  1. I'm going to be putting together a spinner bait/chatter bait setup for next season and need to pick a reel. I already have a Daiwa Tatula CT and it's been great. The 13 Fishing G2 Inception causes that itch in brain and I wanted to find out for those who use it, how it is it? Thoughts on comparing both reels? I'm thinking a 6.x:1 ratio would be good?
  2. Hi guys, my curado 200i just broke so I'm in need for a new reel. So far, I have a: topwater/jerkbait/weightless plastic rod (6'8 M/F St-croix bassX) paired with a daiwa tatula 100 frog/punching/swimbait rod (7'10 H/F St-croix bassX) paired with a daiwa tatula 200 and my jig/chatterbait/texas rig (7'1 MH/F st-croix mojobass) which used to be paired with a curado 200i I already looked up on Daiwa website and the Elite, Elite P/F, Tatula 150 as well as their tatula sv tws all look interesting but can't figure out which one would be more appropriate for the use. I really like Daiwa's breaking system but I'm still open to suggestions.
  3. Hey Bass Resource, If I could only have 5 baits to fish with these are the 5 Must Have Baits in my boat! Hope you all like it! James Niggemeyer
  4. I’ve been looking into fiberglass or composite rods and doing research on some different manufacturers. This will be my first glass/composite rod. It will be for cranking and chatterbaits/bladed jigs. Hoping it might help me with allowing the fish to get the bait better and with fighting fish. I know that many people say glass is heavier and less sensitive than graphite. The B-Hittay from the Randall Tharp Ark series is currently at the top of my list. I’ve read great reviews and it’s hard to pass up at that price. I’ve also looked into the Daiwa Tatula Elite 7’4” MH-R glass rod. Anyone have experience with either of these models? Any other suggestions worth a look? Trying to keep it under $200.
  5. I was late to the game when it comes to bladed jig/chatterbait fishing, but I’ve had a lot more time for fishing this year because of COVID and social distancing and whatnot, so I’ve done what I’ve always done when I wanted to learn or get better with a specific lure... I put it in my hand and tried not to put it down. I’ve grown to really like using bladed jigs, and I normally always have one on the deck. My question arises as we get deeper into fall and then into winter (we’re still dealing with temps in the 70s most of the time in South Louisiana, but we’ve had a few cold fronts and more to come in the near future lol). My go-to trailer is a Zoom Super Fluke, but I also like paddle tails like Rage Swimmers or Keitech’s. With water temps dropping, I’m wondering what others like to use for a smaller profile trailer. Obviously I plan to try the Zoom Tiny Fluke and smaller versions of the paddle tails, but I was hoping to get some other recommendations of trailers to try out. So what do you guys think??
  6. ok i fish the Charles river dock in Watertown and i have been for the past 2 weeks every day for at least 1 hour each time and i havent even seen a bass yet should i leave it or no it looks good and all and it has bait fish perch sunfish and all that stuff and i might have seen people catch a bass there but ya. also this river is either murky or murky clear it has weeds and logs in the water i have already lost like 4 lures there and it has alot of green stuff that gets on my lures any tips i normally go there around 245 at latest arive around 4 and fish until 530 and no bass. i have fished it all top water senko crankbait spinnerbait crawfish and no action on anything at all except for some sunfish and 4 inch bass looking things that i can drop my lure right infront of them since they camp the dock and they will nibble it and swim away every time thats the most action i ever got. i dont know what to fish it anymore what lures to use how to use them and all that i think i need a complete refresh of knowlage and tips can yall help me out.
  7. Hi BR, Hope you all are going to hit the lake this weekend! When it comes to bladed jig trailer selection it can be pretty confusing what to put on. Well in this video I share my Top 3 Bladed jig trailers. Hope you like and thanks for watching! JN
  8. I’ve been using a bladed jig/chatterbait much more lately. I’m usually throwing a 1/4oz (sometimes 3/8) with a rage swimmer or Keitech trailer in 5-6ft of water with 2-4ft of submerged grass. Currently using my lipless rod... Falcon Bucoo Trap Caster 7’ MH/MF with a 6.3:1 Shimano SLX spooled up with 12# Yo Zuri Top Knot. I was burning it over the grass and I lost quite a few fish on their first jump. Felt like I got a good hookset, but fish came off like I didn’t. Any ideas?
  9. Hey guys, im looking to buy a nice casting rod. I don’t know what to look for in a rod as far as power and length go. I’ve read a moderate action paired with a medium heavy power will be good for pretty much anything I throw (cranks, spinners, and ChatterBaits) but I don’t know about length or good brands. Any input you guys can give would be great. Right now my budget range is $100-$175 i cant really fathom spending more than that seeing as how I’m still trying to pay rent while in college lol.
  10. Im thinking about getting a new reel for spinnerbaits and squarebills I have always used 63,64 but times seem to be changing and a lot of you are using 71,74 for theses aplications. I have a 71 for jigs worms to retrieve my line quick when pitching but what do you guys think on spinnerbaits and squarebills chatterbaits is 71,74 best for these aplications? Should I get with the times? What are you guys using?
  11. Hey guys, I'm looking at a new specific reel that only comes in 7.3:1, and is 30 inches per crank, could I use this for swimjigs, chatterbaits and spinnerbaits or should I just find a 6.3:1 instead, another question; what gear ratio should I use for belly weighted swimbaits like rage swimmers?? Thanks
  12. I'm looking into getting a new setup for chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, and other open hook moving baits. So far I've narrowed it down to two rods and thee reels. The rods are the Daiwa Tatula XT cranking rods in a 7' MH reg. glass rod, and a Denali Jadewood J2 7' MH mod. I don't know much about glass rods, any tips or advice? The reels are the Lews Speed Spool LFS, the Lews Mach I Speed Spool, and the Shimano Casitas 150. I notice the Mach I weighs half an ounce more, yet has a deeper spool, whereas the Casitas has less line capacity than both reels. Any thoughts on what to get or anything about the equipment? Thank you.
  13. So I have a question for everyone.. how do you go about choosing weight size for jig like lures? I don't or haven't done much jig fishing so I feel like I'm completely clueless when it comes to trying to determine wherther I should choose 1/2oz 3/8oz or maybe 3/4oz jig size jigs.. the same concept for trying to figure out chatterbaits and tungsten punch weights... I'm guessing people are going to say it depends what kind of structure I'm fishing and how deep.. I have no idea how deep I am fishing usually because I have a small inflatable pontoon boat with no electronics.. but I do have some maps that I printed out on the lakes I fish and most of the time it's usually no more than 10-15ft max just because it is usually pretty shallow with lay down trees, stumps, lots of submerged vegetation Lilly pads. Also lots of various docks too. The majority of the lakes are not very big lakes but have excellent cover for hiding bass.. I'm up in western Washington just south of Seattle.. anyways any help or suggestions any can offer is so very greatly appreciated! I have learned so much from you guys already but never really did much if any jig fishing... Growing up it was always spinner bait and crankbaits when bass fishing... I feel like I'm not a complete bass angler because jig fishing isn't such a hug staple in a bass angler arsenal..
  14. Ok guys, looking to get started in "Chatterbait" fishing, have read a lot about common problems with these style baits. Ex; blades detaching, consistent wobble, hook strength, length and trailer keeper etc. So a shout out to the hardcore "Chatterbait" fisherman.......... What's THE best make and model and why? Also any tips on trailers or techniques are appreciated. Thanks
  15. Let me start this off by letting everyone know that I fish from the bank 90% of the time so I like to pack light for fishing trips. I also just started using baitcasting gear recently so I'm building my arsenal up. Anyways, I'm picking out a new rod and reel for myself for Christmas from my wife and I need some advice. I'm looking for a rod that will be good for reaction baits. I'd say 50% of my reaction bait fishing is lipless cranks, 25% squarebills, 20% spinnerbaits, and 5% chatterbait. What power and action would you guys recommend to cover all of these bases?
  16. I recently bought a couple chatterbaits but haven't had much luck with them yet. What's everyone's experience with these VS spinnerbaits? I'm guessing any situation where I might throw a spinnerbait is where I'd throw a chatterbait? Is this pretty close to the mark? What's y'all's take? Also, does blade color matter much on them (e.g. shinny gold/silver VS flat black/brown)?

  18. Are there times when you find a rattletrap works better or worse than a chatterbait? They seem to do basically the same thing, only the chatterbait is jig based so it's going to be more versatile and lifelike in many ways. What about those two compared to regular crankbaits? I just don't see much of a use for regular crankbaits anymore, since rattletraps and chatterbaits can be worked at any depth. Thoughts?
  19. I recently picked up one of the new Picasso Shock Blade bladed swim jigs (chatterbaits) in the 3/4oz versions. After using it yesterday, it seems to work fairly well for the most part. However, I did notice that the lure would like to "turn over" during the retrieve and I would have to give it a twitch to get the lure to straighten up and start working (chattering) again. I tried two different trailers and neither fixed this problem. This is the first bladed swim jig I have used that wasn't made by Zman, or in other words, one that doesn't have the blade attached directly to the head. Has anyone else experienced this problem before?
  20. What's the best brand and color of chatterbait? I fish mostly clear to stained water in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan
  21. I'm new to this whole top water fishing thing. This may be a dumb question to some, but can the walking the dog(still practicing by the way) technique be effective when using a popper? Also, are there any advantages to using a chatterbait vs. a buzz bait? Thanks
  22. Hey guys - just a fun prefishing report here, Was invited to Prefish a pond that two buddies of mine are fishing for their big bass club next weekend. We hit the water around 06:30 a.m. and began throwing Senkos up near the bank along the edge from the boat ramp. About 15 or 20 minutes of this produced no bites so we shifted across the pond to another bank. I flipped over and started casting out towards the middle and had a serious thump - set the hook..only to have empty line come flying back at me. Can only assume a Pickerel chomped it. After checking for any abrasion spots on the line I retied and got back out there. Failed to hook anything for awhile but the other two guys started getting small keepers on various green/green pumpkin colored senkos (had 4 in about 35 minutes). I switched to a jig and was tossing it out deeper. I started feeling some really nice grass down on the bottom (you know..the kind you just love to rip a crankbait through in the spring). No dice on the jig either...so I tried a chatterbait in green pumpkin with a few blue strands. 3rd cast with this and it felt like I hit a serious clump of grass...except my bait started to dive downwards - I sink the hookset and after a minor fight, land a 2lb 10 oz fish. He had absolutely choked the Chatterbait, I dehooked him, quickly weighed and got him back in the water because he was bleeding (no picture sadly, was more concerned with keeping him alive). Kept throwing the Chatterbait out, had a monster hit about 15 minutes later, but I set the hook and the line went slack - no dice. by this time we were out in the absolute middle of the pond, and one of the guys threw on an Xcalibur crankbait. 3 casts in he hooks and lands one 3lbs 3 oz (weighed, confirmed). 2 casts later he gets a small one I'd eyeball just shy of 2 lbs (didn't weigh). I decided to join in and tossed on my live target squarebill baitball. Took about 10 casts but I got a 2lber. We fished about another 90 minutes, but really it was just catching - every handful of casts someone had a fish on - all keepers. Turns out that grass was the place to be. Sadly I didn't get any pictures (the one guy asked not to be photographed with the big fish, and honestly I was having to much fun catching afterwards to really think about pulling out the phone for pictures). Anyhow, overall a great day. Above is the Chatterbait I was using. I have no idea what company makes this particular chatterbait, but I wish I did, it performs exceptionally well and I've used it for a long time now, so if anyone can tell from the pictures, please let me know. As an aside/slight gear review, this was my first chance to use my Kistler Carbon Steel rod which came highly recommended for chatterbait use. It performed perfectly, could feel all the tiny vibrations throughout the rod, and it was readily apparent when something changed about the way the chatterbait was swimming. Had it paired with my Lews Tournament Pro 7.1:1 - an excellent combo that I think will remain paired for a long time. Thanks for reading!
  23. So, being just a regular pondhopper, around Memphis, TN, I've never fished a tournament till yesterday. Before hand, I had some help from Kent(Roadwarrior) with about what to fish and some gear he let me use. I fished with a club called West Tennessee Elite (wtebc.com). I fished co-angler with an experienced fisherman that knew what was happening and he put us in the right place. It was an evening tournament so we fished 4 pm - 10pm. So, for about 5 of those 6 hours we fished a lillypad/weed line with chatterbaits. We ended up both catching 4! Both throwing a Z-Man Chatterbait in a few different colors. My biggest fish ended up weighing 4lbs 7oz and his biggest was 4lbs 15oz. He ended up winning 2nd in boaters and I won 1st in co-anglers. Well my bag was the biggest of the day out of everybody weighing 13lbs 10oz and the guy who won boaters was 11lbs 10oz. None of them actually really got on em or they we're having a bad day I'm assuming. But, all in all great experience and big thanks too Kent.
