  1. Recently ordered some gear from and they included a free spool of 25lb fluoro with my order. I use 10 lb and 15 lb fluoro for most applications, with the exception of 50 lb braid for my frogging, and pitching into heavy cover. My question is what should I use the 25 lb for? Maybe a leader on my flipping/pitching set up? Seems like it’d be a bit too big for anything else. Do any of you have experience using fluoro that heavy?
  2. I typically fish with two rods one for Texas rig the other for wacky. In the past I've always done 7 ft MH F for both but not sure what is best for my wacky set up. I do fish heavy cover, in MA and NH, every time and use green braid line. Whats the best spinning rod (length and action) and braid (lb. test and brand) for wacky rig in heavy cover?
  3. Can someone please explain how a reel that has a (for example) 7.3.1 gear ratio would have more leverage than a reel that has a 8.1.1 gear ratio when pulling a fish out of slop? I don't really understand that concept, maybe i'm slow but can someone break it down for me? To eliminate the fluff about IPT let's say both of these reels are the same model in different gear ratios.
  4. Alright guys, I fancy myself a decent jig fisherman and at my local spot its a necessity that I use one due to the cover presented. I fish a slow moving, muddy river that is chalk full of trees, logs, rocks and god knows what else from the bank to bottom. I have semi consistently lost a jig or two every time out. I know it's a great lure for the bass in there and have had good success dragging it over and through all the cover in the river. I guess I have two questions. 1. Is it just an accepted part of jig fishing in very heavy cover that you lose some? 2. Is there a specific head design that comes through cover better than others? Specifically wood? Any tips on head design, fishing technique or anything related to heavy cover jig fishing would be appreciated guys.
  5. I live in central Florida and fish the Kissimmee Chain mainly and if you know this chain, you know how much grass, pads, and hydrilla there is. I LOVE to fish a heavy cover swim jig, mainly a 1/2 oz. Gambler Heavy Cover Swim Jig with an EZ Swimmer trailer. Heavy grass, heavy rods, heavy line. For those of y'all that fish this, what's your preferred Rod?! I'm looking for the right one, I love Halo and Fitzgerald rods.
  6. Looking to buy a new rod for light punching and flipping Texas rigs/jigs in heavy cover, is the G loomis e6x flip/punch suitable for me? Is it worth $200? But the most important factor is if it is sensitive. I really need to feel every little bump, stick, and bite. I'm also open to any other rods around or under 200 dollars, any suggestions? Any info will help, thanks
  7. Looking to buy new jigs for heavy cover and are *** jigs the way to go? The only thing that's holding me back are the dual plastic hook guards, will they ruin my hook sets? Any info will help, just trying to spend my money wisely. Thanks
  8. I admit, I woefully underuse soft plastics, most likely due to my having taught myself to fish at a young age. I needed a fast, more interesting way to fish. (I was ten and got bored easily.) Now however, I would like to better utilize them. When do you use soft jerkbaits vs paddletails vs soft craws vs worms vs tubes. Which ones are used for used for what situation as opposed to others. I fish most w/ a t-rig. Which do you rig in what ways for what circumstances? Mostly I use jerkbaits in more open spaces, above and around the edges of weedbeds/stumps. I use soft craws to drag/yo yo along the bottom. I use tubes in heavier cover, and worms for smaller spaces where short casts are necessary (I fish from the bank) i.e. through lily pads, heavy cover, and bluffs/steep areas where vertical presentations are used. I tend to use paddletails as an alternative to jerkbaits, especially in muddier water. I have no experience w/ grubs, or really any soft plastics outside of these listed. Also, which are better search baits and which are fished slow (oviously the got worm there) and how? Rereading this I feel like I total novice. So, I guess this is soft plastic 101.Thanks in advance.
  9. I have never been much of a worm guy, just was never good for it. I have always harbored an affinity however, for soft plastic jerkbaits and crawfish imitating baits. Recently, while fishing in a shallow farm pond I came upon an area with a plethora of shallow, cut, close to shore trees. I considered running cranks through it but bass were holding to thick sideways branches half of which were sticking out of the water. The bass in said pond do not have a distinct favor towards spinnerbaits. I figured I should fish a soft plastic jerkbait, but the water was so muddy. Low and behold in my tackle box I stumbled upon the answer. I took a blade off a beetle spin, attatched it to the hook of a Texas rigged, gulp smelt, a caught a ton in no time. This is now hands down my favorite rig for shallow muddy, snag rich cover where only a jerkbait will do.
