  1. Hi Everyone, I’ve read some of the posts on here and I’d be interested in getting a bass boat in the next few years. Starting to gather info about it now so that I’m ready by the time I decide to pull the trigger. I’m not looking for somethings super fancy with all the bells and whistles. Just something to get me started on the water by myself with the basics and that I can customize with electronics down the road. Would like to stick with the boat for a while so quality and durability matter. Here’s some other info that might help with suggestions: - I tournament fish as a co-angler a good amount throughout the year mainly in WI and IL lakes/rivers. - Would be nice to be able to use my boat in tournaments eventually once I build up enough experience fishing as a co-angler - Bodies of water I fish are anywhere around 2,000 to 10,000 acres. Size is relative but I’d say they’re smaller to medium-sized natural lakes. Not like I’m fishing the great lakes but would be nice if it could handle the crazy pleasure boater wakes since it’s tight quarters at times. - Need to fit myself and another person comfortably while we’re fishing. - Nothing super big but preferably not tiny either. I have a small SUV that I’m sticking with for a while so would probably need to get a hitch installed. Let me know if there’s any other info that might help give suggestions. Again, I’m not in a hurry to get a boat. Just seeing my options for the near future! Appreciate any advice! Umair
  2. I've been bass fishing for the past 4 years and only fish smaller lakes and ponds from the bank. I've always wanted to throw big swimbaits but didn't really know if it was worth it or where to start.

Hey everyone. My names Glenn. I’ve been fishing for about 12 years. Most my fishing has been done in Ireland. Usually using a quiver tip, feeder or float rig for mainly carp, trout, perch and some smaller lake and river fish such as Rudd. Never fished predators like pike. Fishing in America is new for me. I live in California. I’ve been out to lakes a few times caught some crappie, blue gill and some small catfish. I would like to get into bass fishing. I’ve been watching a lot of videos on what to use and what not to use. And I really have no idea weather to pick up a bait caster or a spinning rig? There’s so much back and fourth. I’m not looking to land a trophy right off the bat. I’m looking to catch some bass no matter what size and learn the proper techniques and go from there. If you could lend some info that would be great. Also if anyone has any advice on Southern California bass fishing. I heard pyramid lake for fall so far. thanks guys
  4. I’ve got a tournament coming this saturday, and I’m not hitting on anything guys. Super clear for the lake 4-6 feet. Temps in lower 70s. Fish in early post spawn. Lake is called Lake Harding. Any advice would be appreciated.
  5. Hello folks, We, (My son and I) have been po d hoppers for a long time. We decided to buy a bass boat and take it to the lakes of N.C. We learned we didnt know what it takes to find bass in the lakes we've fished so far. What would work in the various ponds we fished, doesn't necessarily apply. We will be hitting Badin in a week or two and was hoping to get some advise as to where to start, what type of bait we should be throwing. Right now I've been trying the carolina rig and a black zoom trick worm. Also threw the power bait red shad some.
  6. I have a 36v MinnKota Maxxum. 3 12v batteries ran in a series being charged by a MinnKota MK3150D. My first issue began when I noticed a drastic loss of power in the trolling motor. I traced it back to one of the batteries. Found out it had a NEGATIVE charge. The previous owner was actually charging the battery that ended up reversing polarity on a separate single bank charger and had the cranking battery in a series with 2 of the TM batteries. I thought the single bank charger went bad(I was told by the guy at the battery store) and fried my battery. I replaced the battery and was fine for a couple months(probably one or two outings) until the battery I just replaced reversed polarity like the last one and also fried another battery in the series(it's reading 170v.) PLEASE HELP! I can't afford to pay for diagnostics. I'm thinking that I had a bad connection between these two batteries in the series. Would that cause them to do this? Does how I have them hooked up to the charger interfere with them running in a series? Also found this junk wired between the 2 batteries in question under shrink wrap. My current plan is to replace all 3 batteries and all cables/connections but my boat is basically useless until I can afford to do this. Thank you for your help.
  7. Thanks in advance for the help, and my apologies for being such a beginner. I have started seriously fishing for the first time this year and purchased a spinning reel as I have always had that style. My buddy got his license, and needed a rod. He said he wanted a close faced spincast style reel. I purchased him a Zebco, and took him out to a open pond. We spent about an hour and a half fishing, and TWICE the line twist around the bolt that keeps the top of the reel, not the cover, on. The cover had to be removed, then the metal inside cover had to be unscrewed. The line had to be untwisted from around the bolt in middle of the reel, or cut. Brand new reel, happened twice. Looking for some guidance on why this happened and how to avoid it. PS lucky **** caught 2 fish despite the issues. Lol David
  8. Hello. Im looking for a new fishing pole to buy since my old one basically fell apart on me. I have about 4 ponds on my property that all have nice bass in them and a river that runs through the property as well with stocked trout in it. I used to go fishing as a kid long ago and a couple days ago I decided to go out myself and see if I could catch something since I havent done it in years. I got some casts out of it and caught 2 small bass then the pole crapped the bed because it so d**n old (probably 10 years old). Those 2 fish were enough to get me hooked (haha) on fishing again and Id like to get into it but I have no rod! If someone could link me some information about this stuff and possibly links to poles I can buy that'd be great. Thanks.
  9. Hey everyone! I have been fascinated by bass fishing for most of my life but always I hesitated and felt overwhelmed by it all. I finally took the plunge and subscribed to many beginner bass YouTube channels and put together a decent 150$-200$ or so set of lures, lines, tackle, baits, and 2 rod & spinning reels to start off with. I have lived in Broward County Florida for 5 years now and have prepped to go on my first LMB all day fishing trip at Markham tomorrow and Sunday, maybe even hop around the 75N canals and even Holiday if I have time over the weekend. I have a 6'6 Medium Ugly Stick and another older Medium 6'6 rod that was my grandpa's - the Ugly Stick has 15# flouro leader to 12# mono and my grandpa's is 8# mono to a 15# flouro leader. (I am saving up to get a 7'0 medium heavy ASAP). I'm starting with a 3/8oz Colorado style spinnerbait first but I included a screen shot of my list of stuff I have and am bringing with me. I have a willow spinnerbait, swim jigs and trailers, hollow body craws, green pumpkin and black senkos 5" etc. (I have everything on the list aside from the top water bait, the buzz bait, ribbon tail worm and chatter bait). I practiced uni/double uni knots, the palomor knot, and the improved clinch knot. I would be so grateful to hear some good tips , advice, local spots and anything else you guys can offer a total newbie like me before my first weekend. Also if theres any beginner clubs or meets willing to guide a 29 yr bass beginner like me that would be great too! - Nick
  10. I got into bass fishing last summer and didn't have a lot of good tackle specifically for bass fishing. I know there's jigs, crankbaits, spinners, and topwater lures, but what are some specific lures to get to have some success on the water this year?
  11. I grew up fishing my whole life but have recently been trying to taper towards bass fishing and get more serious about it. I am wondering where i could find some solid information on what lures to fish in what climate (central Minnesota) where on the lake to fish lures and rigs, stuff like that, anything helps, just trying to expand my knowledge.
  12. I'm pretty sure this has been asked before but I did not see the post. Let's say today is your first day ever fishing, you have a baitcaster and a spinning set up. You are going to a local pond and will be bank fishing. What do you use? Last two two years sucked for me, no time to fish and when I did, not a lot of success. Im hitting the reset button and dedicating myself to get out more often. Ive seen Roadwarriors post on fishing the Senko and Fat Ika, and did not have much success but am going to go at it again. If you were bringing someone out for the first time using lures what would you use to insure so success?
  13. So, while I have fallen victim to my share of broken lines and lost lures, I often wonder whether or not I’m pairing my line with the right tackle; obviously not! In my search for answers, very specific answers at that, I’ve come across what seems to have been the most thorough and yet efficient article on ‘bassfishin’ website titled fishing-line-guide [I couldn’t add link for some reason]. I mean, yes!!! Finally, a very detailed article, but... wow! I couldn’t help but feeling like my three rod, three reel arsenal will get me no where. I realize that there ideal setups per technique or presentation but where’s the middle of the road? How can I make the most out of a reel without having to switch out the line with each lure change? For example, if one of my rod and reel combos can work many techniques and handle (obviously) the weight of many lures but technically based on the article requires a different line for each, how do I get around having to switch out the line? Does anyone have better recommendations? I fish (freshwater) with monofilament because I’m fairly new to fishing and that’s what’s always recommended to me. My current reels and rods are as follows: G.Loomis Mag Bass 782c 6’6” Med Fast Mag Bass 844c 7’ Heavy Fast Crankbait 864C DF 7’2” Med-Heavy Mod Shimano Chronarch 200E7 7.0:1 Curado K 6.2:1 & 8.5:1
  14. I am a relatively new fisherman and love the information on this forum. Unfortunately, i'm also a broke a** college student and need to upgrade from my 10 year old $25 combo. I'm looking for a solid MHF 7-7'2 rod ( needs to be good for all around fishing, which is why i picked this), for under $80. I would prefer a solid $40-$60 rod, but if its a great deal will consider up to 80, so please refrain from the "spend $20 more and get a ..." as i really don't have the cash.. Also looking for a quality reel, same range. Any sales on nice equipment would be VITAL (and preferred), or any combos that offer a solid deal on rod and reel as well. I just missed out on a $60 sellus and sedona combo at dicks and am very ticked, so that is pretty much my standard for deals, I figured someon on here can help me find where the major deals are. Thanks guys, happy fishing
  15. While I'm interested in hearing about your ideal setups, what I'm really looking for (something I can't seem to find) is some type of chart or list that details each rod with their actions, and the techniques that should be applied. Ex: Heavy Fast Rod works best for Frogging but can also be great for ______. Heavy Moderate..... ...and so forth and so on. Reason being, I have several new rods that I'd like to obviously use properly as well as assure myself that any future additions will be necessary--efficiency. ***Thanks for your input.
  16. I have been into bass fishing for years now but have always felt a little clueless as to what I am doing. While I have all the baits and a decent rod setup ( spinning) and have caught a few fish, I still feel lost. Where I fish there are several ponds near my local river and I see people down there dressed like a ninja with a backpack on, mask, 2 or 3 rods, and can't help but think they are successful. I'm not looking to go catch 8 fish in day but rather feel confident in my method. I often fish with a jig and trailer, my favorite, or a Texas rigged senko or a crawfish. When fishing weightless especially, since I can't feel the bottom, I feel especially clueless as how to fish it. The ponds I go to have heavy cover ( about 10 feet away from shore made up of small trees) and I snag so much on them that I feel like quitting. d**n shame losing 5 bucks every time a jig gets hung up. While I do fish from a kayak, most of the time it is from the shore. When my rig is in he water , I always just slowly work it back to shore by dragging it with a raise of the rod tip. I often see people working much quicker to get their lure back to shore. Thanks for your help, just need advice to help feel confident fishing my setup and fishing a rig properly.
  17. So I new to bass fishing, started last September, and I'm trying to find my "groove". I had some success with a weightless senko during the pre spawn but now am only catching maybe one fish a trip. I thought that I should master three different lures for three different types of fishing, moving bait, bottom fishing and finesse. My thought is the chatterbait, Texas rigged senko and dropshot. Any ideas if those are good techniques to start with or suggestions are welcomed.
  18. I know there are a lot of different fishing techniques, rigs, baits, ect and all suit different conditions however, as a beginner fisherman is best to focus on just a couple techniques or rigs and get really comfortable fishing those as opposed trying your hand at a bunch of different ones even if you are trying to match the conditions? It can be very confusing, not to mention expensive for a new fisherman.
  19. Hello all, I'm a fairly inexperienced fisherman and I'm about to make the road trip down from Vermont to Arkansas to camp on the shores of Lake Ouachita (Big Fir campground on the west shore, if it's of any relevance) in December and I keep reading that the bass fishing there is wonderful. Now I've fished before and I've caught a few bass but I've never done anything remotely specific to try to alter my fishing; I just slap a bobber and a hook on the line and throw on either a plastic or live worm. Do you have any suggestions to improve a bass fishing experience in that particular area of the country or any tips in general that will help me catch fish? Thanks in advance!
  20. Hello! I am brand new to the forum. I grew up in Northern California, and did a fair amount of bass fishing with my dad. Now, I am fishing without my dad, and realizing I have a lot to learn! I just got a new 6'6 Fenwick medium-fast rod (I really wanted a 2-piece, 7' med-heavy, but the 2piece was hard to find at my price point) and an Abu Garcia Pro Max 7.1:1 baitcaster. I got this because I was using an old setup from my dad that really needed replacing. I also recently got the Daiwa Revros spinning combo. My friend I fish with a lot asked me "what are you trying to use it for?" regarding the baitcaster, and I felt stupid when I said I wasn't sure. So, my question is what is this setup best for? What will give me the most "bang for the buck" if you will. I just don't want to be trying casting stuff with it that it isn't really meant for. For example, is it best for worms, jerbaits, finesse etc etc. Any and all help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  21. A friend of mine is getting into bass fishing. What would the best baitcasting combo for him to learn on that would cost around $100 or less? I know you generally get what you pay for with baitcasters but wondering if there was a good combo out there that would be good for a beginner, or even getting rod/reel separately that wouldn't break the bank?
  22. I think I worded this title wrong, I'm not a beginner fisherman but I am a beginner to the drop shot. I'd like some pointers to help. Is a heavy weight better to keep it on the bottom? What's a good distance from the weight? Can I fish ANY soft plastics or should I stick with worms? I ask that last question because a lot of my Missouri/Ozark success is due to YUM Craws first and Senkos second (typically T-rigged). What size hook is appropriate? Have you had better luck weedless rigging the hook or simply hooking it in the head? Is there anything against rigging two hooks? Have I posted too many questions? I've researched it on the internet quite a bit today (probably should be working) but I have too many specific questions that weren't being answered properly, so I'm here now.
  23. Since Christmas is coming soon and I need to start formulating the list for the 'rents, what gear would you recommend for a beginning bass angler? I have a $150 limit for a rod and reel, and then anywhere between $100-$200 more for the rest. As well as lures, what kind of line, tools, tackle boxes/bags, terminal tackle, etc would y'all deem necessary to have for someone just starting out?
  24. Im going to join my school bass club soon, and I'd like to get an idea for what rod setups I might need. I have a low budget, as any highschool student, and I can only afford two rod/reel combos of mid quality. Any recommendations would be great. Goal: < $250
  25. I am 17 years old and am really starting to get into bass fishing. I have been a bass fisherman for a few years now but only recently have I begun to take it more seriously. By doing so I have begun purchasing more and more baits/lures, terminal tackle, and just overall better supplies for fishing. I like majority of the anglers in the world have started fishing with spinning gear. But recently I was hanging out with a buddy of mine who fishes local tourneys and what not and he strictly uses only Baitcasters. And after a nice long day on the water I began to see why. I tried it out and as you could imagine I enjoyed his Abu Garcia Veritas setup he had going. I am again extremely interested and excited to further my bass fishing, and to start off on the right track I am looking for a very solid setup rod/reel wise. I know for a fact I want the Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 rod, simply because I loved my friends original one, and I have only heard better things with the 2.0. However As far as reels go, I am not exactly sure what brand s are good, which are bad, or which are overpriced, etc. So my question for the Bass Resource community is: "What would you suggest as far as a reel goes for a beginner baitcaster-er. I am looking for something that good but at the same time newb friendly. By that I mean I want it to last a while, not put me in debt, and can take a fair amount of abuse while I go through the learning process of getting better with it." And all help is greatly appreciated.
