  1. Hey Yall! Been diving in deep into Ultralight fishing lately and have been having a blast with stud gills and the occasional 2lb - 3lb largemouth. Something about that light tackle is suuuuper fun especially with the bigger fish. Its got me super curious in targetting smallmouth since they are such hard fighters! They remind me of a cross between bluegill and largies. Where are some of the best places to target smallies around Sacramento and the greater area? I have a pedal drive kayak as well. Thanks in advance!
  2. I recently bought a fishing kayak and have a trip planned in a few days on a clear water fishery. 10ft+ visibility. Weather is looking like clear skies and low wind. I've only ever been a pond bank fisherman so I have way more confidence in dirty water than I do clear. Big jigs, big spinnerbaits, big creatures baits are my usual, connected to 15-20lb mono leaders. What should I try using in clear water? I have some underspins, small t-rigged craw and worms, smaller spinnerbaits, would those work?

  4. Hello all, I'm a new resident to Southern California. I am a Florida transplant. I was involved with club tournaments, local opens, some BASS events, and some FLW events. Now living in Los Angeles, i have yet to go fishing and the itch has begun. I'm seeking some help to see if someone would have an open seat or a spot in there club for a non-boater. But any information would be awesome. Thanks so much
  5. Does anybody know what will happen to the fish if our lake (lake Casitas) if it dries up due to a drought? They can't just let the fish die.;( Does anybody have a solution to this issue? Thank you
  6. Hi from Temecula California! I started fishing about 3 months ago (as I live on a small lake) and first took my 2 daughter out (8 & 5) to catch bluegill because it is so easy on my lake. I decided to try for something larger and grabbed my first largemouth, I was hooked! (no pun intended) It seems to be all I think about now (just ask my wife) I have since upgraded my walmart spinning reel and added a baitcaster to the arsenal. Youtube has been a great help (shout out to Glenn May) This site is awesome! I love being able to ask questions and help in any way I can with people who share my passion. Peace and love Alex
  7. Renting a bass boat at Diamond Valley Lake this Wednesday! First time on this lake. I called and they said stripper and largemouth bite has picked up. ANY advise would be much appreciated. TIA Alex
  8. Has any one fished this lake lately.
  9. Just seeing if theres anyone else from the Bay Area here that might want to go fish some local stuff.
  10. So I watched the weigh in live today and the telling Mercer to bring a Classic to the Delta. Not that big a deal. Then all of a sudden Trip Weldon gets on the mic and says that the group that evaluates sites for the Classic have or are in fact looking at Sacramento as a possible site for a future Classic. Then several of the pros mentioned having the classic out there, maybe because they heard the comments by Trip but maybe that is the rumor. I know next year it is going to be on Grand Lake but they have to look out more than one or two years. So now I am wondering is this years tournament just a dry run to gauge interest for a 2017 or 2018 Classic?

My personal best catfish (15~ lb) caught out of a reservoir in Orange County, Califronia while fishing for bass. Caught on a jig!
  12. Hi everyone! My name is André J. Davillae! I'm from Southern California (Los Angeles South Bay to be exact). Fishing has always been my favorite hobby. I first learned how to fish with my Uncle at a local park lake fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass. I spent the rest of my years saltwater inshore fishing at some of Southern California's beautiful beaches with him and a lot of times with my Mama. It was a great way for us to bond, and it really helped show me how important outdoor activities are for families. I do prefer freshwater fishing as it's a bit more relaxing than having to deal with loud, crashing waves of the fast-moving ocean, and it's less crowded than having dozens of people jam-packed onto one pier. I'm not exclusively a bass fisherman when it comes to freshwater fishing, but I do prefer bass (especially smallmouths, I hear they put up the best fight). I found this site because I was looking for a forum more active than TakeMeFishing, which isn't very active at all. And seeing how active this site is, I'm hoping I can learn a lot of great things about bass fishing and perhaps make a couple of fishing buddies. Fishing with friends is just as important as fishing with family, and I hope to make some friends with whom I can go fishing.
  13. Hello, I'll be moving to Santa Cruz in roughly 5 months and I'm wondering if anyone recommends any lakes to fish at. It would be even better if you would share your experience at that lake as well (i.e. what worked and didn't work). Thank you.
  14. Hello all, my name is Joey, I work in the world of political talk radio and the show I produce for can be heard daily from 5-9AM Pacific time here: http://www.kogo.com/main.html I grew up originally fishing in Ohio, spent a short time in Florida and ended up in San Diego. I've been using this forum for many years as great source for fishing style and gear tips and am happy to join. Living by the ocean I do ton of saltwater fishing to go along with black bass and have even had the opportunity to catch both freshwater and saltwater bass in the same day. I fish the little known San Diego River more than any other body of water as it's a hidden gem for big bass. Only downside is that in a big city like this many meth heads and homeless make the riverbed their home so I have to keep my head on a swivel while reeling in a 5 pounder. But again I'm happy to join and look forward to participating in many conversations like on which is a better longterm reel to own, a new Curado I or a Lew's Tournament Pro....My nod goes to the Curado.
  15. Hey guys, CalBassin here!! Just wondering if anyone here fishes the Cal Delta as well and if so, what do you fish with? And what colors? I've seen many red looking craws in the water so I've been using black and red jigs n such. Anyone else have any useful insight? Thanks!
