  1. Hello everyone, I'm a first time boat owner and I have to buy a new trolling motor for my boat. Is it possible to buy a trolling motor with the "Spot Lock" ability without having to dump another $3 grand on an Ultrex? The company/ brand isn't that important to me... I just want to know what kind of trolling motor models are out there that can do the spot lock thing, and those that are perhaps cheaper (ie Motor Guide). I know the Ultrex does, Im pretty sure theres a "power drive 2" from minn kota does as well but that also seems top of the line... What about a Fortrex? Can a minn kota edge do spot lock? Thanks for clarifying
  2. I got a 16.5 side console that weighs 600 pounds, right now i'm looking at either the Power Drive or the IX3 but i want to know what people think about both trolling motors.
  3. I've done all this and I'm still getting noise when I run the motor: Common ground from starting battery to negative post on 24v battery Lowrance is wired directly to starting battery. Clamp on ferrite chokes on all wires. Transducer mounted on transom, with wire running down driver side, and tm power wires are running down passenger side. 2 things I haven't tried: using a standalone battery for the depth finder, and disconnecting the common ground and on board charger. Any suggestions?
  4. I cannot, for the life of me, find a video of how to replace steering cables on my Motorguide. I'm more of a visual learner, which is why I'm looking for a video. My google-foo is off, does anyone have a resource they can share? Thanks in advance!
  5. I'm in need of a VariMAX 24v head assembly. I purchased this motor fm Cabela's in 2009. It is model number 9B847018, the part number is 879364T06. I don't know for sure the year this series of motor was dropped from the Motorguide line up but they have stopped stocking repair parts already. On the motorguide websight I can search for service centers within 150 miles of my location. Well, I'm in central Maine and there is not a lot of anything, letl along bass boat equipment service centers, within 150 miles! I e-mailed Motorguide and asked for a list of service centers around the nation but they do not have a list available to send to me. They insist that I just put in city, state names and search within 100 miles of each until I find one. I wondering if any of ya'll could give me the names and phone numbers of any motorguide service centers in your locales. Or maybe you know of a trolling motor repair shop that might have some left over parts or parts motors. I won't be shipping my trolling motor to anybody but calling to find out if they have any left over head assemblies from the time this series was made. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Effie4Bass Got to come up with a more appropriate screen name.
  6. Hey guys, I am a long time browser on the site, but I cannot find the answer to a question I have been searching for so I decided to sign up and ask you guys for your knowledge. I am looking to purchase a Motorguide Xi5 and a Lowrance HDS Gen2 or Gen3 for my boat this coming season and I was wondering if you guys know of any place I get a combo price/deal on purchasing the two together? I read somewhere of a deal that if both units were purchased the gateway link cable is included for free, but I cannot find a link to the sale. If you guys can help me out, much appreciated. Thanks.
  7. Today was the first day out on the water with our "new" boat. It's only powered by a trolling motor. It is a Motorguide Varimax 24v 75lb thrust motor and I have two EverStart Maxx Marine 29 deep cycle twelve volt batteries. We were out for about 2 hours (first time with batteries and trolling motor, they are all new) and the motor stopped working. The digital display on the trolling motor still worked, but the motor did not function. The circuit was correct and clean. I went home and charged the one battery and once complete I used a multimeter and got a reading of about 13.30 right after charging, the battery that was not charged yet gave a reading of about 12.4 (I thought 12.6 was normal.) When we hooked both of them up to the charger it showed a low battery percentage, but the volts were still "normal" (according to my multimeter), I assume. I am charging the second battery right now. What do you think my problem is the battery or motor, what should I do? We had to be towed back in on our first day on the boat...what fun. Also I'm using a DieHard charger on a fast 10a charge, is this correct or do I need a different charger/setting. Also do Deep Cycle batteries lose there charges and how fast. Do I need something to maintain the battery at all times? Sorry for all of the questions, I'm kind of agitated and freaking out since it had to happen the first time ever out. Thanks, Zach
