  1. Hi I don't own a boat, so rent one every weekend. A nice 14 Jon with tolling motor for $36. Obviously there's a limit to the amount of equipment I can add to a rental (they probably wouldn't like me drilling holes ;)). I wanted a depth gauge and fish finder, then I found the Garmin throwable on Amazon. It cost me a $120 for the non GPS version, after using it once I got to say it's pretty awesome. It has a cellphone phone app and connects via Bluetooth. I used a pinch clamp and the provided lanyard it secure it to the boat. Which worked well. The a battery was down about to half after 5 hours fishing, so it should last all Day. Knowing the depth made a huge difference and set me up to catch my largest fish of the year (24" chain pickerel). The unit is supposed to be castable, I just dump it over the side. Anyway finally a sonar for non boat owners Pic are a stock photo and a screenshot of the app working on my
  2. Hi, my name is Brooks. I've enjoyed fishing here and there most my life but decided on bass fishing as a hobby about six months ago. I live in MO and fish little ponds around the Eastern part of the state. My fiance and I are near Kentucky Lake this weekend and want to rent a Jon boat to fish. There are so many options I have no idea which to choose and where to fish and would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks!
  3. Hey all... Me and a friend are planning a trip down to Florida to fish okeechobee for a few days. Looking for a good place to rent a "Real" Bass boat. I have looked at Roland Martins place and it looks to fit the bill. I just want to know if they are the only game in town. I take a trip like this every year and finding good place to rent a quality boat is always the hardest part.
  4. Hi, Newbie here. Looks like a great site. We are considering going to Okeechobee and I am finding it hard to believe that I can't rent a boat for a week and dock it at my rental house. I really don't want to have to get off of the lake every day at 4:30 and unload all of our gear everyday, which is what the three main rental places seem to demand. Anybody ever find a place to rent one where you can actually keep it for the week? Or how about at least renting a cabin or something right at the boat rental place? Thanks in advance! Rocky
  5. Hey! My name is Julien, I am currently looking for a vacation spot in the U.S. in order to go bass fishing. As you probably know, bass fishing can be very expensive when you don't know where to look / don't have a boat, and this is basicaly where I am at right now. First of all, I am looking for a vacation from 1st of april to the 8th of april aproximatly, I might get to my location by car or plane, depending on what is available. (I can't move these dates) I need to know where to find the information on what is legal/illegal for fishing in various states, and if I need a special permit since I am canadian, is there a federal site available for this? I do not have a boat, I don't necesserely want to rent a bass boat or a great boat, I simply need something to go aroud on the water, see me as a "back-pack" fisherman. Everything I have looked at thus far from lake okachobee to georgia's small lakes is quite overpriced (from my point of view). I am looking for something that can go under 1,5k for a week (including plane/car trip), the less expensive / quality the better, including lodging, eating. If the location offers a bit of villegiature or other activities, they are a plus but not a must, as I will be going alone. Now this might be unorthodox, but if some one would be ready to recieve me at their home, it might end up being alot less expensive. I am 25 year old, I am a guy, I am an auditor at an accounting firm and I can gladly send my Curriculum and some information that will let you verify this, you can feel very secure that this isn't any form of scam and I am ready to go lenghty ways in order to prove that I am in fact honest and not dangerous, of course this would have to go both ways to some extent. This is basicaly where I stand, I find it hard to find information on the internet with the ongroing advertisments. Any type of point of view, on where to go, how to do it etc... are welcome, I am not acustom to the U.S. waters. I will glady give french courses to any one who helps me or recieves me! Also, if any one wants information on Quebec fishing, from bass/trout to musky/pike I will gladly help, we have great ice fishing location in the winter and some of the greatest musky lakes in the world for summer fishing! Hopefuly I did not transgress any forum rules! Thank you for your time and good luck fishing!
