  1. Hey BR, Quick video on how I store and spool spare fishing line in my boat. Thanks, James N
  2. Hi all, I'm pretty new to fishing. My daughter has a lite rod/reel that's not recommended to exceed 6 lb test line. I'd bought some 10 lb braid before thinking about this. She's got 4 lb test on it but bass and catfish keep snapping the line. My question is, is it stupid to exceeded recommended lb test line? Also, will braided line screw up the fishing pole? Thanks
  3. When I try to spool braided line on my spinning reel, I attach line to my reel; lay spool of line on floor with proper side up to prevent line twist; and slowly start to reel line onto my spinning reel. The problem I encounter is that the braided line doesn't "spill" off its spool easily (monofilament does). As a result, I have to apply some pressure to get the braid to come off the spool it comes in. When I do that, the spool of braid skitters across the floor, flips over to wrong side, etc. I've tried holding the spool of new braided line down with my feet while reeling it on but that doesn't work either because unless the spool moves freely, the braided line doesn't come off. With monofilament, the whole process is easy and smooth; but with braid, I have big problems. In short, I can't spool braid onto my reel unless I allow the new braid's spool to move freely while I reel it on and then the spool of braid flips over, rolls on its side, etc.---all leading to line twist. Any solution? Thanks in advance.
  4. Do you need a leader for braided line? If not is there a time where you should use a leader like fishing topwater or cranking?
  5. For lack of better words, can someone please explain Line Capacity/Test as if you were teaching a child! I've read many posts on the subject but there's so much fisherman jargon and technical terms that I'm a tad confused. I'm new to fishing in regards to finally purchasing my own tackle, rather then just showing up to the lake/ocean and fishing with a buddy's gear. As an example, I got an amazing deal on a few highend rods and one of the reels I purchased new and nearly free, was a Chronarch 200e7. The specs on the box read: Nylon Mono / lb. (yds.) -- 8(180) • 10(155) • 14(110) PowerPro Braided -- 30(190) • 50(120) • 65(80) Nylon Mono -- 8(180) • 10(155) • 14(110) Fil Tresse PowerPro -- 30(190) • 50(120) • 65(80) Lol, I'm so confused! Help, please! I'm looking to purchase a Mono, Braided, and Fluorocarbon Line but I don't know what I'm suppose to purchase for this particular reel or the others for that matter.
  6. do i really need a transparent leader with my braided line? I'm not great at knots and therefore i worry
  7. Hi, this may sound like a dumb question, but when throwing swimbaits on braid with a mono leader do you need to adjust the way you cast? I was recently fishing with an S-waver 168 on 50lb braid with a 15lb fluorocarbon leader and I made a cast and my leader snapped and my S-waver went flying across the lake . I used a double uni knot to connect my leader to the braid and my line was not nicked or anything. Did I just use the wrong knot? Any info on what I did wrong would be very helpful. Thanks
  8. This spring I purchased some Berkley original moss green fireline in 20 pound test. I realize it was not new even though it was an unopened package because Berkley stopped making this several years ago. So what I bought had been sitting on somebody's shelf for a couple of years. When using the line I noticed right off that I had lost some casting distance compared to some I had purchased when it was manufactured and was still on the reel. My reels are all Pinnacles and they are excellent reels. So I know the reel was not the problem. Has anyone noticed if this particular Berkley line becomes sticky if it is not used within a certain amount of time after manufacture? Do all braid lines become sticky is they stay in their original package for a couple of years? It think it is the only reason I lost casting distance. If you've had a similar experience with this or any other braid please let me know. Thanks, Fred
  9. Monofilament- Pros- invisible to fish, clear Cons- stretches, less feel than braid, heavy lb tests tend to be thick, must be ripped when caught in a snag, not strong enough to break out of a snag Braid Pros- no stretch, great feel, thin diameter in heavy lb tests, strong enough to pull out of snags Cons- not clear, often green or other natural colors, possibly seen by fish easier. The question- Do bass see braided line and decide not to strike due to the braided line? Or does the visibility of the line make no difference for the fish. My opinion- I prefer braid because of its strength and ability to get out of snags easily. It also has great feel and a lot can fit on the spool. My only issue is the visibility of the line. I fish both clear and murky waters. I know it would make sense to use my braid setup for murky waters and mono setup for clear waters; but, even in clear waters there are snags and i still want my 20lb braid strength rather than 12 or 8 lb mono. 20 lb mono is way too thick and heavy and i would never use that, plus it stretches and lacks feel. What's your opinion? Looking for input, Thanks! Also i have considered flurocarbon but its very expensive, so i stick away from that option.
  10. I bought some suffix 832 30 lbs test to put on my quantum smoke bait caster. 1st time on the lake it cast like a charm, i even trolled around the lake to get the "green off my line" that day it was amazing. fast forward to yesterday. birds nest, birds nest, birds nest, and birds nest. i ended up putting reel down for the day can u tell me what can i do ? or what do i need to do??? thanks !!
  11. Hello, Will be trying out braided line for the first time this season. Have never used before. Will be PowerPro line on a Spinning Reel. Freshwater only. Pond and stream fishing for Panfish and small Bass, mainly. Have a few questions, please: a. All the posts and Forums say to wind it on very tightly to prevent its digging in thru the turns below it and causing all sorts of problems and tangles. Makes sense. But, the very first time you cast the line, all the "inital tightness" is gone. After this cast, the tightness or tension on retrieving will be dertmined Solely by what's on the end of the line (hopefully a fish). All this very tight initial winding will be gone. Thoughts ? b. With mono, having the wind direction on the reel the same as how it comes off of the spool is important. e.g., cw off the spool for bails turning cw on the reel. Is this also important for Braid ? I ask, because there is nothing on the PowerPro box, or on their site, that even discusses this. The Power Pro Box says to keep spool in box when spooling, so you wouldn't even know which direction it's coming off of ! Is it that there is essentially no-memory for braid, and hence not important ? Still (very) important to do ? Or,...? c. The Spectra braid (Moss Green) is certainly a lot more visible than clear mono. Do you folks use a clear mono leader ? Or, for small Pond and stream fishing for Panfish and small Bass, the extra visibility hardly matters at all in practice ? BTW: just curious: folks still use mono, mainly ? Thanks for help, Bob
