  1. Hi I don't own a boat, so rent one every weekend. A nice 14 Jon with tolling motor for $36. Obviously there's a limit to the amount of equipment I can add to a rental (they probably wouldn't like me drilling holes ;)). I wanted a depth gauge and fish finder, then I found the Garmin throwable on Amazon. It cost me a $120 for the non GPS version, after using it once I got to say it's pretty awesome. It has a cellphone phone app and connects via Bluetooth. I used a pinch clamp and the provided lanyard it secure it to the boat. Which worked well. The a battery was down about to half after 5 hours fishing, so it should last all Day. Knowing the depth made a huge difference and set me up to catch my largest fish of the year (24" chain pickerel). The unit is supposed to be castable, I just dump it over the side. Anyway finally a sonar for non boat owners Pic are a stock photo and a screenshot of the app working on my
  2. I was thinking it will be nice if we upload our fish finder and get advice from others. I don't have boat but I got ibobber, So ill start by having short clip of fish in my lake in 49 degree(water must be 51?). here you see how they are suspended. I was thinking jerk bait and spinner bait.
  3. I am currently looking to purchase the first fish finder for my 16' Ranger, I would like to eventually get two fish finders (one on console, one on bow) but can only get one right now. Is the Lowrance Elite Ti2- 7" a good option to get for now? I now I would like to get a fish finder that would allow me to network to a future finder I will put on the console. I think for now I will get the Ti2 at the console and use an iPad as a second display with the app feature. I can get the Elite Ti2-7" for a discount for $525 right now, is this a good price or should I wait for Black Friday sales? I also wanted to get a Garmin but from what I researched the STRIKER series cannot be networked. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  4. Where is the "value" point in fish finders these days? I'm looking to purchase one and I don't want to waste money. Anybody really happy with their purchase? I'd rather buy once, cry once. I'm a casual fisherman - get out about twice a month. Thanks for taking time to help!
  5. Hi all! Got a new Nitro bass boat and now looking to replace the old fish finder. Been doing some research but thought I would get other's opinions. Anyone have their best recommendations for a fish finder around $1000 and why? Thanks in advanced for your input!
  6. So in my path to becoming a better angler (specifically from a boat now) I am learning new things every day. My most forefront hurdle is mastering electronics. Specifically my Hook4x Lowrance, Ive told myself I will not upgrade to a bigger/better unit until I thoroughly understand and use this one to its max potential. I am comfortable with all the pages and settings etc although memorizing which each setting does is still hit or miss. Im currently watching several videos on youtube that talk about these units etc and reading several articles from around the web. My question to you more experienced fishermen/women is what do you see in this image below? I will write what I think below the image and I would like to compare to what the majority of you see. Any other really good articles or videos you recommend don't be afraid to post, I'm basically still in my "sponge" phase trying to soak up everything I can. This image is taken from my Hook 4x lowrance chirp with downscan (blue) on Lewisville lake Texas. At first I thought I was looking at a lot of fish, maybe bait fish. I was noticing lots of surface action with some kind of small forage type fish, not shad boils, perhaps some breed of shad that were plopping the top eating insects or what have you. But then I realized that the Downscan image would not show fish as arches, so what look like huge fish arches in the downscan (blue) image must be some sort of structure. I thought maybe something hard, but the lack of solid yellow told me that its something softer and probably organic? I would have to guess some sort of crushed tree with branches laying down. (i don't really believe that myself as i dropped a jig down there to try and "feel" it, but I actually could not come up with anything) So I leave it to the pros! comment away! Thank you in advance. P.s. do you see any "game fish" at all?
  7. HELP! Recently lost my transducer for my Bottom Line Tournament Master HR. This gadget had "sidefinder" capability and Bottom Line was bought out by Johnson/Humminbird and do not support the Bottom Line product. (probably because they want to sell you their Humminbird finders.) If anyone knows where I can buy a replacement Transducer for this fish finder please contact me. I have been using the sidefinder with great success but the parts are hard to find anywhere! The transducer is a MULTIVIEW Transducer and mountable on a trolling motor or stern.
  8. Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but it seemed the most likely. I know that the Minn Kota US2 does not support down scan, and only does the broadband, but has anyone used a Lowrance Elite 4X HDI with theirs? And if so which one of the US2 connectors did you use? I wanted to use the HDI because the 4X only has the 3.5" screen verses the 4.3" of the HDI. I have tried contacting Minn Kota, but they don't have an answer, and I figure that maybe someone here has found if this works. Thanks
  9. I've been searching for a small size simple fish finder to fit to my kayak. I have found that the Lowrance Elite 4x is probably my best choice. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with it and what their thoughts would be on it. Can anybody help me out? Thanks. And here is the link if anyone wants to take a gander, http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Products/Fishfinder/Elite4x-en-us.aspx -Will
  10. Got our my first fishing boat about two weeks ago and need a fish finder on it. I am thinking about $200-$300. What do Y'all think.
