  1. How much am I looking at to have a dealer install a fishfinder that is not flushed just to run the wires and mount the transducer?
  2. I'm thinking about putting my transducer on my trolling motor for deep water fishing and finding that underwater cover. I fish a lot in small marsh channels running aground with my trolling motor. I'm thinking of mounting it on my trolling motor but spinning it to the top of the trolling motor when I go shallow. Does anyone suggest doing that? Otherwise, talk me out of it.
  3. I have a 2004 AutoPilot Minn Kota trolling motor with built in sonar and want to upgrade my fish finder that is currently connected to it, does anyone have information on what fish finders may be compatible and what adapters may be required? Thank you
  4. I just recently purchased a 17' ProCraft 170 Combo Fish and Ski with a 90 HP Mercury Tracker Pro and had some questions for equipment advise and if anyone knows where to find the dang ladders for this boat. The receivers for the (from the pictures I've seen) stock ladder set up are at an angle toward the rear of the boat and I haven't been able to find any boating ladders at all that fit these receivers. I had a friend of mine recommend a collapsible rope ladder, and I found a few that look promising, but figured I'd ask around before I spent the $35. I've also noticed buttons for seat pads in front of the windows on the front casting deck, but have been unable to find any online or at my local shops that have bottom buttons like that for easy removal. I've just been using my throwable PFD for a booty pad for my lady, but would like to have the real thing. Last, but certainly not least, I have one of the base model Hummingbird fish finders that came with the boat, but would like to get a nicer one. The fish finder setup is located in front of the window, and is an SOB to see when the sun is in front of you. I guess I'll need to take the window off and move the receiver up on the console to make it easier to see. The Garmin Striker 4 was recommended to me by a friend, and it seems like a solid little rig, but I wanted to hear from someone who has some time with actual machine. ?
  5. Years ago, I fished all the time, and was knowledgeable on all the latest gear, etc. Now I'm an old fart, and thinking about doing some bass fishing again. I would really appreciate some recommendations concerning a fish finder. Things to consider: 1. Easy to operate 2. I already have a list of coordinates to enter into the new fish finder, and need an accurate GPS/fish finder to get to these locations 3. A good view of fish, bottom & structure would be nice, but most fishing would be done anchored at the various coordinates I'll be entering into the device, so getting to those exact spots is the most important function 4. Will be used only on one fresh water lake, and max depth is 50 ft. 5. Would like to spend $1000 or less 6. Would be mounted on a pontoon boat (suggestions for transducer mounting would be appreciated also) Thanks a bunch, Jack
  6. I recently got a 2017 bass tracker 175 which comes with the basic Lowrance hook 4x mounted on the dash area. Im looking to replace it more than likely with the Lowrance hook2 7x but im not sure how to go about mounting it. Anybody have a similar units mounted on their boat in that spot? Or any suggestions on how I could mount it in the same spot as the unit thats on there now? Thanks!
  7. Any recommendations for a lower to middle end Finder I have used Garmins stuff for the last 5 years and have been thru 3 now looking to try something else just mainly use for structure and depth and temps...lakes I fish are so small don't need GPS
  8. Good Day to everyone, I am new to these forums and look forward to a lot of great discussion. In the next week or so I will get my profile completed! Anyway, I was googling information about transducer mounting location and came across this website. I just bought a 1990 Champion 201 DCR bass boat with a 200hp mercury optimax outboard, I upgraded to a Raymarine fish finder and from what I understand, in order to properly use down/side imaging you shouldn't use a thru-hull transducer. It would be awesome to have everything work at speed but would at least like the depth to show without cutting out. Speed will come through GPS and the imaging isn't important at high speed really.... I will get pics up later of the back of my boat, it is stepped as most bass boats are. Just wanting it to read reliably at speed, any info helps as I am a rookie when it comes to bass boats!
  9. Hi all, I'm new to the drop shot technique and am doing the necessary research to become more familiar in advance of a late August fishing trip. It seems that (almost) everyone uses a depth/fish finder when drop shotting for largemouth, which makes sense to me. I don't have a depth/fish finder and will be fishing on a 200 acre lake in Connecticut with clear to stained water color quality (no gas powered engines are allowed) and about 80% of water is between 5-8 feet deep, but there's a 3 acre section of the lake that's 20 feet deep. Is it worth drop shot fishing without the depth/fish finder? And if so, what do I need to do to be successful? Thanks!
  10. Hi guys. I am looking for advice on which fish finder to buy for my boat...Tracker 2010 DV16 I mainly fish for bass and walleye in anywhere from 3 to 25 feet of water. I definitely want side scan capability and have done a lot of research already but wanted to hear more advice from someone who may know more. Right now I have narrowed it down to 2 options: Should I go with the Lowrance hds7 lss for $1,499.00 or The Humminbird Helix9 si for $999.00 plus I'll be using the Humminbird Transducer Exchange program to upgrade to the HD transducer for an extra $85. Thanks in advance for your help, Joe
  11. Looking into some fish finder upgrades and came across some steep discounts on Garmin echoMAP 93sv and Garmin echoMap 73sv units.
  12. Hey everyone, I have an '05 Stratos 275XL. I just started getting back into fishing and using the boat again. As I was out on the water last weekend I realized, "wow, these electronics are ancient." I am looking to upgrade from the Lowrance Mark 4 (at the helm) and the Lowrance X52 on the bow. The Mark 4 transducer is on the transom, the X52 transducer is on the trolling motor. I've had my eye on the Lowrance HDS-5. I want to keep the cost as low as possible, but I don't want to wind up getting crappy electronics. For now, since the budget is tight, I'm considering upgrading just 1 of the units and then upgrading the other in the spring. I want something that is easily upgradable in the future. I want to eventually put side imaging transducers on and possibly other sensors. Not sure how "energy efficient" the new color screen models are? What electronics do you all have? I'm looking for opinions, suggestions, comments, concerns... Thanks in advance for the help!! -Dale
  13. I do all kinds of fishing during all times of the year, and I normally do fairly well. But I am looking to take my fishing experience to the next level. I fish from a 12' Lowe Jon boat and a 20' Procraft bass boat. I live in Michigan. And I am new to the market of fishfinder. Well I have a old Hummingbird but all its good for is telling me the depth of water. I am looking for any advice for buying my first fishfinder. My price range is around $500. I have done some research and have looked at a Raymarine Dragonfly Sonar GPS and it looks nice and is around my price range but I don't know much about fishfinders. It should be noted that the majority of lakes around my area are 50-150 acres. I would like to primarily use the unit to help locate my crappie honey hole easier which is in about 10-20 ft. of water. And to catch deep bass. And the average depth of water I fish is about 10ft. (the reason I add this is I've heard different fishfinders give different readings depending on depth) A key feature I would like it to include is a map so I can mark areas I've caught fish. THANK YOU!!
  14. I'm scheming up a way to mount a transducer on my Ascend 128T that's flush with the hull's bottom. Anyone out there use a 4x3" plumbing flange & cap? Thanks, in advance, for your 2-cents.
  15. Is a Transducer arm a necessity for a Lowrance fish finder on a kayak? I'm not sure if i need to by one or now for my setup. Here is the link to the transducer arm I'm thinking about buying. Any help would be appreciated, thanks! http://www.yakattack.us/CBO_SB1_316_18_TRA1_p/cbo-sb1-316-18-tra1.htm -Will
  16. I got a Lowrance elite 4x fish finder for christmas (along with 4 $25 gift cards to bass pro on top of the one i already had), but I was looking on youtube at the 4x dsi and it looked pretty sweet and I was thinking about taking mine back and getting the dsi. Does anyone know anything about the down scanning imaging? Would it be worth the extra $40-$50 (in gift cards) i would be spending on it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
  17. Hello everyone, Im seeking advice on choosing a fish finder. I am going to purchase my first boat once I get my tax return back. Im looking at an Alumacraft mv1648. I want to have one mounted on the bow and one back(Im not good with the technical terms lol) but anyway I was hoping yall could help me find a good combo without breaking the bank. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  18. Hey guys, I have a Pelican Bass Raider 10e. I am looking at getting a fish finder for it. All I really need it to do is show me water temperature and bottom composition (structure and cover). I have it narrowed down to three fish finders. Here they are: http://www.basspro.com/Eagle-FishEasy-245-DS-Portable-Dual-Search-Sonar/product/1204070500432/ http://www.basspro.com/Humminbird-110-Fishin-Buddy-Ultimate-Portable-Fishfinder/product/97460/ http://www.basspro.com/Eagle-FishEasy-350C-Portable-Fishfinder/product/1206110840/ Do you guys think these would be able to correctly identify the bottom structure and cover or should I save my money and get a better one later? Thanks in advance!
  19. I have searched and researched and still cannot decide what to get. It is time for an upgrade for my fish finder/gps units on my boat and I cannot decide what to get. I really like the lakemaster+humminbird+minn kota (for the trolling option, seems like a dream) the only thing is lakemaster does not have any of my primary lakes on it. I am not sure how successful this combination would be without the lakemaster chip. I know you can do recorded paths but don't really know how that would compare to following depth lines. Also, on the lowrance you have the scroll back which seems handy plus I really like the touchscreen. I want a large display on the helm and a smaller one on the bow and I have a budget of ~4K. Looking for experience and some help.
  20. Hey Guys and Gals, I purchased a Hummingbird 570 DI and am pretty impressed but I feel like maybe my settings could be tweaked to gain some better results. If someone has something similar and understands all of the settings, could you take a look at my settings and let me know if there is somewhere I could do something better? 1st menu: Sensitivity: 10 out of 1-20 Lower Range: Auto Chart Speed: 8 Bottom View: Structure ID <---set here White Line Bottom Black Inverse 2nd menu (sonar) Beam Select: 455khz (highest setting) Imaging Frequency: 800khz Structure Clutter: 5 out of 1-10 Switch Fire: Max Mode Fish ID +: On Fish ID Sensitivity: 8 out of 1-10 RTS Window: Wide Zoom Width: Wide I understand depth has a lot to do with the settings, so just as an FYI, the deepest I have fished is 32' with it and will probably never see 50'. Always freshwater, always Bass. Thanks for all the help.
  21. Im about to get a kayak (I'm thinking an ascend d10 or fs10) and with it im going to get a fish finder. Just a little cheap one for around $100 and wanted to know what you guys' would get?Any trusted brands?
  22. Looking for a fish finder to put up front by my trolling motor. Currently have and old Eagle that came with the boat that I'll keep in the back. I would like to keep it around a $200 budget. I'm trying to figure out what is more important to me, color, down imaging, or gps. I see Lowrance has models that have the DSI, but then don't have traditional sonar, is that a big negative? Looking for what opinions/advise you guys might have.
  23. My OEM Lowrance X3 on the console of my Fisher Marine Marsh Hawk 165 broke so I bought a Lowrance Elite 4X to replace it. Then I got a discontinued new in the box Eagle Fishmark 320 for a price I couldn't pass up and was going to use it replace my Eagle Fish Easy that is on the bow. Would the Fishmark 320 be a better choice for the console and the Lowrance Elite 4X for the bow? Specs and photos: http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Products/Fishfinder/Elite4x-en-us.aspx http://www.eaglenav.com/en/Products/Fishfinders/FishMark-320/ Thanks in advance for your reply Kent

    Sonars

I'm looking to ad a transom mounted fish finder to my ranger. What Sonar/Fish Finder works best in your opinion for a Young tournament angler? Looking to attach it to a Minnkota Terova or alike. Would like to have GPS capabilities. Money is always a factor, but I believe that if a person has to spend money, it should be on their sonars. Suggestions?
  25. Was lucky enough to get out for a while today. I wanted to try try out a new (used) motor that I recently picked up. Wouldn't start so we spent a few hours at the ramp working on it. We finally got her going and was able to scout some water with my new SI unit. The shot below is off an old submerged dam. Excuse the noise as I'm still try to learn all of the settings and tweaks. Really excited to get back out there and see what I can find. Thanks again Wayne P. for all of the help.
