  1. Caught on a Strike King Jig with Crawl trailer. Pumpkin seed.
  2. This past year I caught 82 bass over a pound (I’m shorebound) including my PB which was 5lb 7oz. My next biggest of the year was 3-14 followed by a few more 3’s. These numbers got me thinking, are larger bass really smarter/harder to catch, or are the just rare? It seems possible where I fish that a 5 pounder is simply a 1 out of 82 fish. (*I realize big is a relative term depending where you fish). Typically I have assumed larger bass were more difficult to catch for one of the following reasons: 1. They have learned over years of being caught and released to avoid lures (but I have heard studies show they have very little ability to reason like this). 2. Their temperament is less aggressive so they are less likely to be caught and live longer (but then it seems they would be out-competed for food). 3. They have happened to choose to inhabit areas of the lake that not fished as often (seems to only apply for bank fishing). On the other hand, if large fish are just rare, not harder to catch, why are they more vulnerable in the pre-spawn and fall when they feeding drive is heightened, and less likely to be caught other times of the year like smaller bass?
  3. Had an awesome day out on the water today! Scored myself 40 fish with a 5lb 5oz kicker to top it all off. She didn't appear to be full of eggs so I'm thinking maybe postspawn? Caught her on a Jig in a submerged tree in about 10 - 15ft of water. Very pretty fish, gave me a short workout ?.
  4. New PB and the first bass I've caught to break into the 8lb range. She weighed on the digital scale right at 8lbs 0oz. Super stoked to catch a fish this big, looking forward to more and bigger ones in the future ?. Figured I'd post her here to document the catch. Goodluck out there ya'll, go catch some bigguns!
  5. Hello All, I've recently joined the Forum after regularly reading up on the many questions others have had about the sport for about a year. Im still a novice when it comes to bass fishing, I started August of 2019, and I'd love to get more involved with this wonderful community. Very soon here I am going to buy a Fishing Kayak (waiting for the one I want to be in-stock) which should open up many new ponds and small lakes to try out here in Cali. Most of these ponds and small lakes are off the beaten path and almost impossible to fish from the bank, only accessible by kayak, but im able to scout the terrain and get a basic idea of the what waterbodies layout is. I am in love with hooking into big fish and I was wondering what the tell tale signs are for a waterbody to have big largemouth bass? So far I suspect deep water to be essential as well as water with decent water clarity, but im not entirely sure. What type of cover or structure should I keep an eye out for when I scout these waterbodies by foot? I can count all the 4lb+ bass ive ever caught on basically 2 hands so my experince with big fish is fairly limited. I have some general ideas of what to lookout for but I'd love to hear from you experienced guys out there. So far the Two water bodies I've scouted have a ton of standing timbre or have their banks covered with water primrose, water visibility both have about 2ft or so. Seen baitfish creating small wakes on waters surface and saw many old bluegill spawning beds so atleast there are fish hahaha. Any tips on finding some Hawgs? Thanks!
  6. Was think about what historically produces better than average quality fish and in my opinion these are the Top 3 "traditional" baits that consistently produce better than average fish during the pre spawn period. Thanks for watching!

    My biggest bass ever.
  8. So, I've been getting into fishing big swimbaits for the biggest bass in the lake, and I've been somewhat successful so far. I've caught A handful of nice fish from 5-7lbs on various glide baits so far. I have 8 inch hudds, I have a 9 inch slammer, I have lunker punkers, bull shads, a triple trout, Deps 250, Gantarel (none of which I've caught a fish on yet) and some of the other more popular big swimbaits on the market, and I'm looking to add the next glide bait to the lineup. My favorite big swimbaits so far are glide baits and multi jointed hard baits, so if anyone has any suggestions in those two categories, feel free to share, but for those of you who have tried them, which would be the better buy between the Roman Made Negotiator, and the Megabass I-Slide 262? I've been eyeing both for awhile, but I want to hear from guys who have actually fished these lures before pulling the trigger on another $100+ glide. Is the negotiator worth the extra money over the I-slide? Also, if anyone has tried the ABT suicide glide, how does it compare to the Megabass?
  9. Hey Guys, I read a very interesting article on a technique called Junk Fishing in Bass Angler Magazine. It's where you hit your prime spots, start with some search baits like a square bill and a chatterbait then dial in the big ones with a jig. The idea is to move fast and the article is spot on to how I fish. So, Who junk fishes? And What are your 3 picks? Mine: 1.) Strike King Squarebill 1.5 Sexy Chart or Craw (Water Clarity) 2.) Zman Jackhammer White Chart or Black/ Blue 3.) Some Strike king jigs or Seibert's Jigs
  10. My dad and I went out with just a couple jigs and that's it! It's not often I can say I bested him, but I did. Maybe it's a sign of things to come. I caught this 5+ .. and one other 4+.
  11. I've been meaning to post this. I was down on Falcon Lake, TX a few weeks ago when I got this 11.38 lb. bass. Caught on 10" worm, half-ounce tungsten weight, 25-pound flouro. line. Fishing in 28 FOW. My new personal best.
  12. Has anyone taken advantage of the early ice here in Maine to catch some bass through the hardwater? Where at?
  13. How should I go about catching a big bass in a small 1 1/2 acre pond in Ohio around mid October The biggest bass are usually caught on 5 inch senkos wacky rigged or Texas rig should I use the same thing as I would catch them in the summer or should I use faster moving baits
  14. I just found out a bout a pond that has ultra clear water . It has a deep drop offs on the edges of the pond the pond bottom is very rocky and has a few fallen down trees as lay downs . If you could fish there what would you throw it it currently Mid October in the mid west . What would you throw ?
  15. recently I obtained a St. Croix Triumph surf rod for an upcoming fishing trip to the bahamas. while testing it out with a weight in my back yard an idea came to me; why not start using surf tackle in place of our conventional bass tackle? after all it can cast farther and by extent cover more water, and the added rod length means more line control. so what are your thoughts on this? has anyone tried this before?
  16. Just wondering whats some good baits for fall fishing and when exactly does fall fishing start. im from ky if that helps with region and stuff
  17. From the album: ERIC'S BIGGEST

  21. I've been waiting to pull the trigger on this one, very expensive for my taste. Running at 20-25 dollars I'm hesitant, so I was wondering if anybody else had as much luck as this guy? if you did what time was it? How did you retrieve? Looks awesome like it could draw up fish. Love the colors.
