  1. I am newish to fishing and recently purchased a KVD CC4 rod with a bc reel on FB Marketplace. I have recently fallen in love throwing chatterbaits with trailers, and read that the CC4 rod (made for medium cranking apparently) would be good for a blade jig rod as well. The rod is rated for 1/4-1/2 oz lures; today I went to my local pond, threw on a 3/8 oz chatterbait and a storm largo 3.5in and started casting. I noticed that the rod has a lot of bend to the top of it, like it's being loaded while casting. Am I overreacting or is my lure combo too heavy for the rod? I couldn't find what the actual plastic weighs unfortunately Thanks for any insight
  2. Hey all, Here's my question. "You get to put together a small fishing kit. You get to fish only on a lake that has all of the basic freshwater species in it (panfish, bass, trout, catfish, pike, pickerel, muskie, gar, bowfin, carp, etc.). You can pick only three different lures to use. They should be lures that are able to catch multiple fish species (not just 3 different bass lures, or a trout, a bass, and a panfish lure, or whatever). You can also include enough terminal tackle to make one rig, if your lure is a soft plastic that requires it." Let's hear some answers!
  3. Hey all, I can plan on getting 4 whopper plopper 75s for my clear water lakes up north here. The smallies smash my poppers so these should have success. The problem is I have 5 options so if you could help remove one that probably isn’t necessary that would be appreciated. - Perch - Munky Butt - I know it - Bone - Loon Ones you think would work in stained waters as well are nice because I fish largies down south. Thanks for any help
  4. What Shad pattern Rapala DT-6 have you had the most success with or is your favorite? The main ones I see fished are Disco Shad, Pearl Grey Shiner, and Penguin.
  5. Hey guys, just wondering if anybody knows anything about this lure please?
  6. I seem to have become a lure addict. I can’t seem to quit buying old tackle boxes of lures. I don’t know what it is but I get some kind of thrill going through these old tackle boxes and identifying these old lures. I know I will probably never find anything of any great value. I just enjoy finding out dates and details of when changes took place in the lure over the years. I have spent so much time looking at lure pictures because I have no way of looking them up by name. So I am hopping that som of you can see a picture and say I know what that one is. Or if you have one you need help with post it it may be one I finally located and know what it is. Or someone else is sure to know. I’m thinking some of these old timers may not remember their wives name but they can sure tell you what lure they caught that 10lb Bass on. Thanks for you help in keeping these old lures alive. Booger Hollow Bass (Ron) I’ll start this off with a River Runt. But it doesn’t seem to be a Heddon. It has no name and the hook hanger is different. The bill scoop is one piece that goes alway back to the front hook. Also like to know color name. Lippy Joe River
  7. Okay, right up front I'll admit that this idea is a little out there. Strange ideas often run through my head. More than once I've been fishing early in the morning on the lake with ripple-less water all around me and seen a bug buzzing on the surface unable to get airborn again. Sometimes it's a junebug, sometimes some other beetle-ish insect. And more than once I've seen fish quickly be drawn to it and snap it up. So, sort of like a surface, stationary, buzzbait right? I had this wacky idea. This, is a pierced barbell tongue vibrator. I'll leave the rest to your imagination. On Amazon or ebay btw. From my understanding (uh... not from experience) they are waterproof, stainless steel, and will vibrate quite noticeably for 1-3 hours using an inexpensive button battery. they weigh 0.32 oz. and are very small, about the size of a large pill capsule. Cost varies from as low as $1.50. I've been thinking of fashioning some sort of June bug looking encasement, cutting off the post, and incorporating it into the june bug complete with hooks and such. A strange lure build indeed. Let it sit on the surface with some light mono line and see what happens. Just thought I share my thoughts.
  8. Looking for suggestions on lure retrievers. Some for 10- 20 depths that works when wind is blowing and boat control is tuff. Big order i know. have many in the past but none that could depend on. Thanks
  9. I want to start hand tying jigs, buzzbaits, and spinnerbaits but I am not sure what lb braid to use to do so. Most of the jigs are about 1/4 oz - 3/4 oz, buzzbaits and spinnerbaits around 1/4 oz - 1/2 oz, but the most common weight for all being 3/8 oz.
  10. Hello, Just wondering what was the most expensive lure that you have ever bought, and if you have lost it? Martin
  11. Hello yall, Just a very simple question about this (match made in heaven) paired jig with its trailer... Should I move the craw trailer a bit more up? Thanks in advance, Martin Sierra If anyone is wondering, its a 1/4oz Stanley Finesse Jig in Watermelon Orange color, paired with a 3in Strike King Baby Rage Craw in Bama Bass color.
  12. Hi guys, long time reader first time poster here, After 2 years of using my hand-me-down baitcasting rod off of my grandpa, it finally kicked the bucket and snapped into 3 peices. So im in the market for a new one. However I don’t know a massive deal about which rods are “better” or which rod to use for which specific purpose. I should probably mention that I am from Australia not America so I know it’s a little bit different. But I’m sure it’s the same sort of thing I’m not stressed about importing a rod from Japan or America I just need some suggestions. I am mainly throwing small inline spinners or small soft plastics to catch Redfin - “European perch”, smaller Murray cod or silver/golden perch. I have a heavier rod already for when I’m targeting larger fish so I’m in the market for a “finesse” baitcasting rod any suggestions would be appreciated thanks a lot ? I don’t REALLY have a budget but obviously I wouldn’t be overly keen on getting something worth $800 and preferably a 2 peice for travel purposes. I’ve been searching for a week and getting sick of using my overly heavy slow action rod haha. Thanks in advance
  13. I just finished my attempt to create a dying gizzard shad. Any opinions or tips for me? Just curious what would be the most you guys would be willing to spend on a bait like this one?
  14. Ok guys I need help! I went fishing and all bass were hitting were dragonflys. I've looked everywhere trying to find a badass Dragonfly topwater lure and can't seem to find one so I decided in making one. How would you guys make one?
  15. Has anyone ever thrown the whopper plopper 90 on medium light extra fast action rod before? The rod size I have is 6’9
  16. Recently i went to a small pond in the rocky mountains and there was an abundance of small bluegill in the pond. I contacted the HOA where the pond was located and they told me its never been stocked. What are the chances that there are bass or any other species beside bluegill in the pond?
  17. Personally, I've never fished with a lure worth more than 20 bucks. I wouldn't even think of buying a lure if it crosses the $30 mark. I have combos that are cheaper than some swimbaits out there. Is there even any point to buying such an expensive lure? I mean, bass don't really care if your lure is worth 10 dollars or 200 dollars. How much better will an action get on a 200 dollar swimbait than a regular 20 dollar swimbait? Not to mention, just the fear of losing that lure will drive me nuts, to the point of me never even using it when I'm out on the water. It's like buying a supercar just to park it in your garage.
  18. Where I live it's cloudy and about 55 - 65 degrees for the high most days. (65 today) What kind of lure would be best for these conditions? (I fish a small pond with pretty murky water) I just haven't had much luck recently using spinnerbaits, texas rigs, etc.
  19. Hey everbody, this question is directed to new Hampshire swimbait fishermen. I'm getting into swimbaits and I'm looking for a swimbait specific rod, I keep going back and forth between dobyns fury 795 sb 1-5 oz and fury 806 sb 2-8 oz. I'm planning on using 6 inch line thru trout spro bbz 1 jr Huddleston 68. But not sure if the 8 inch Huddleston and and s waver 200 and other baits around 8 inch work good in NH. I know if I'm going to be using the lighter lures then the 795 would be good. But I'm looking for suggestions on the larger 8 inch baits also would work around these parts. If so then the 806 would be better. I mostly fish ponds and some lakes in the southern area of the state out of a Jon boat. I guess the question is, do 8 inch baits work in NH like they do in other states that have DD fish. What would you swimbait guys suggest, heavier rod and bigger baits or lighter rod and around 6 inch baits? Thanks in advance.
  20. Hey, I never really fished in heavy wood cover before because the fishing for my local species is very different. Caught all my Bass on Spinnerbaits and Crankbaits and Worms. The cover consists mainly out of old, isolated, half- or completetly submerged trees with thick branches and big laydowns around rock bottom. Like here: I want to use 20# AbrazX on my Avid MHF. The Bass here are not getting really big (8lb+ is huge!). So there is 3 Methods I seperated but I dont really know what to use/ which one has the best hookup ratio and the lowest snagging ratio in this type of Cover? - Flippin Jig? Very simple but maybe too big profile, have my eyes on the Ike Mini flip Jig. - Texas Rig with EWG and bobber stop - Texas Rig with flipping Hook snell-knotted and bobber stop paired with beaver baits like Baby DBomb and the Berkley Pit Boss. I plan on fishing lower weights first on the edges of the Cover and then get down in it with the bigger bullets. Water temp will be around 68 to 77 degrees F. (20-25 deg C) So how should I rig this up?
  21. How many casts do you guys generally give an area before moving on? Say you bring 3 or 4 rods with you, do you try to use them all before moving on to the next spot? How and when do you decide to try a different lure or a different color?? I’m new to lure fishing and I find myself getting stuck throwing one lure over and over again even if im not getting anything on it.
  22. Can someone identify the this lure ? it does have a broken Lip (driver 4 to 5 ft.)
  23. I would really like to know the name and manufacture of the attached lure. Perhaps someone has purchased one recently and could recall where they purchase one of these from?. The Lure in the Pictures has a broken Lip , small lip--maybe a 4 to 5 foot driver
  24. Anybody have any idea what brand this lure is? I had good luck in the surf down in Florida with it last year, and I’m hoping to pick up a few more before I go to the beach this year. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks!
  25. Need a little help from the group. I just bought a house that's blocks from the Glades and a major canal that runs from the Glades easterly towards the shore smack between Coral Springs and Tamarac. Mostly bank fishing or a little pier open for public use. However I'm inexperienced especially in fresh/brackish waters and I'm curious as to what kinds of fish I can expect to find, baits or lures to use? Line to use? Sinkers or floaters? Any specific knot? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm dyeing to learn what'll become my new fishimg spots
