  1. I am planning on using my 6'6" Medium spinning rod and 6' ML spinning rod for more river fishing in NC in the Charlotte area. I want to spool the reels with 6 lb test but should I spool it with fluro or mono? I would consider 10 or 15 lb braid to fluro or mono but I don't know how to tie the knots and sometimes using a barrel swivel can be a pain. My goal would be to catch smallies but no idea if that's even realistic in my area so would be happy to use mostly the ML rod and catch any species I can in the rivers. Thanks for the help!
  2. I heard that if you tie a knot incorrectly or sloppily with fluro it can result in break-offs. why is this? and what knots work well with fluro? oh and one last thing, why doesn't this happen with mono?
  3. I have a 20 lb braid on my baitcaster. I was wondering what size leader should I use. I feel pretty confident with 20lb braid and haven't had any snapped lines. (knock on wood) I bought previously a 17lb flurocarbon line and I'm wondering if that is too heavy with the 20lb braid. Also if I should use monofilament or fluorocarbon as a leader with my braid. Thanks a lot Counting down the days to spring.
  4. Hey guys, Let me just start this off by saying this is my second year bass fishing and I love it. "I'm hooked" as a corny saying fishermen have used. I have a couple questions about leaders if you could help...I have right now 20 lb power pro braided moss green line on my baitcaster. I was wondering if I need to use a leader...especially for jigs and worms and crankbaits. I didn't use a leader at all for top water such as buzzbaits and frogs and poppers and I was successful. But it is that underwater action that I have been struggling with. I'm wondering if the fish are just staring at my moss green line attached to my worm and laughing at this novice fisherman. Please help if you can. Thanks a lot and can't wait for the 13' fishing season!
  5. What's the best jig fishing line? For medium thick cover i'd say.. I've heard people swear by yo-zuri hybrid to 50 # suffix 832 then some say fluro? What are everyone's preferences for about 3/8th's - 1/2 oz jigs.. Thanks for any advice!
  6. I'm a fifteen year old male from northern Wisconsin. I've been fishing hardcore for 2 years now, mainly bass and walleye. Everything I know about fishing has come from reading books, internet, and self experience. Never was taught by my father or grandpa or male figure. So here I am today with a question for someone with lots of knowledge. I use a 2 spinning outfits and one baitcasting outfit while fishing; all which spooled with 8-10lb mono, because of price and lack of knowledge of other lines. I understand the stretch of mono, sinking of fluro, and sensitivity of fluro. I'm now willing to spend the extra money on new lines for better results but have no clue what is the most benificial. I tend to use lots of crankbaits, jerkbaits, and wacky rigged 5 inch worms.. I am very capable of tying a double uni knot to make a leader or just tie lines together for a backing but I have no clue when to use it and which what other kind of line? I've heard lots about how you cant use braided line completely because it'll dig into the spool or slip? What do I use for a backing and how much? I dont have a lot of money flow so cheaper ways of spooling but most effective would be the preferd method. Now for Leaders; What to use for what, how long of a leader, and i've heard that some lines (mostly braided) can scare fish away when fluro is near invisbile? What about mono? Any information on any of these topics would be much appreciated..
