Years ago, I fished all the time, and was knowledgeable on all the latest gear, etc. Now I'm an old fart, and thinking about doing some bass fishing again. I would really appreciate some recommendations concerning a fish finder. Things to consider: 1. Easy to operate 2. I already have a list of coordinates to enter into the new fish finder, and need an accurate GPS/fish finder to get to these locations 3. A good view of fish, bottom & structure would be nice, but most fishing would be done anchored at the various coordinates I'll be entering into the device, so getting to those exact spots is the most important function 4. Will be used only on one fresh water lake, and max depth is 50 ft. 5. Would like to spend $1000 or less 6. Would be mounted on a pontoon boat (suggestions for transducer mounting would be appreciated also) Thanks a bunch, Jack

Wanting a couple of things. First of all let me say that I have started fishing deep, looking for the bass sanctuary. It aint easy fishing something I can't see and it really drops my confidence level if I don't KNOW that I am at the right location. Been fishing bank cover and stumps in the water all my life. Now fishing structure. So... 1. Looking to map the contours the body of water I am fishing. Would like to see real time but taking it home, processing and back on the unit is fine. As long as I can look at a printed map, Hook-N-Line, see where a creek/road bed/ pond used to be and geaux and find it with this piece of electronics I am wanting to buy. Then map it myself and have it for future fishing trips. 2. Would like down imaging. Want to save the breaks, break lines and cover as way points. Does not have to be a "fish finder". Priority #1 is mapping the bottom of the body of water. Would like for this be mounted at the bow. My eyes aint what they used to be so a large screen may be needed, but really comes down to price. Suggestions?

Hi guys. I am looking for advice on which fish finder to buy for my boat...Tracker 2010 DV16 I mainly fish for bass and walleye in anywhere from 3 to 25 feet of water. I definitely want side scan capability and have done a lot of research already but wanted to hear more advice from someone who may know more. Right now I have narrowed it down to 2 options: Should I go with the Lowrance hds7 lss for $1,499.00 or The Humminbird Helix9 si for $999.00 plus I'll be using the Humminbird Transducer Exchange program to upgrade to the HD transducer for an extra $85. I am looking for a GPS/GLONASS fishfinder and a transducer. My purpose is a bit on the unorthodox side. I work for a small civil engineering firm that assesses and and designs countermeasures for bridges. Many of our sites are over substantial rivers such as the Rio Grande and Colorado River. The overall goal is to be able to get accurate depth measurements from the transducer that will be logged in a gps unit. The setup will be on a small fishing boat and we will run cross sections upstream and downstream of the structure to get a representation of the channel. We are looking for a transducer with a narrow cone angle in order to get an accurate depth measurement. We also need a gps fishfinder that will log our location and depth as we move through the channel. Any help in selecting the proper equipment would be highly appreciated.

Looking into some fish finder upgrades and came across some steep discounts on Garmin echoMAP 93sv and Garmin echoMap 73sv units.

So I need to get a transducer for my Garmin Echomap 73sv and I found a used GT-41-TM for sale but I have a question. The GT-40 says its for Shallow water (fresh) and the GT-41says its for rougher deeper waters (salt). I guess my question is: will I not get get good shallow performance from the GT-41 as well? Both are compatible with the unit, I was jus wondering if I will sacrifice shallow water views because this is a deep water unit. Just curious what everyone thinks about using marker buoys vs GPS or using them in conjunction. I know I like to use the gps to get me in the area but like the visual reference of the marker on the structure I am fishing. I painted my buoys black and green to reduce the visibility and attraction of other fishemen. What are your thoughts?

Anybody familiar with the new helix series? Specifically the helix 5 DI GPS. Haven't been able to find much buyer reviews anywhere on this model, but from the few I have found they have been pretty good. Thanks !

Need some help here guys, I'm in the search for a GPS that I can use for the canoe trip and some time on hiking and camping. I was reading some reviews and some ideas around but would like to see what do you guys use... the one that i like at this point are : - DeLorme inReach SE Satellite, not sure how good this will be for canoeing but a lot of good stuff that can be use for hiking. - Garmin eTrex Handheld GPS, not a model yet but some good units. Do you guys have any other choice to share ?... I'm looking something under $ 300.00 I search for this topic here but didn't find any info. IF is one please put me in the right track. I do all kinds of fishing during all times of the year, and I normally do fairly well. But I am looking to take my fishing experience to the next level. I fish from a 12' Lowe Jon boat and a 20' Procraft bass boat. I live in Michigan. And I am new to the market of fishfinder. Well I have a old Hummingbird but all its good for is telling me the depth of water. I am looking for any advice for buying my first fishfinder. My price range is around $500. I have done some research and have looked at a Raymarine Dragonfly Sonar GPS and it looks nice and is around my price range but I don't know much about fishfinders. It should be noted that the majority of lakes around my area are 50-150 acres. I would like to primarily use the unit to help locate my crappie honey hole easier which is in about 10-20 ft. of water. And to catch deep bass. And the average depth of water I fish is about 10ft. (the reason I add this is I've heard different fishfinders give different readings depending on depth) A key feature I would like it to include is a map so I can mark areas I've caught fish. Just bought myself a Nitro NX 882 2000 18'2''. It has no electronics on it. I want to know what would be the best setup under 2500$, trolling motor mount and consol mount, Where should I put the best one with Side imaging? I cant afford two units with side imaging so... ? Humminbird? Lowrance? what do you guys think??

Hi folks, I was Googling for a route through this treacherous stretch of the Potomac, but I came up short. I didn't create the following route on the water, but rather with some free mapping software. It represents roughly the way I usually run Blue Plains and Oxen Creek, but it has routes I haven't tried for Fox Ferry and the WW Bridge. Please give any input you have. The best information would be actual waypoints from your GPS/plotter, but any/all feedback would be appreciated. Route/Waypoints in CSV format. Free mapping software.
