I have a small pond on my farm around 3/4 of an acre. My dad stocked 2 grass carp in there around 4 years ago and they are still alive and kicking. They are either both the same sex or have no success in reproducing because I only see these two in there. Both are at least 30 lbs if not more and now my dad doesn't want them in there so I am totally up for the challenge of getting them out of there. One problem. I have no idea where to start. I have read that wonder bread and sweet corn chum could attract them but I'm lost from there. If anybody has tips, tricks, or ideas for me to finally catch these awesome fish I would love to hear it!
I am still trying to catch one of those darn Grass Carp that live in my pond. Today i caught them feeding close to the bank and threw my wieghtless corn rig out there but no luck once again. I used a circle hook with no wieghts or anything and covered it completely with corn. I even got it right in their face a couple times but they didn't even seem to notice it. I've tried bread as well but i can't get it to stay on the hook. So what's the catch? (No pun intended)
Ok so was fishing on a side of my neighborhood pond that i normally dont go to. I was fishing when at about 40 feet out i saw something poke out of the water. I thought it was just a turtle since i see them all the time. But on a closer look i saw what was a fin and not a turtle! It kept poking up in different spots of the area and some times i would see silvery scales! At this point i knew it was a fish! Recently they stocked grass carp in with the bass and bluegill to control the weeds. So i am very conviced it was a grass carp feeding, it was even shaped like a grass carp. However they shouldnt be that big being stocked in recently, but i have heard that they are stocked in at a decent size so the bass dont eat them. This seems possible as it was about 20 inches long. So my question is was that a grass carp and how can i catch it?
Ok so I have a little retention pond in my community and I heard they stocked grass carp in there in March to control the weeds. It only has Bluegill and Largemouth Bass in it so I was very happy to hear this and I really want to catch them. But I know that it will take a good while for them to grow large enough to bite my hook. So the question is how long will it be until I can go try to catch one? Also it would help to know what bait they take. I'm pretty sure chumming corn is the best method but I'm not sure.
I just moved to winter haven with my tackle for a couple months and I would like to team up with someone to target some big freshwater fish like carp, catfish, and gar, and maybe Big Bass too. I havent had much luck trying different lakes on my own!
