Ione, Calif. -- A new record for large mouth bass caught at Lake Camanche was set on Jan. 26, when Lonnie Owens Sr. of Galt landed a 15.2-pound lunker in the main body of the lake, while using a swimbait toad thrasher lure. The fish was 28" long and 25" in girth. After landing the bass, Owens released it back into the lake.
Twenty-two of the 25 biggest large mouth bass (LMB) ever caught were taken in California, reports fishingnetwork.net. The largest LMB ever landed was a 22 lb., 4 oz. monster caught in 1932 at Montgomery Lake, Ga. California’s record is a 22.5 lb. fish caught in 1991 at Castaic Lake in Southern California. The previous Lake Camanche record was 15 pounds for a fish caught in the winter of 2010.
