  1. Does anyone have this reel and recommend it?
  2. I have a Calcutta 100GT TE that is without a rod currently, and I have a tournament in two weeks. The Gear Ratio is 5.8:1, and I am stumped on what type of rod and technique I should assign it. Any recommendations? I've thought about making it a spinnerbait reel, but I am not sure if 5.8:1 is considered slow rolling or not. Being a shore fisherman as well, making it a deep cranking rod also does not seem to be a swell option. Jig applications are out of the question, as I am picking up a Chronarch XG soon specifically for jigging.
  3. I am curious as to what you guys spool your Calcuttas up with. I have a 200GTB I have spooled up with 30lb PowerPro braid, a 100GT TE with some cheap 10lb mono on, and I have a Calcutta Conquest 50 in the shop, but not currently spooled. What do you guys prefer? Do you ever spool Your Calcuttas with Fluorocarbon? I was considering throwing some Sunline Fluoro on the 50 when I she comes back.
  4. About 6 months ago, I lucked out on the purchase of a Calcutta 100GT TE for cheap at a local pawn shop. Covered in dirt and grime, I spent an extensive amount of time cleaning it up and making her look pretty. Took her fishing with no real problems, until I hooked into a few smallies and the drag began to act up on me. When I had enough time, I opened her up and sure enough, the drag washers were toast (practically glued to the Drive Gear) and the Drive gear was corroded to heck. Replacement parts just got in, so here it a comparison. Retrieve wasn't all that bad feeling however. Maybe when I drop this new one in, it will feel even better. Fixing her up tonight, i'll keep you all posted.
  5. I have recently purchased a Shimano Calcutta conquest from Japan. Reel works almost perfect, but has one major issue. The handle has some back play, and the spool moves when doing so. Please excuse my commentary this was sent to the seller of the reel in Japan. I am not an expert so I may sound like an idiot. Any Idea what it could be? I suspect something to do with the roller bearing? There are still parts for these available on Plat.co so any expert advice would be greatly appreciated! I hope i can get this fixed before spring rolls around.
  6. Why is the drag on my Calcutta 201B so loose even after I tighten the star drag all the way?
  7. I took apart my CTE-400 to change the left side plate, and the Click Switch Cam (part #BTN2721) and Click Switch Spring (part #BTN2723) popped out, and I'm not too sure how it goes back together. Can someone post a tutorial on how to reassemble it? Also, how does the Cam Backing Plate (part #BTN2688) sit? Is it necessary?
  8. I need some advice from someone who has experience with Shimano reels. What's the main difference between the Shimano Calcutta 400TE and the Shimano Calcutta 400B? Other than the clicker, is there a real difference between the two? Do they both have the same gearing? The same bearings?
  9. Hey guys, I've been seriously thinking about trying out Muskie fishing over the last couple months, but have been waiting to figure out what kind of gear to get. Cabela's recently had their Tourney Trail casting reels on sale for $32.99, so I ordered a heavy rod since it was such a good deal. Here are the rod specs: Length: 7'6" Power: Heavy Action: Fast Lure Weight: 1-3 oz Lb Test: 17-40 Now, Ive been looking into several options for a reel. I'm wanting a reel that I can use for musky, but I would also like to use it for something like Striper fishing or pier fishing at the beach (If that is possible with this setup). I'm looking for a reel in the $100 price range, so I've mostly been looking at the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur C4 6600, but I have also looked at the Shimano Cardiff 400A or the Shimano Corvalus. Given my intetions for musky/ occasional saltwater fishing, which reel would you guys recommend me look into getting? Thanks! Dillon
  10. Hello all, I am thinking about getting a Shimano Calcutta 250 baitcaster reel. Im thinking about getting into musky fishing, and I thought it would be a good reel for it. The guy said he bought it new a year ago and used it 6 or 7 times. He offered it to me for $50 which is a steal. However, I havent been able to find any information or reviews on the reel, and was wondering if someone could give me some insight as to whether this is what I need for musky... even though this is a bass site.. Thanks! Dillon
