  1. Coming from a trout background using flies and inline spinners I've never had use for terminal loop knots. Now that I'm learning to fish for bass and crappie I do. (Admittedly there is a loop not used for dry flies but I never learned it or used it.) Are there more than one of these loop knots? Are any of them more reliable than others? I look forward to your replies and learning how to tie a loop knot.
  2. I'm looking for a new "multipurpose" rod/combo that could be used for walking baits, jerkbaits, or small crankbaits; mostly medium sized trebled baits under 1 1/2 oz. Also, do you think a curado 70 would work for these kinds of applications? It would be best if any rod suggestions were under or near 200.
  3. Which cranks do you fish on the Legend Glass 7'2'' mm or the 7'4'' mh . Where do they start to shine and where do they stop. I like to cast lures in the 3/8-1/2 oz range, like the DT6, Jackall Jaco 58 MR, Lucky Craft square bills 1.5 lc rt and 1/2 oz lipless cranks.
  4. What are everyone's thoughts about the new St Croix Victory series? Did you buy one? I'm purposely holding off until I read more reviews on them. I've heard mixed reviews. I'm in the market for a crankbait rod and I don't know whether I like the 7'2" MH Power Target Crank rod or if I should go with a MH Legend Glass rod instead... what have you heard about the new rod series (any model)? Do you own any Legend Glass rods? Or mojo glass? Should I go with the tried and true or try something new?
  5. I’ve been looking into fiberglass or composite rods and doing research on some different manufacturers. This will be my first glass/composite rod. It will be for cranking and chatterbaits/bladed jigs. Hoping it might help me with allowing the fish to get the bait better and with fighting fish. I know that many people say glass is heavier and less sensitive than graphite. The B-Hittay from the Randall Tharp Ark series is currently at the top of my list. I’ve read great reviews and it’s hard to pass up at that price. I’ve also looked into the Daiwa Tatula Elite 7’4” MH-R glass rod. Anyone have experience with either of these models? Any other suggestions worth a look? Trying to keep it under $200.
  6. ok i fish the Charles river dock in Watertown and i have been for the past 2 weeks every day for at least 1 hour each time and i havent even seen a bass yet should i leave it or no it looks good and all and it has bait fish perch sunfish and all that stuff and i might have seen people catch a bass there but ya. also this river is either murky or murky clear it has weeds and logs in the water i have already lost like 4 lures there and it has alot of green stuff that gets on my lures any tips i normally go there around 245 at latest arive around 4 and fish until 530 and no bass. i have fished it all top water senko crankbait spinnerbait crawfish and no action on anything at all except for some sunfish and 4 inch bass looking things that i can drop my lure right infront of them since they camp the dock and they will nibble it and swim away every time thats the most action i ever got. i dont know what to fish it anymore what lures to use how to use them and all that i think i need a complete refresh of knowlage and tips can yall help me out.
  7. Hey all first post here. I purchased a Duckett Micro Magic Pro 7' Medium MOderate cranking three weeks ago and have been using it a fair amount. While it is a great rod and I enjoy using it, I mainly throw 1/2 oz Red Eye Shads exclusively. Do you thing that the rod is too flimsy for this? Have it paired with 6.3:1 SLX XT and 15 lb abrazx. Note that I am ripping it through a fair amount of grass when fishing it. I'm wondering if I should keep it or switch to a Dobyns 705cb. Thanks
  8. My question is as follows: What do y’all use or think is a good size rod for a 6:3:1 baitcaster reel with the intent to use crankbaits on it such as the DT-6 and DT-10? I have heard a 7’ to 7’ 2” power: medium and action:moderate is a good rod for crankbait fishing. What are your thoughts or personal setups?
  9. Can anyone identify this crankbait? It has a small bead in center of eye and is a pale yellow rather tha green on side... has an orange stripe down belly. IMG_3537.HEIC
  10. I'm looking for a spinning rod in a medium action/ moderate tip to get for my lady. This will be for throwing small-ish reaction baits of about 6-11 grams. Namely, squarebills and lipless crankbaits, small swimbaits and underspins with exposed hooks, little spinnerbaits and the occasional popper. Something in about 6'10" preferably, and "budget friendly", a la Dobyns Colt. Extra points for bright colors. She likes bright colors. The reel will be spooled with braid (10-12#) and a fluoro leader for everything but topwater. Thanks in advance for your help.
  11. Hey everyone, so my go-to is the Yum Dinger/Yum Finesse Worm (Wacky, Neko, Carolina in Green Pumpkin, Watermelon Red Flake, June Bug). This spring I want to start expanding more and using Arkie Jigs. Does anyone have any recommendation on their favorite brand and color, trailer (craws/grubs/paddletails) combinations for the different seasons? Which works best for you? Also, how do you normally retrieve such jigs with the specific combinations? Again, I am just looking to expand and perfect my arsenal one at a time. Any help would be amazing I also use Crankbaits (Berkely Pitbull 5.5 Squarebill), Buzz Baits (Booyah 3/8 top water) and Swimbaits (Powerbait 4" Rib Shads ) but for some reason or another unsuccessful using them. I will save that for another thread lol.
  12. I did a post a while back about cranking rods, finally went with the IMX Pro 845c. Now looking for a reel to go with it, daiwa or shimano fanboy, kinda looking now at either a used antares, a metanium MGL, a bantam mgl or daiwa steezs. Any experience on this topic and ideas on what would balance the rod best? WRB talked in my older post about IPT on 100 sized reels, I would like to take this into consideration. what to do? Sincerly, Nathan,
  13. Hi guys, I've decided I should use my CB more and the reason I'm not using them is that my gear is almost all fast action or beyond except for trout rods. I was pretty much set on the Fenwick Lunker Stik in 7'3" lenght. I was wondering which power should I buy ? There is a Medium and a Medium Heavy. I have lots of thinfin size 6 and a few others. Also Rapala Lipless Rattlin Rap size 7 and 8. I could probably use the spinning med/mod. fast Elite Tech bass for the TF but I figure I would need something else for the lipless and larger cranks ?
  14. Hey folks! I've had this crankbait for a long time, and need help identifying it. Its rattles are pretty loud, and would guess it can dive somewhere between 2' to 8'. Thanks all! Wish this thing had any text etched on it!
  15. I just wanted to post a few lures I made that have produced fish for me in the last few weeks. The tail on the green crankbait gives it very unique action I have found.
  16. I'm looking for a new crankbait rod that's between 7'10" to 8' in length. Something I would throw 6XD's mostly on, maybe an 8XD. Only rod I found in that category was the Powell Endurance rods but never had a Powell rod so unsure if they're good or not.
  17. I was looking to get a casting rod for crankbaits. Id mostly be throwing squarebills, lipless, and medium diving crankbaits. Im conflicted because i dont know if I should have a rod with moderate or fast action.
  18. I have had success using squarebills for largemouth. I've never really used them for smallies. Most the smallmouth waters I fish are fairly deep, clear water. Crankbaits need to mostly be bounced off the bottom, usually rock. I'm wondering who has had success with them for smallmouth and how exactly you use them. And of course, what are your preferred brands and colors. For largemouth, I like Strike King KVD 1.5's a lot. Mostly natural Shad and bluegill colors.
  19. I realize this may be a shot in the dark but I’m trying to find Lucky Craft SKT DR RT model crankbaits in the Chart Shad pattern. Ive searched high and low for this model, no luck on eBay (can find the MR all day). If anyone has a hutch on these it’s greatly appreciated!
  20. I decided to try out lipless crankbaits recently so I bought the strike king red eye shad. (2-tap version) On my first cast I caught a 2 - 3 pound bass. They seem to work really well in my pond, but I hate fishing them because I have to just burn them as fast as I can to keep them from getting snagged on the bottom. Does anybody have any recommendations for a shallow water lipless? I've been looking at the Rat-l-trap, but I don't know if it would have the same problem or not.
  21. What kind of retrieve do you usually use for a squarebill crankbait? I've heard to just reel it, but I was just wondering how you guys do it. Also, is a bluegill color a good choice around this time of year?
  22. I was wondering which KVD square bill crankbait colour works best other than the shad colours. I live in Canada, and there are no shad, so I dont know which colours would work good up here. Im thinking about purchasing the river minnow colour, river shiner colour or any of the natural colours(river bream, pumpkinseed). Any suggestions help, thanks.
  23. This is going to sound weird but I have never fished a Crankbait before. I primarily fish soft plastics and I also fish from the bank. Is a crankbait a good option and if so what would you guys recommend? I don't want to break the bank here, I'm thinking 2 or 3 to start. What is the least expensive and good quality that you guys recommend?
  24. I'm thinking about picking one of these up as my next addition to the arsenal. Obviously I want to use it for jerkbaits, but it seem like it would be perfect for smaller spook-type baits and poppers as well. I would also want to use it for cranking squarebills through/near structure. I know people generally prefer longer rods for crankbaits, but I think this rod would probably be better suited to it than the two rods I already own. I fish a lot from a kayak so the smaller overall length and grip are probably even more of a benefit in that context. Any thoughts, commentaries, alternative suggestions? Thanks.
  25. I have my next rod purchase narrowed down, but need help picking a model/brand. I want to add a 6'6" Med/Mod-F Spinning rod to the arsenal for throwing all kinds of smaller treble hook style baits. The shorter length is specifically for walking-the-dog and working jerkbaits. This is also to help with accuracy when throwing squarebill cranks at timber. I plan to use this rod with spooks, poppers, crankbaits and jerkbaits, all on the smaller end of the spectrum. Any suggestions?
