust electric. So when it comes to lakes, it would be nice to know which waterways or areas where it could be unsafe to run my little rig. Not that I can't handle some turbulence, I just don't want to get myself into a bad situation if I can help it. All in all, I'm just looking to enjoy this experience and do some serious bass fishing while learning all I can. So any help would be much appreciated!
  10. I will be going on a trip to Lake Lure during late March with my family, and I was wondering if anyone on here has fished it before?
  11. Greetings everyone! My name is Mitchell Frazier. I just joined Bass Resource, although I've been reading forums on here for the past couple years. I've been fishing my whole life, but fell in love with bass fishing over the course if the past 5 years. I hope I can learn from everyone on here, as well as be able to share some of my own knowledge. Other than that, I'm looking it begging co-angling in tournaments in NC here very soon. Tight lines and God bless to all!
