  1. I have read many reviews on BPS's own website on the lack of durability on these rods. On the other hand, people on this very forum have endorsed this rod as a good casting rod to use overall. From what I gather it is a pretty great rod to use(sensitivity wise and just general use and weight), however, many had the rod break on them under regular circumstances such as during the hookset. What is the whole story of the durablity issues? (As I see this as a major blocking point from purchasing this rig)
  2. So this week bass pro is starting their spring classic sale... they are running a deal where if you buy the carbonlite reel you get the rod for free. This essentially saves $120, but on top of that if you trade in a reel you can the carbonlite reel for only 100 dollars. Does anybody have experience with the rod and reel and would you recommend it? There's not too much out there on the carbonlite 2.0 so I was just wondering if I'm getting a good deal here.
  3. Hello, I am having a tough decision on which rod to buy. I hear that both rods are really good and are under my budget of $100 for a rod. I want to know which one is better for my needs. I'm going to use Jigs and T Rigged Soft Plastics so sensitivity and durability is my top priority for this purchase. I will also purchase another rod for using lures with treble hooks in the future so a recommendation for that application will also be useful. Any advice will be helpful. Thanks
  4. Hey all, does anyone know if there are replacement handles available for the older gold carbonlite reels? I have 3 still going strong but one of the handles cracked yesterday on a hookset. Thanks!
  5. I'm thinking of picking up a Johnny Morris CarbonLite casting combo in H/XF for my new pitching rig. For $30 more I can get the CarbonLite over a Pro Qualifier. Looks like it has better components, it's 3oz lighter, more bearings, and both the mag and centrigual breaks can be set without having to open the side-plate. Seems like it would be well worth the $30. But Pro Qualifiers seem to have such a huge following, and I can get that one in a 7.1:1 as opposed to a 6.4:1 on the CL. I'm not quite sure if I should just go with that instead? I'd also be open to any other suggestions in the $220 price range for a pitching combo. It doesn't have to be H/XF necessarily, but I'd like a rod that can pitch a decent distance into some thick cover and am looking for an easy to use LH retrieve b/c reel (it'll be my first b/c). I know a lot of you will just recommend that I go to the store and see how they feel in my hand but there isn't a BPS anywhere near where I live and the local tackle shops don't carry many of the brands I was thinking off (BPS, Lews, Powell, Ducket). I can find *** here and Abu Garcia and I'm pretty sure I would be really happy with a Revo SX on an *** Black but that would be a little above my budget. I feel kind of bad posting so many questions about pitching rigs lately but it'll be the most money I put on a rig to date and I really value this community's opinions.
  6. i just bought this reel in 6.4;1 rh and i had taken it apart to clean the excess grease the manufacturers put on it and i stripped the screw that goes inside the frame i don't know what to do honestly. i was hoping for tips on how to get out a stripped screw.
  7. So I went to Bass Pro today to pick up my new 15 lb Boga Grip (holy cow that thing is smooth) as well as to pick up a new Carbonlite "CL" casting rod. There were no white Carbonlites on display. They'll be up for Black Friday. There were 6 fishing employees unpacking stuff for BF sales and I asked if the white Carbonlite will be replacing the black models. One guy spoke up and said "No, we will sell the two colors." So the white will be the "Carbonlite" and the black will be the "Carbonlite CL".... "CL" standing for Carbonlite... Hopefully that was accurate info. If anyone else went to BPS and asked, can you confirm?
  8. In the last 6 months I discovered the power of the jig and it's now one of my confidence baits. Now I'm just debating what rod to purchase. As a high school student I've been saving up my money for a while so I want a setup that'll be money well spent. As a member of the high school bass fishing team I've come to enjoy the competitive aspect of bass fishing. Last year my friend and I placed 5th out of 21 boats in a sectional tournament (and we were the only freshmen present!). This year I'd like to step it up and add a 2nd rod to my arsenal (hopefully make it to state). My strength is pitching very accurately and thoroughly fishing an area. So the selling points of a fishing rod for me is the rod balance and sensitivity. Here are some choices below I'm debating about. St Croix Legend Tournament 7'1" medium heavy power, fast action sku: TBC71MHF $260 Kistler Helium 3 7'1" medium heavy power, extra fast action sku: He3MH71XF $260 Any opinions and/or other rod recommendations will be well appreciated. Thank you.
  9. Well, I did it, and with my wife's blessing (plus I traded in two eye sore old rods), I bought two 6'6" M/F Carbonlites, one spinning and one casting rod, for roughly the price of a St. Croix Premier. Not bad... Paired the spinning with my Lexa 2000 and it balances perfectly. I knew what to expect, somewhat, having owned a Carbonlite briefly, years ago. But the lightness bests my Avid + Stradic setup as far as I can feel. Now I'll have to see how it fishes. The casting rod is setup with my Chronarch 50e and is also fantastic in balance. Can't wait to try them out. Just thought I'd share... Now I'm done with rods for the year... part of the deal, LOL.
  10. Does anyone have any experience with both the carbonlite medium power rods and the shimano crucial mediums? Sensitivity, action of the tips, weight of the rods, etc.. are all things I'm interested in hearing about. Thanks!
  11. I would like to hear your thoughts on this rod series from those that own them. I'm looking specifically at the 7'6" Heavy XF model for fishing larger swimbaits in deep water and umbrella rigs, but I like the way that rod feels so much I'm interested in how the other models in this series performs as well. They are extremely light rods.
  12. Looking at getting a new baitcaster and was looking a the BPS reels and I was wondering the difference between Carbonlite and Signature Series. Which ones better, or which one you prefer.
