  1. I have never had one of the bang o lure with the tail prop. picked one up to try, but was unsure how to retrieve. If you jerk it, the prop spins and the bait dives. If you reel it steady, the bait goes under with prop spinning under water. If you hold the rod high and reel very slow you can keep it on top with the prop spinning slow sometimes. So what is the best way to work this lure? I have heard at times they can be very productive. Please share.
  2. Hello all! I have been bass fishing for a couple years now and I know water temperature is vital to finding bass. So I just want to know, when people are talking about water temps are the referring to the surface temp?
  3. Does anyone have any advice on how to target these fish with a rod and reel? I have researched until my eyes bled without finding anything of substance. Anything would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Hi there everyone, Ive been looking all over the internet for building a bass pond. Ill be possibly moving to Boise Idaho in a few years and will more then likely be purchasing 5 to 50 acres of land... Ive read where you want to at least have an acre of water for a bass pond. But really im looking for some information on all the stuff that will go into building it... The last I found that it would cost about $25,000 for an acre pond... Not to sure how accurate that would be but would love some information if you or anyone else can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it... J.R. Maddox
  5. I know this question has probably been asked multiple times, but how do you guys fish your wacky rigged senko's. And by that I mean the technique you use not how to rig it up or anything like that. Me personally I cast it out and let it sink on slack line and after a bit I'll reel in slack and twitch it multiple times upwards and then let it sink again. Rinse and repeat. So I basically just copy what everyone does but I noticed they usually do it with Texas Rigged Senkos not wacky rigged ones. I was wondering if this is the best technique for getting a fish to bite? I know that you're supposed to let the senko do all the work since it has amazing action. I've also heard of just lifting the rod tip up after letting it sink rather than twitching it up. Which way works better in your opinion? Another question I had was how do O-ring's affect the senko's action? I have been using o-ring's to save my money since senko's rip easily and I noticed the hook goes in along the worm length wise instead of like a t-bone style without the o-ring. Does that affect hookups and the senko's action while falling? And is it fine to keep fishing the same senko even if it gets a little ripped in the middle where the o-ring is? Sometimes the senko gets a little torn up where its sort of dangling but I still use it until the senko either falls off or rips in two. Am I just wasting my time or does a ripped senko not affect the action much?
  6. Gents, first off I want to say this is my first ever post on a forum so here it goes. I will be down in the Havelock, NC area for training for about 11 days. I will have ample free time while down there and want to do some fishing, don't care the species just want to catch what is bighting. I am a avid LMB angler but for this trip I just want to catch fish. I will most likely be on the bank/shore with a slight possibility of a kayak on or very close to MCAS CP. Any input or ideas on locations, lures, baits or setups would be greatly appreciated. The rod/reel arsenal I am bringing will cover anything from fly fishing to a 9ft surf pole. SO with that being said HOOK me up LOL.
  7. New to this forum. I am looking to rebuild a 12ft Polar Kraft Jon boat. It is is a flat bottom boat and I am wondering if anyone has removed the bench seats to lay down flooring and pedistal seats. I want to know if that is a difficult process and what it requires. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
  8. This past weekend I went and bought myself a pretty nice kayak. Went the next day to try it out in a small river that runs through a city next to my town. I fish here quite regularly...and so does everyone else. I have always bank fished it and had decent luck catching some small perch and some 1/2 pound smallies. When my friend and I floated down in our kayaks, we found a couple holes where we spotted smallies in the 2-3 pound range. The only problem is that they seem so pressured and skittish that they ignore anything thrown their way. Recent pollution of this river has killed the crawfish population. The few baitfish that I have seen were kind of a smoke minnow color. I caught some smaller ones on a 3 inch ghost minnow colored jerkbait but I couldn't get the bigger ones to even think about it.The water depth is from 1-4 feet where we saw the bigger fish. Thought about just trying a fat juicy nightcrawler next time. If anybody has experience with these kinds of fish and has any tips or suggestions please feel free to share! Any and all advice is appreciated! Thank y'all and tight lines!
  9. Hi. We have several pond with murky water around the area I live. I've been catching bluegill/sunfish/panfish in June, but not nothing bites. Any advice on tackle, rig, bait, location, etc., would be appreciated. P.S. I use black chartreuse grub with gold sparkles, red/chartreuse tubes, small artificial minnows (kind of like the fluke) - everithing is 1 1/2 inch. Some times I rig it with split shot, sometimes with jig or spinnerbait. And also I've tried powerbait.
  10. Today went fishing on a small, stained water pond. I didn't get even a single bite! Don't understand why. It's spring, warm water, spawn. This how I fished:started with topwater popper (green back yellow/orange belly). Next: gold/grey ratling shalow crankbait. Next: green/white mid range diving crankbait. Next: Spinner bait small colorado blade with black/gold fflakes chartruse teil and the other one was baby bass. Next: Brown jig with KVD cray fish (I guess) with blue and green flakes. Next: texas riged junebug trickworm. Next: Dropshot stickbait watermelon with gold and green flakes. I tried different speeds and retrives etc. I don't understand what have I done wrong. Not even a single bite.
  11. Does anyone know anything about carp fishing seasons on the East Coast? When is prespawn, spawning period, post spawning, best fishing time of the year. I had three fishing trips to a local ponds, seen carp jumping but didn't get it to bite. Any suggestions? I used dough ball with strawberry jello, sweet potato, bread. Nothing worked so far. May be it's still to cold? Thanks.
  12. Hey all, Does anybody know of ANYONE who makes their own hollow body frogs? I have an idea of something that may work, but I won't be able to build that for a while (just bought some 20/0 circles - HUGE!). I've been searching for a while, but I can't find anyone who makes their own. My idea is: Make a wooden shape of a hollow-body frog, about the size needed Coat it plenty of times in liquid rubber, and let it dry Once it is dry, I will have to cut it down the belly, and then seal it back together (this will be a good time for placing hooks, weights, rattles, etc) I will build the original one with white rubber, and then use dyes to color it when it is finished Hopefully it works! Any ideas? Hook 'em up ~Drew
  13. Hello all I have had my Bayliner 184 s/f for several years and have just started using this boat for fishing. After reading all the post, I have decided to focus my attention on Lake Tobosofkee in Macon. While I have occasionally caught, at the most, 1 bass on a given day using a crank bait, I have lost several other bass, which I understand is part of it. The other day, around 7 pm, I decided to try night fishing. I broke out all the lures including my spinner baits and buzz baits, which I never seem to catch any fish with theses lures, I did not catch 1 single fish or get a single bite after over 6 hours on the lake. I'm beginning to wonder about my technique. I have read articles on Bass Resource, You Tube, Bass Pro Shop, Bass Masters and even purchased books about the habits and forage of bass. Of all the lures that I purchased, where can I find information on how to rig those lures. I purchased a 3.5" yum money minnow the other day for $8.99 and when I rig the minnow and throwed it in my pool, it swimmed on it's side and in circles. Are there any tips on what I need to do to hone the skills that I do have.
  14. I did some work on my boat to get some more rod storage. Made a video so the other guys in the club would know how to do the same.
  15. Has anyone used one of these, Roboworm 4" FX Sculpin? I want to use a drop shot more and that is the bait I choose to get started. I have had little to no luck with a drop shot rig, I know a lot of people are using them where I fish and do well with them. I can do okay with them on the river (Potomac river) but not on the reservoir. The reservoir that I fish has a hard bottom. Mostly, clay, pea gravel, stumps, laydowns, and some bluff walls, only vegetation is against the banks and normally doesn't come out more than 3-4 feet. The reservoir is at the deepest holes about 60ft, I have caught fish as deep as 25ft deep off of points. I am what they call a bank banger on my reservoir! Which means I prefer to fish the banks, flipping jigs and soft plastics year around. I do fish points, humps, ledges but only as a last resort and that has been my downfall. Summertime it's go deep or go home. Most people are dragging jigs and c-rigs in deep water and catching studs. I am beating the banks catching a limit and maybe 1 good fish. I tend to fish the drop shot way too fast, but am unsure how to fish it most effectively. I basically fish it like a t-rig, with a little more pauses during my retrieve. I have the hook rigged about 8 inches above the 3/16oz drop shot weight. Where should I be focusing on throwing it and how should I retrieve it? Jay-
  16. I have just gotten into jig fishing and I have caught a few bass using a swim jig but I can't seem to fish a pitching jig in the right way. I currently use a 1/4 black and brown jig with a zoom chunk as a trailer. Any advice on how to fish it, where, when, and what tackle would be great.
  17. I did not buy a kayak to get exercise. I am an old duffer and I bought a 9 foot, 37 lb kayak as a lite weight car topper for the purpose of urban fishing and an occasional float trip.. Being both old and lazy, I soon started puzzling on how to mount a trolling motor to my kayak. I have a sit inside lake type kayak with about a one inch rim around the ovil shaped cockpit. The rim is molded into the one piece poly (something I can't spell) hull. First I needed some sort of transom. My bill of materials to make a transom so I used stuff that was just what I had on hand: What I built was essencially an out rigger using the empty mob head as a transom. BILL OF MATERIALS. 1) A nylon strip rateching cargo tie down. (5 bucks at a hardware store) 2) Used mop handle with an aluminum head.(free if yoiu wife doesn't catch you snitching it.) 3) Wooden dowl which is a tight fit to splint up the mop handle. 4) 2 two inch U Bolt muffler clamps 4) 2 metal shower curtain hanger claimp. 5) 2 foot length of light weight chain with links suitable to fit the curtain hanger. 6) 1 one inch or so eye bolts and washers and 2 nuts to fit the eye bolts. 7) Two D rings. ASSEMBLEY 1) Insert the wooden down in the holow mop handle to provide ridigit strength. (the tighter fit the better.) 2) Put the D righg over the muffler clamps and tighten the muffler clamps at either end of the mop handle. 3) Drill a hole in mop handle and secure the eye bolt through the mop handle. 4) Attach each end of the chain to a shower curtain hanger.
  18. I haven't had much luck on jigs, so I was just looking for some insight on how, when, what color, and where to fish them. -Thanks
