  1. Hey BR, Quick video on how I store and spool spare fishing line in my boat. Thanks, James N
  2. Hello BR community, I have a question regarding Monofilament line. I recently spooled up my Shimano Citica with 17 lb. test Mono and the line just doesn’t sit right on the spool. It keeps bunching up and not looking tight and orderly around the spool like my other line does.it also seems to backlash quite frequently. I’ve been fishing for a while and have a pretty educated thumb so it’s a little frustrating. What gives? Is the line to heavy for the spool or is the line itself subpar? If I could get your opinions on this I would really appreciate it. Cam
  3. Hello, I was just wondering what all of you guys use to fish small lures like, tiny frogs, tiny poppers, Strike King Bitsy Minnow, and little crawfish baits? Im thinking some 8lb mono, is it good? Thanks, Martin Sorry for the horrid quality
  4. Has anyone used this line? Braid, fluro, mono, fly line, catfish line.. any of it?. I can't seem to find a distributor in the US. I would love to try the 12 carat line or the platinum line of braid.. found something on Amazon UK. That's about it. Nothing concrete locally.. https://www.climax-fishingline.de/en/products/braided-lines/ Here is their main website.. if they make fishing line anything like their cars, It would be lights out!
  5. I’m looking into getting a shimano curado DC 150. I’m not sure if I should use mono or braid?? On my first baitcaster I’m using braid and it’s all right. I will be throwing just about all kinds of baits for bass fishing. But my friend has his spooled with mono and it’s definitely different? So what are the pros and cons? What would you go with? - thanks Anthony
  6. Hello I am looking into buying the berkley mini line spooler and i was wondering, what is the difference between using that one or the portable line spooler and if any of you have used it and your experiences with it. Thank you https://www.amazon.com/Berkley-BAMLS-Mini-Line-Spooler/dp/B005OTYVTS/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1515194708&sr=1-1&keywords=berkley+mini+line+spooler
  7. First off, I want to thank everyone for some helpful information on bass fishing. I've been having fun all summer in Virginia. I'm looking forward to the upcoming trout season and the wild trout in the mountains; however, I will fly fish in the mountains. I just have a few questions on fishing for stocked trout. I just ordered a new spinning combo. I was limited to only Okuma. (never had any products, but look reliable) I purchased a 7' SST Rod Ultralight with a Ceymar C-30 Spinning Reel. Now that i'm a little more hardcore to fishing and i'm starting to learn more about all the miscellaneous gear/tackle available to increase success. For instance, fishing line. Since I am going ultra light on my trout set up, what do you think would be the best line to spool up my reel? My head is hurting because there so many options. My first instinct would be braid main line and fluoro leader. Would 8# braid with 4#leader fluoro be overkill? I read a few articles of braid not functioning correctly on a spinning reels. I then read some post about Fireline. I just started using cheap braid/ fluoro leaders for bass with a BC reel and seem to get a lot more hook ups so I know theres a method to this madness. Just trying to figure out if braid will bring me more fish or misery on a spinning reel. Or if its not kosher with an ultralight set up and go straight low# mono. thanks
  8. For lack of better words, can someone please explain Line Capacity/Test as if you were teaching a child! I've read many posts on the subject but there's so much fisherman jargon and technical terms that I'm a tad confused. I'm new to fishing in regards to finally purchasing my own tackle, rather then just showing up to the lake/ocean and fishing with a buddy's gear. As an example, I got an amazing deal on a few highend rods and one of the reels I purchased new and nearly free, was a Chronarch 200e7. The specs on the box read: Nylon Mono / lb. (yds.) -- 8(180) • 10(155) • 14(110) PowerPro Braided -- 30(190) • 50(120) • 65(80) Nylon Mono -- 8(180) • 10(155) • 14(110) Fil Tresse PowerPro -- 30(190) • 50(120) • 65(80) Lol, I'm so confused! Help, please! I'm looking to purchase a Mono, Braided, and Fluorocarbon Line but I don't know what I'm suppose to purchase for this particular reel or the others for that matter.
  9. To all the people using mono line what is your go to company? Looking for a good brand as I have not been thrilled about the few brands ive tried. Is the Berkley big game any good? Seeing the cheap prices makes me iffy about purchasing it because of how cheap it is. Looking to stay at 12 lb. I have braid and fluorocarbon setups and just looking for a good mono. Thanks for your time
  10. So I'm looking for a new braided fishing line and I have used Daiwa line and have had multiple problems and I've also used power pro which I've also had problems with. So I need help on deciding a good braided fishing line these were I few I was looking at. •seaguar smackdown/flipping •suffix 832 •p line tcb braid
  11. Hello all, I am new to this forum and have been doing a bunch of research on lines but never really got anything to satisfy me. Okay so im sort of on a budget and only use two rods and two reels. 1st setup- BPS carbonlite 7'0 MH fast action rod paired with a pflueger supreme spinning reel. 2nd setup- *** *** black gen 2 paired with *** *** baitcasting reel. I fish from the shore and about 50% of my fishing consists of soft plastics whether it be Texas rigs, wacky rigs or flukes. I fish them all. The other 50% is chatterbaits, crankbaits (lipless and lipped). I also fish a ton of top water like a jitterbug or a frog. My question is to see what type of line everyone thinks I should put on my spinning and baitcasting setup. Or should I do two different lines on each setup and designate them to different applications. (keeping in mind I only have two setups). Basically I just want an all around good line that can get me best of both worlds. I'm definitely open to any suggestions you guys have. Thanks to all who help!
  12. This spring I purchased some Berkley original moss green fireline in 20 pound test. I realize it was not new even though it was an unopened package because Berkley stopped making this several years ago. So what I bought had been sitting on somebody's shelf for a couple of years. When using the line I noticed right off that I had lost some casting distance compared to some I had purchased when it was manufactured and was still on the reel. My reels are all Pinnacles and they are excellent reels. So I know the reel was not the problem. Has anyone noticed if this particular Berkley line becomes sticky if it is not used within a certain amount of time after manufacture? Do all braid lines become sticky is they stay in their original package for a couple of years? It think it is the only reason I lost casting distance. If you've had a similar experience with this or any other braid please let me know. Thanks, Fred
  13. i know you should closely match the hook diameter to the thickness of the line you are using, right? because too thin a line and too thick a hook, you can easily break the line or knot. and vise-versa you can straighten or unbend the hook. my question is, i use 6 or 8lb (i dont remember) silverline co-polymer line on my 6'6ft medium light spinning rod. with a shimano sahara 2500 reel. i like to use finesse worms and senkos, drop shotting and no hooking wacky rig etc etc.. what hooks are o.k. to use with such thin line? i have 1 o/t offset worm hooks, and size 2, 4 and 6 octopus and baitholder hooks... are these okay? or is there a super thin wire hook for such line?
  14. I bought three rods and three reel's 2 medium fast and 1 medium heavy and 2/6.8.1 lews speed spools and 1/7.5.1 speed spool what line should I use for them an what backing if any
  15. What are some of the best ways to utilize monofilament line, 6-20 lb test, in bass fishing? (Lure Type, Rod Type, Casting/Spinning, etc.) Thanks, Rick
  16. Looking for some advice on when to use fluorocarbon and what are the advantages/disadvantages of it?
  17. I was wondering what lb test line would be the best for swimbaits 1-4 ounces?
  18. Can someone explain to me what the main purpose of leaders are? Also what do most of you guys use for backing? Do you always use a leader or do you spool straight mono/fluro/braid? I am confused and wondering what I should do. It doesn't make sense to spool my bait caster with a new spool of seaguar invisx that costs $20 to have it replaced with another spool in 2 weeks. Any tips or info would be great.
  19. I hear many people ask me when to change their line. Some fisherman tell me they keep the same line on their reel for the whole season. Here's some of the issues with people who fish floro: -depending on water clarity, your line is getting stained. -each trip adds to the color change of your line. -you could get unforeseen Knicks in your line -storing a tight spool on line on your pole in your hot garage can warp the line. -ext. Ever restring you pole and see a major knick you didn't know about. I bet you freaked. Ever have days you get skunked and wonder why? We spend to much money to get skunked. So here's what you do after each trip.... Primarily for floro. -unspool 10-15 feet of line and cut it off with clippers. -cut more if necessary. If you spool 150-200 yards of line on a pole. That's 20+ trips with a single spool. That's performing at the top of you game with fresh line and you'll loose less fish. Last tip: always wet your line when you make a knot. Line burns.
  20. I have tried alot of fluro line and so far my favorite is seaguar invizx but I am wondering is the more expensive line like gamma or tatsu any better all though the invizx is the best I found I think there are better lines out there. Thanks for your help
  21. Hey guys I am just wanting to learn what to use and when, in terms of line. I never know what poundage and type of line I should be using for each situation. I am new to bass fishing and just beginning to acquire the rods and reels I need, I do not have the budget to go out and buy six new rods and reels. Right now all I have is a 7ft MH baitcaster and a 7ft medium spinning rod. I am mostly fishing Texas rigged soft plastics with my baitcaster. I love to use braid and right now I have 30# braid on my baitcaster. What is the best set up for soft plastics?
  22. I have seen several topics in these forums about how the 6.5 -7ft medium-heavy, fast action rod paired with a low profile reel is the closest thing to an "all around" setup in the baitcasting category. It should reasonably cover most applications with the exception of maybe lures with treble hooks. My question to you all is, what would be the closest thing to an "all around" LINE to go with this setup? I am intentionally vague on the details because I am looking to cover the widest range of scenarios possible. Thank you in advance, and have fun debating!
  23. Hi, My name is Adam Smith. I am looking for anyone out there that might have an email or phone number connection to Seaguar Fishing line concerning a sponsorship. If there is anyone out there that could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. I would also be willing to help someone join any of the pro staffs Im on if they could help me out. I am just having a hard time finding a email or phone number to even try and apply for a sponsorship with Seaguar. You can message me if you have anything. Thanks, Adam Smith
  24. I recently purchased some Seaguar Red Label fishing line in 8lb test. I put the line on my spinning reel, so the line was coming of the filler spool counter-clockwise, that is the way people told me to put it on. While I was spooling the reel I sprayed a few squirt of Kevin Van Dam's Line and lure onto the line every 20 yards. I let the first treatment settle over night like it says. So when I went out today and when I opened up the bail the line shot off the spool, I don't know if this is really a problem but I'm just curious is this normal? I know for a fact that I did not over spool the reel.
