  1. Hello All, I've recently joined the Forum after regularly reading up on the many questions others have had about the sport for about a year. Im still a novice when it comes to bass fishing, I started August of 2019, and I'd love to get more involved with this wonderful community. Very soon here I am going to buy a Fishing Kayak (waiting for the one I want to be in-stock) which should open up many new ponds and small lakes to try out here in Cali. Most of these ponds and small lakes are off the beaten path and almost impossible to fish from the bank, only accessible by kayak, but im able to scout the terrain and get a basic idea of the what waterbodies layout is. I am in love with hooking into big fish and I was wondering what the tell tale signs are for a waterbody to have big largemouth bass? So far I suspect deep water to be essential as well as water with decent water clarity, but im not entirely sure. What type of cover or structure should I keep an eye out for when I scout these waterbodies by foot? I can count all the 4lb+ bass ive ever caught on basically 2 hands so my experince with big fish is fairly limited. I have some general ideas of what to lookout for but I'd love to hear from you experienced guys out there. So far the Two water bodies I've scouted have a ton of standing timbre or have their banks covered with water primrose, water visibility both have about 2ft or so. Seen baitfish creating small wakes on waters surface and saw many old bluegill spawning beds so atleast there are fish hahaha. Any tips on finding some Hawgs? Thanks!
  2. Hey everyone, this is my first post so I made sure it was a good one. This is a typical fish that got away story just so you're aware, Hahaha. I was fishing the retention pond at my apartment complex yesterday around 3:00 pm. Very small pond, 150 yards in length and you can cast across it. I've only caught tiny bass up until this point. I heard rumors of a monster bass lurking near the shallowest part of the pond, where most of the cover/bait fish are. Second cast using a black/red flake crawfish jig got me a small bite, which turned out to be the potential bass of a lifetime... My medium action pole immediately bent over, with the fish ripping drag out of the quantum smoke spinning reel. Fought for a good 30 seconds trying to keep him from jumping, until he broke the surface like a great white shark. My heart started pounding. I've caught a 7 lb bass before but this was much, much bigger. Got him close to the shore, but as soon as it saw me he/she shot into the weeds, ripping out more drag and shaking the hook loose in the process. I've never felt so dissapointed in my life, so close to my first 10 lb or more large mouth. Long story short, I need redemption! In your guy's opinion, should I fish the same spot next weekend? Same lure? Same time? How the hell can I get this fish to bite again?! Thanks in advance, I'm looking forward to posting a picture of this monster for you guys!
  3. From the album: Top Water Hawgs

PB, 3.08Lb's. So much fun, this was like a movie, such a blast! Threw out a spook right next to a group of reeds sticking up out of the water as the steam is floating above the glass-like water. As soon as the bait hit the water ,you just see a swirl and she engulfs it ! She took the drag at first, jumped into the weeds, dove deep...anything a bass can do to try and get away, she did. A blast and a great day!

  6. I'm heading down to Panama City Beach, Florida at the end of the week with the family on a week long vacation and I plan on doing a lot of fishing. Living in Chicago, a 5-6 pounder is considered to be a trophy and will only come maybe 2-3 times a season. I want to make the most of my vacation and hopefully land a fish in the 10 pound range. I have been doing my research and the main thing that I have gathered is that big baits catch big fish, so I figured that my main approach will be to throw things like big T-rigged worms, lizards, and jigs. I'm open to all ideas, so any tips or techniques are appreciated. Also, is anyone familiar with this area? I know that retention ponds and ponds in gated communities are supposed to produce big fish, but I have never been to the Panhandle before.
  7. I had the great honor of fishing this morning with memphis's biggest bass fishing legend, second only to some furniture salesman named Bill Dance. Yes thats right Roadwarrior. We fished a very private pond , which I'm sure made all those grove park bass happy that they could eat in peace for a day. The day started off calm and early at 5 am when i struck first for the day with a pair of white cavitron buzz bait bass and missed a few more, while RW fished a rage tail on top like a buzz bait surprisingly unsuccessfully. After what little topwater bite there was died down, RW fished a lobster on a Stick'r rig and had a few bites but still had not put a fish in the boat :surprised: . I was getting worried. We were talking about all the big girls Big-O catches and how we wish there was some standing timber to pitch a rage hawg around just like Big-O does. About that time RW says "I just wanna be like Big-O" and ties on a Rage Hawg in Summer Craw with a half ounce weight and a razor sharp Moaner hook. Like I expected, he just started whacking some chunky bass with one worth a picture. I caught a few more on a worm but I was just trying to take in the experience. A storm chased us off but not before we did a little damage. Yep, TW is going to get an order for some rage hawgs pretty soon, not to mention I'm sitting on the edge of my seat for the icast rage introductions, y'all will love them!
