  1. Hey guys, I am looking to get a versatile rod tailored towards smaller hard and soft baits. I would be looking for something that can throw jerkbaits, smaller worms, shaky heads, small lipless and topwaters, etc. kinda like a “jack of all trades” for smaller baits. I am trying to decide between a G Loomis GLX 842c MBR and a Shimano Expride 6’10” medium. I have heard a few things about the reel seat on the GLX being a problem, some people even saying it made them sell the rod. I have fairly large and long hands and will most likely pair the rod up with a 50-100 size reel. Wanted to see if anyone owned either of these rods and what baits they typically use on them. Thanks guys, looking forward to hearing from you!
  2. Would you pick one over the other? And what is the reasoning behind it? I have both of these and am not sure if I want to keep them both or get rid of one. They both are great rods, but can be used for pretty much the same applications. I love the action on the MBR since I started my high end fishing with OG Mag Bass rods, however once I moved to the NRX JWR rods I got to really to love how the road loads up. I'm just not sure I need both of these rods. Anyone in my situation? What are you using the rods for?
  3. Guys I’ve been looking hard for the past few weeks trying to find an upgrade to my E6X WUR 901-2S. I mainly twitch 3/8 jigs and spoons for coho and steelhead. The E6X has handled some big steelhead surprising well but now I’m ready to upgrade. My issue is I need a 2 peace due to packing it around from spot to spot bush wacking. What are your thoughts on the IMX 9000 2S Hot Shot, is it enough of a upgrade to make a noticeable difference. Or can you think of a better high end 2 peace ?
  4. I've been looking into a casting rod for lighter applications, and these two seem to be just what I'm looking for. I actually don't have the scratch for the G Loomis but I'm interested in anyones input who may have used both to hear their thoughts and comparisons. G Loomis 7' GLX 842 MBR casting rod (8-14lb line & 1/4-5/8oz) compared to a Shimano 7'2" Expride A Medium light + (7-14lb line & 1/8-5/8oz) Loomis also makes the 852c JWR in an E6X version. Unlike a lot of people on BR I really like the Gen 2 E6X rods.
  5. I'm going to put some new line on my light Texas rig/small jig setup and can't decide on diameter. Rod is a Loomis IMX pro 853c and reel is a Daiwa Tatula 100. I mainly use this setup in the creek I frequent while kayak fishing so looking for something that casts well. I will not be using a leader. I mainly throw 1/4 oz jigs and trailer like a bitsy bug and baby rage. I use 50lb on my 854c for heavier jigs but thinking of going 30-40 on this setup. I'll be using Powerpro if that matters. Thanks in advance!
  6. Hello I would like to purchase a new shakyhead rod for this coming season. I am currently thinking either the G Loomis shakyhead spinning rod GLX series or the St. Croix Legend X rod. I will not spend $400 on a rod without first putting it in my hands to evaluate the feel. Problem is that I cannot find anyone who stocks these rods near Virginia. Does anyone know of a way for me to look at these rods?
  7. I did a post a while back about cranking rods, finally went with the IMX Pro 845c. Now looking for a reel to go with it, daiwa or shimano fanboy, kinda looking now at either a used antares, a metanium MGL, a bantam mgl or daiwa steezs. Any experience on this topic and ideas on what would balance the rod best? WRB talked in my older post about IPT on 100 sized reels, I would like to take this into consideration. what to do? Sincerly, Nathan,
  8. I see about a $70-$80 difference in price and when you're spending $400+ on a rod that doesn't seem like much..... I'm looking to pick up a new jig/worm rod and will more than likely get a 6'8" as I mainly fish from a yak. I'll probably go with the NRX but wanted to get some input on what everyone thinks. Thanks
  9. I currently do 90% of my fishing from my yak and this summer have been mainly fishing creeks, rivers and on occasion small lakes. I'm constantly close to shore and sometimes have to deal with trees to get in spots to fish. My setup now for jigs/texas rigs is a St. Croix Avid 6'8" MH paired with a Curado K. I'm still fairly new to pitching, especially from a sitting position in a kayak. I've been practicing as much as possible, even sitting on a stool in the yard with a practice plug to get better. Well the rod/reel Gorilla has been tapping me on the shoulder and with TW BF sale on the horizon I have the itch for a new setup. I'm considering a longer rod, and looking at either a Legend Tournament or a Loomis IMX pro or maybe even splurging for a Legend X or GLX. So, those who have experience with a longer rod for pitching what do you think? Should I upgrade to a 7' - 7'-5" length rod? Or should I spend the money elsewhere and be happy with my current setup? Also, for pitching what is your preference, full cork or split grip? For a reel, would you stick with the Curado K or would my technique be improved by going with a different reel? I'm open to Shimano or Daiwa when it comes to my reel choice but prefer Shimano.
  10. I’m looking for a new casting rod for all around use around a 7ft MH. I was thinking about either a Dobyns Fury, a St Croix Mojo Bass, or a G Loomis E6X which I could get for around $110 with the varsity shimano program. Can anyone give me some insight to which rod performs the best? I’m open to other rods too if you have suggestions. Thanks
  11. Everyone and there brother has been wondering about the new G Loomis rods. I went against my natural tendency and bought one shortly after they became available on Tackle Warehouse. This is my first ever G Loomis that I have bought. Since then I have fished with it twice on the lake using it most of the time. The rod I am reviewing is the 894c 7'5" heavy jig rod, rated for 5/16oz-3/4oz I bought this rod to primarily be my jig rod. I have been on the search to find one that fit my needs perfectly and trust me it has been quite a battle. This rod fits my needs absolutely perfectly so far. Living on the Coosa river chain there is no idea what I might be throwing jig wise. One minute I will be skipping a 3/8oz jig under docks and trees, the next I will be throwing a 1/2 oz to 3/4 oz to deep points and humps. I have been looking for a rod that can do all of this perfectly. So I went and did all of these things with this rod and it did it all exactly how I wanted it to. It has enough tip where you can feel those lighter jigs perfectly on the bottom but also enough power to rip fish out of cover. The sensitivity is what I would expect out of a $250 dollar rod. I had no problem picking up on the soft bites from the lethargic fish. I will admit that I am weird and like to skip docks with a 7'3" to 7'6" rod. Honestly that's the length I prefer in every technique except jerk bait fishing. The 7'5 is an awesome length and provides for awesome leverage and long casts. Durability wise I can't speak on much because I have not had it very long but it seems to be well made and had no problem boat flipping 3 1/2 pounders. Perhaps my favorite part was how well balanced the rod was. I but a shimano 200i on it and it was balance perfectly. It isn't the lightest rod I have ever felt but it is definitely not tip heavy. Compared to other rods however it is very light. So far I am very impressed with my first Loomis and think that the 893 will be my next purchase. I prefer to stay in the 150-200 dollar range for rods and from what I can see so far this is one of the best if not the best I have used in this price range. We will see how this holds up for the next month or so. If it does it will have one me over and I will purchase a few more. Tight Lines, Josh
  12. Hi BR, Hope everyone is having a hell of a summer. After I Cast 2017, a big release was the Conquest rods by G loomis and Shimano. It seems they have finally woven the best of the two organizations technology and come up with CONQUEST. Any thoughts on these rods? $650 USD. WOW Tight lines -Drunkentigerrr
  13. So I've always been a St. Croix fan... my whole lineup is pretty much a mix of different St. Croix lines.. until I recently bought a Dobyns Champion HP 784ML Jig rod... I bought it for football jigs and I really wanted the extra length and XF taper, which wasn't available in St. Croixs lineup. I'm sure I could've found something fairly close in St. Croixs lineup, but their rods that are designed for similar "finesse jig" techniques are more like 7'1 not 7'8. Anyways, I LOVE that new dobyns rod... great blank for a whole variety of baits... Now I'm looking for another Medium Heavy Fast or Extra Fast jig rod in more like a 7'-7'5 length... pretty much want the most sensitive rod I can reasonably afford... like to keep it under 400 so I'm taking the NRX out of the equation.. As much as I like the Dobyns 784 I've read that both St. Croix and Loomis offer blanks that are noticeably more sensitive.. So that's got me comparing a Legend Elite and a GLX JWR ... anyone have both or fished with both and care to weigh in on which they like more and why? I also want it to have a full cork grip.. I don't mind split grips but really prefer full cork on my jig rods. Final question is whether or not the upgrade to SCV or GLX from an SCIII (7' St. Croix Avid) is worth doubling the price for? I realize that's a personal question.. but I'm asking for your opinions I suppose. I fish a lot of Avid series rods and certainly don't have too many complaints.. my biggest complaint would be the lack of lengths/technique specific tapers in the rod lineup.. I'd be stuck with a 7' MHF avid whereas if I upgraded to a Legend Elite or GLX JWR I'd have more options for lengths and different rod tapers. Any insight is appreciated... Thanks guys!
  14. I understand majority of this is more preference than anything, but I'm stuck and looking for some guidance. I'm looking to pick up a new football Jig/big worm rod, tossing mainly 1/2oz and occasionally higher. I'll be pairing it with a Chronarch mgl and most likely 20# Sunline. Naturally I'm looking for something lightweight with great sensitivity, but a well balanced rod is most important to me (have had too many tip heavy rods). I've read many reviews and done so much research I feel I'm going mad. Budget isn't all that much of a concern as I know a lot of times you get what you pay for, but I'm not trying to break the bank unless it truly TRULY is worth it (I feel most comfortable spending between $200~$300). Here I have a list of what I keep getting hung up on.. 1. G Loomis - GLX 894C JWR 2. Dobyns Champ Extrm HP - 7'8" Hvy Mike Long Jig 3. Megabass - Orochi XX - 7'5" MH EMTF 4. G Loomis - E6X 894C JWR What I'm wondering is, are some of the higher dollar rods really worth their price and not just hype? As I stated before, I understand majority of this is more personal preference than anything. I'm just hoping enough members on here have had some sort of experience. I'm open to recommendations as well.
  15. I am torn between which of the G Loomis Drop shot rods to get. The mag-light, or the mag-medium? I am looking for a more all-around spinning rod, but I also want a rod that will work well for drop shot fishing. Any suggestions?
  16. i just bought a g loomis imx from cabelas for 189 cause it was on sale, i needed a rod to pair up with my stradic ci4 plus, i needed a rod that was going to be really sensitive and lightweight. i preferably wanted a medium light action but i went and bought the imx that is a 6'6 medium rated 1/8-3/8. my question is, is this going to be long enough to throw a drop shot and shakey head? i just dont want to waste my time with it if its not worth using as a drop shot rod! PLEASE HELP!
  17. I’m looking for a rod to use for spinnerbaits, jerkbaits and topwater(mostly poppers and walking). Is this expecting too much out of one rod? I have read through the topics in the “The Best Rod Thread” sticky and from what I have read most of these types of lures work well with a M/XF rod. My local DSG has the GL2 812C SBR for ~$90 and the local BPS has several Abu Garcia Veracity rods clearanced for $99. I know that the G Loomis GL2 is not a very popular line and the general consensus is that they are heavy and the rod is overpriced at the $200 range based on sensitivity, weight and quality of components(type of guides). The main thing that concerns me with the GL2 is the lure rating of 3/8 to ½ oz which seems pretty narrow. Currently the casting rods that I have: An older G Loomis MBR 843 IMX (made in canada) Powell Endurance 723 CEF Daiwa Procyon 7’ MH Abu Garcia Silvermax Rod 6’6” M/F I am open to any other suggestions and also willing to go with a used rod.
  18. So first I'll explain my situation and then my question: I'm a kayak angler from Texas and typically bring about 5 rods with me to cover a majority of techniques, and I often have rods that I can double up for both techniques. Most of the lakes I fish around here contain a lot of diverse cover such as heavy vegetation, standing timber, or submerged wood and flipping into this cover can be a recipe for big fish. In the past, I've been flipping with a 7'3 Micro Magic MH rod, and although it has a fair amount of power, I have 17 pound fluoro on the reel, and I prefer to use this set up for texas rigs and jigs. I'm in the process of purchasing a new setup to be used almost exclusively for pitching: something to flip light tungsten (usually 1/2 Oz) into this cover. I'm willing to go higher in price point but I'm running into more questions as I search for a rod. I was looking at the G Loomis Gl2, and then I saw the new E6X Loomis came out with recently which is lighter weight and more updated. Things became more complicated when I started investigating Dobyns rods, which it seems many are more keen on than Loomis. I would prefer a split grip rod, but I'm starting to realize most longer rods tend to have a full cork handle, something which I liked about the GL2 flipping rod, as it did have a split grip on a 7'5 rod. I also would like something without an especially long butt section, because though I do stand up to pitch often, if I'm drifting with the wind, its easier to remain seated, and I don't want the reel to be far from me. Does anyone have any info about these rods or recommendations they would make me? In terms of reel, I had planned on pairing up with a gen 3 revo STX from Abu with 50 pound braid (has anyone tried that new seaguar braid that's black colored Denny Brauer helped design)? Any info would be much appreciated!
  19. Looking to buy a new rod for light punching and flipping Texas rigs/jigs in heavy cover, is the G loomis e6x flip/punch suitable for me? Is it worth $200? But the most important factor is if it is sensitive. I really need to feel every little bump, stick, and bite. I'm also open to any other rods around or under 200 dollars, any suggestions? Any info will help, thanks
  20. Anyone know anything about the G Loomis E6X? Is it light so I can fish it all day? Sensitive? And durable? I couldn't find any information on *** or tackle tour, so I figured maybe some of you could help me out.

  22. Hey guys, I just purchased an SBR751 today @BassPro. After the rod trade in discount and gift cards, I only came out of pocket like $85. Now to the question: this rod was purchased to replace a 6'6" ML/F BP Crankin' Stick. I used the crankin stick to fish creeks and smaller rivers. I'm starting to wonder if the "1" power rating will be able to haul in the occasional 3-4# smallmouth that I sometimes catch out of these creeks/rivers? I love the crankin stick I really do, however, I also feel that when I throw small zara puppies, the rod is more of a med-fast action than a medium action. With the Loomis rod it feels a lot more crisp and responsive for throwing pencil baits with. Is there any worry or cause for concern with the "1" power rating? Thanks, Coak p.s.--I went into the Cincy bp but couldn't find Hootie to help me with the decision!
  23. Hey guys, I wanted to know your input on a great rod for crankbait fishing under $300. I will be pairing it with a new Chronarch 201E6. I have been Looking at G Loomis Crankbait Rods and the Crankbait GL2, but I'm open for oth brands. I have never had a G Loomis, but hear great things, so I am leaning toward these. Open to any suggestions on other brands and sizes. Thanks.
  24. I really like the loomis brand (own a gl3) and the fact that they use full cork on their MBR and Mossyback series. So with that said, I am pulling the trigger today on a mbr843c imx today for senkos and t-rigged plastics. I am also going to pickup one of these two: Another mbr843 imx, or a bcr804c. This rod will be my primary jig rod for pitching mainly. If you had to choose, which would you choose and why?
