  1. Anyone in the Kansas City area and know some on Kill Creek Lake? I've only been there once besides going as a little kid. Just wanting to get some tips on the lake.
  2. Hello KC area anglers, I'll be visiting the KC area this week and was going to do some bank bass fishing in the evening for a few hours. Does anyone have any recommendations? I've read previous threads that there isn't much bank bass fishing in the area but Lake Jacomo and James A Reed lakes were mentioned. I've been to Lake Jacomo once and found a couple of spots where I've caught a couple decent fish from the bank but wasn't sure if it was worth trying the James A Reed lakes instead. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Tom
  3. Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum (and the general area), lifetime bass fisherman. I've been out of the hobby for the most part the better part of the last five years, getting married, raising young kids that needed a lot of attention. Things have slowed down a little for us though and I'm hitting the water again. Originally from Wichita, I fished the heck out of the neighborhood ponds growing up and hit the excellent ponds and SFL's in southeastern Kansas. There doesn't seem to be the plethora of great spots in this part of the state, but I'm new here; I could be dead wrong. I don't know many people in this neck of the woods, so private property holes, which used to be my bread and butter, are out. I'm wondering, what are some decent smaller lakes to try either from a small boat or from the shore in the Topeka/Lawrence area? I'd love to take my almost 3yr old son with me sometimes, but he's not going to do well on a long trip, at a big lake, hours away from home. I've fished Shawnee Co. SFL and caught some nice, but pretty sparse fish. I've also tried Lake Shawnee in Topeka and Lonestar Lake south of Lawrence. Both netted some fish, albeit small. Thanks for the input in advance! This seems like a great community.
  4. Guys I hope this is okay to post in here if not tell me I'll get it removed. I am looking for topo maps for the local lakes in KC area from Hillsdale, Milford, Perry, Clinton, to La Cynge sized and all the way down to Lake Lenexa, SMP, and others. I just got a fishing kayak, and want to gain as much advanced knowledge as I can. I "think" I have checked out USGS website as much as I can and cant find these. Any help in tracking these down would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  5. Got the best birthday present so far, Wife let me purchase first ever water vessel, guess all my "subtle hints" finally pushed her over the edge. She said we both had to be able to use it. After researching and finally making a decision, went with the Jackson Big Tuna in Forest camo. Will be getting this on the water next weekend hopefully, it is going to be burning a whole in that work bench. Not going to fish first time out, just get it one the water and paddle to see how it handles. If anyone in the KC area fishes the local smaller lakes (Lenexa, Olathe, Gardner, Johnson County parks) let me know. It would be nice to go with some guys that have more experience to learn from. I wont feel comfortable with bigger lakes till I have made a few trips on smaller ones, but eventually hope to get out on Hillsdale, La Cyange, and other local lakes that are good for bass fishing. Any tips you guys can give me on kayak fishing to get me started would be greatly appreciated... Items I still have to purchase: PFD Paddles (yeah two there are no free rides, at least i hope) Items to consider: Anchor Trolley Brush Clip Anchor (unsure of type) Paddle leash (i think) Rod leashes DIY push pole Fish finder (not for a year or two) Dry box & Battery Mounting options
  6. Hi guys, I live in the Kansas city area. I normally fish a small lake that i can walk to, but my dad made me a pretty good offer. Being spring break and us not going anywhere, he offered to rent a fishing boat (we don't have one) and let us go fishing on a better lake. I have a couple of questions: First, is it a good time of year to go? It would be this coming weekend, 3/15 or 3/17, but we could make it a couple of weeks later if that is better. Next, what is the best lake to go on? The lakes that have rentals include Blue Springs lake, Lake Jacomo, and Smithville lake. Any opinions or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
  7. Hello everyone, I am a new member to the forums, I live in the merriam, KS area. I am a 27 year old, athletic trainer (ie sports medicine) for a local college so my falls and winters are pretty busy. I have been fishing all my life but have never been good at it; I like to fish for bass (large and smallies), crappie, walleye, and/or catfish. I am a shore fisherman, looking at getting a fishing kayak in the near future (most likely a freedom hawk just have to talk the wife into it). I would like to learn from someone who is willing to teach, I don't want handouts. I am purely a recreational fisherman and primarily catch/pic/release, unless I can get into good crappie. Look forward to enjoying the knowledge everyone has.
