  1. Hey guys, So I'm going to get right into it and make this short. I want a crankin' stick that can handle squarebill's, 6-10' medium divers, and traps. The two rods I have narrowed it down to is the Duckett Micro Magic Pro Crankbait rod 7' Medium power, moderate taper, and the Dobyns Fury 7' Med-Heavy Mod-fast action Taper. Which one would you chose. Any input is appreciated thanks!
  2. I'm in the market for a premier T-Rig/Jig slayer. I've made up my mind, I want a Shimano Chronarch CI 7.4:1 Gear ratio, and I want to put it on a Duckett rod. My question is - medium heavy or heavy? Which duckett rod is the best for precision Jig/T-Rig? How long?
  3. hey guys I got a quick question but first the back story. I ordered a Duckett Micro Magic about a month ago and took my reel off the rod to clean the reel and put it back on and the reel seat nut on the rod broke (the threads on the inside of the locking nut stripped out). So I contacted duckett and he said send him the logo portion of the rod and a check for $20 and he would send me a new micro magic pro. That's excellent customer service if you ask me! so my question is do I cut the rod off above the logo and send him everything from the logo down or do I cut it off above the logo and above the reel seat and just send that section of the blank? this is the first time I have sent a rod in for warranty so any help is greatly appreciated. thanks.
  4. So my thoughts on the quality of the new equipment I have been exposed to over the past few months vs what was out there 30 years ago is this: Even the least expensive baitcasting reels by Abu Garcia are much easier to use than the highest end equipment back in when I fished with my father. Basically all you had was a tension nob and thats it even the free spool buttons were on the side so if you had every thing backed off it was a two handed motion to start the cast. Learning to use a baitcaster back then took quite a bit of effort and time. That is just to not backlash anytime you made a cast, now you can almost tune my new Shimano Curado I to cast without any thumb control. Its not the most accurate way to do it and you have to be smooth but I played around with it and an an old Bantam. I think the Lews V Spool was one of the first reels that had any kind of breaking. I am astounded with the smothness of even my Abu Black Max which is just about as cheap of a reel as you can get these days. I have always prefered Abu and Shimano reels. Probably the reel I am most disapointed with is my Diawa Lexa and that is is just because of its initial MSRP. I think a real at above $100 should have dual braking these days, maybe that is why TW and Gander Mountain have the reel on sale now for $69.99 which is what I paid. The lines of today are shockingly sensative as are the rods, I have a $50.00 Shimano Clarus casting rod that is worth every penny of the original MSRP and I can feel so much sensation with it I am actually really confused about what I am feeling and spend more time working out whats what than actually fishing at this point. That is to me the allure of fishing for Bass learing and refining techniques. I think by the time in a few months when I can cast my reels with the right settings and hit a paper cup with a jig from the other side of the world 95 out 100 times its going to be a blast. Not sure if this post makes sense, I was just kind of thinking of all the differences from the last 30 years and they are as astounding in fishing as they are in comparing my old Apple desktop 30 years ago to my iPad today.
  5. My buddy recently showed a video to me about deep crankin' hosted by David Dudley. It totally changed my view on deep crankin' and the rod I should select to crank deep for hogs. Ive noticed a few other guys on here like to use Medium-Heavy rods to deep crank, but I own a 7' Heavy power Fast action Duckett Micro Magic and was wondering if it would work just as well. I can't afford to go out and buy a new rod just for this technique, because I am saving up for my first spinning set up for a tournament I am going to be fishing in May. If you guys could just give me some opinions on this deep crankin' theory that would be awesome. I would also like to hear if y'all agree with me using a Heavy power rod instead of a Medium-Heavy. Anyone out there will tell you a Duckett rod has extremely fast action, that is why I believe my Heavy power Duckett will work. Thanks, TCN P.S. Heres the video if your interested-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0hacikQwoc if that doesn't work just search "David Dudley Deep Cranking" on youtube and you should find it pretty easy.
  6. Hey fellas, I am fishing my first tournament this upcoming May on Greers Ferry here in the great state of Arkansas. I will be co-angling and from research I will most likely be predominately throwing finesse rigs from the back of the boat. I currently own a 7' Heavy Micro-Magic Duckett fast action with a 7:1:1 Lew's Tournament Speed Spool and a 7' Medium Micro Magic Duckett fast action with a 6:4:1 Lew's TSS Also. I have a 6'6" BPS extreme Medium Heavy with a Nitro Tournament Z 6:4:1, but will most likely not be taking it because the reel is a piece of garbage. I don't have a spinning set up and am looking to purchase one before the tournament in May. I love my Ducketts and have had no problems with them over the past year and a half, but I noticed these Cashion Rods the other day and was intrigued by the way they are built and the features they have on them. My plan is to get either a 7' Medium or Medium Heavy Duckett Micro-Magic Spinning rod. Like I said though These Cashion Rods have caught my eye and I may go with there 7'2" Shaky Head Rod (Medium Heavy). I just wanted to get some of yall's opinions on the two spinning rods and see which one y'all would select from the two. Also if you have anything to say about the tournament I will be fishing in I am open to anything y'all have to say. Thanks, TCN
  7. Which do you think will be better?
  8. IM REALLY LOOKING FOWARD TO THESE NEW RODS ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY ARE GOING FOR $99. I HAD SOME BUDS AT BASS PRO SAY DUCKETTS SOMETIMES SUCK FOR QUALITY REASONS. ANYONE KNOW THE MAIN DIFFERENCES THAT MAKE THE ROD CHEAPER THEN THE MICRO MAGIC?? LOOKS LIKE BOYD WAS USING A REEL IN HIS LATEST VIDEO MAYBE THATS ONE COMING OUT SOON ON HIS DUCKETT FISHING COMPANY
  9. I'm looking for a new baitcaster. My budget is 100-150$ for the reel and around 100 for a rod. I've checked out the shimano citica 200g7 which I really like but could someone else give me some advice? I will be using this for jigs and soft plastics if that helps. Can someone give me a good rod to go with it? I really like the duckett rods i just need to know which one would be best for the type of fishing I'll be doing. Thanks for the help everyone!!
  10. I'm looking for a new spinnerbait and shallow diving crankbait rod. Which would you recommend $120-$170. This will be paired with the new Lews BB-1 or Tournament pro.
  11. Debating the 3 rods for finesse 7'-7'3" spinning med-lite to med. Will be used for shakey head, skipping docks, light t rigs, senkos, and other finesse baits.
  12. I just purchased a Chronarch 201E6 and am thinking about pairing it up with a Duckett Micro Magic 6'9 MH. Does anyone have any experience with Duckett's or any other recommendations for rods to pair with this reel?
